You're back around Cleveland, right? I'm sure you can feel the difference between 90 in Clevo and 90 in So Cal. 90 in the Rust Belt (or the south) can feel pretty damn hot.

This is my problem, I'm willing to bet. I also hate the "30-second rule," but I only ever come up against it on match days.

I think the most we can take from this is that Joel may not as poor as many believe he is and that we will only know how good Pickford can be if he has a chance to play for a good team (or, alternatively, if he had a few more seasons under his belt, giving us a larger sample size).

£30m (or whatever) is a big risk. I just hope that our scouting system has analyzed the shit out of Pickford's limited tapes to identify his good qualities and which things he will need to improve. Hopefully, we are going about this smartly and have a clear idea of how to make him into a keeper worthy of the price tag.

I'd go ahead and replace him while playing hardball, saying he's under contract for two years, and holding out for more.

I know that we won't handle it like that. But, it's been clear that he thinks he can do better than Everton. I don't blame him. It isn't that I don't think the world of Everton. I just think, because Lukaku has been nailed on as the next big thing since he was a child, he's had it in his head that he's destined for greatness on the world stage. He doesn't work as hard as he should. He doesn't seem to worry about the rest of the team. I don't think he's one for long-term projects. He wants to win. He wants to score. And, he wants glory. I think the biggest problem with Lukaku is that he believes he deserves these things. And, so he goes about achieving them very cheaply.

You're right. Those are the facts. The rumors enter in with your interpretation of the facts. When you answer the question "why hasn't Barkley signed the contract?" with anything other than "I don't know, because all I know is that he's been offered one and hasn't signed it," then you're offering conjecture, not fact.

Mark, the fact of the matter is that we have nothing but rumors to go on. Attributing blame to Koeman, Barkley, the board or Barkley's agent, at this point in time, is a consequence of which rumors you choose to believe and which ones you dismiss as nonsense. We have no clue of the complexity (or potential lack thereof) of these negotiations. Speculate if you must. But, don't pretend that you know what's going on behind closed doors.

Quick thinker, fast, makes great runs, puts himself in great positions, can finish anything you give him, very young and will only improve.... I don't know.

JoeQuince got a reaction from Sibdane in The case for performance-based contracts
There has to be a solid wage floor, at the very least. This could create new problems, too. There are eleven players on the field at any given time. How much of each player's performance is down to them, at an individual level? How does one measure the performance of players in positions that don't create a lot of statistics? How does this guarantee better overall team play and not create individualistic divisions within the team? Team-based performance incentives might be better. But, this could create new tensions in the locker room and could place managers into an even trickier position vis-a-vis players and place them under even more scrutiny than they are already under.

I think the best thing would be for football to regulate agents and the perverse incentive structure they have. So much of what goes on has to do with agents trying to cash in and make huge profits off of player sales. It keeps players' heads turned and sucks up so much overhead cost from clubs and players alike. Something could be done about this.

Coleman is already back with the club and doing whatever fitness training he can. He will work his way back to his old self, I think. I can't imagine this being the nail in the coffin for him.

    Early crosses work well, too.

Basically, anything that keeps the bus from getting parked in the first place is what you need. If we don't have the tricky player who can dink little balls over the top, we need wingers to run up the touch line and put balls in the box. Or, we overload them up top and hope they don't get us on the counter.
