Some people seem to think all red cards are a three game ban. It's a bit like the question about qualifying for Europe that comes up every season, and we know how much you love that one . Fortunately, there'll be no reason for that question on here this season!

Gwlad got a reaction from rubecula in Has Martinez got it wrong?
I get the impression he's now out of his depth and a lot of the backroom staff he's brought in are too. All season we never seem to get anything from set pieces so what exactly do they do at Finch Farm? Seriously angry now as looks like club morale has been destroyed, players don't look as together as in previous seasons.

We need to give own goal an improved contract, he's our most consistent scorer every year.

Did anyone see that superb tactic that Leicester were using today?

When they had the ball they ran with it and when they passed they moved forward , think maybe Bobby could nick that strategy for the next game

I don't k now what it is with Baines but he doesn't look like he likes playing football. We had the same with hinchcliffe. He said it was a job but didn't enjoy playing near the end.

You said after Thursday display you're let down by this. Well the team is not playing to win, Leicester is playing for a draw meaning they are sitting back. You can see this I hope. Young boys attack so did Wolfsburg, Lille, they want to win games. Leicester doesn't, they came to goodison to park the bus and pray for a draw. Completely different game and tactics, you can't have the same Thursday display agaisnt 11 men behind the ball. I know you know this and are just pissed off we aren't winning, I'm just tired of hearing everyone bitch about we can't play in the premier league. We can, we just play shit teams who use 1904 tactics and play not to lose.

Gwlad reacted to StevO in Ross Barkley
I've stayed away from this topic purposely as I'm expecting to be pissed off if I read it so I won't. But I've got to say the treatment Ross has received at Goodison in the last few months has been disgraceful. We have a hell of a talent on our hands here, one that bigger clubs would gladly take of our hands, but if he doesn't put one in the top bin or take on five players everytime he gets the ball he's getting grief. Seeing him being booed by his own fans for not being as good as we would like him too be has made me sick, and has not helped his confidence. I see a young lad who looks scared to try something because he is scared of the reaction when if it goes wrong.

I heard a fella infront of me who has given him nothing but abuse for months complaining that he has been on the bench recently. I couldn't believe it.

I know one thing for sure, when he speaks to his agent about the stick he has had from the fans his agent will be telling him he won't get booed at City!

    Rant over, for now.

Gwlad reacted to Romey 1878 in Luke Garbutt to Liverpool
Oviedo and Garbutt are much younger, Baines is coming towards the end of his career now - I don't see him going on to still be playing at 34/35. So it makes sense to plan for the future - i.e. look more towards Garbutt and Oviedo. Far too often we, as fans, still think of players being the player they were 4 or 5 years ago and think we should keep players based on that. Cahill was a perfect example of that. I suppose it's a bit of sentimentality. I have none of that so I'd let players go, or relegate them to back-up, without a second thought. I'm cold-hearted .

Look lads - we need to kick their FUCKING ARSES! We need to win this game and wipe that smartass arrogant grin right off of Mourinho's face. What a cocky prick he is.

I don't care if you pray, show your arse in the frozen food aisle in Tesco to a 93-year old lady, do a rain dance in the middle of Trafalgar Fucking Square, piss on the statue of Liberty's leg, keep your dog in the basement with a cereal box on his head, go all tranny and wear a fucking pink dress and 9 inch heels , etc etc................

WHATEVER it takes! This is a call to arms and we need to unite and cheer these Blues on and spank (the other) Blues!!

As soon as we manage to drag ourselves out of this relegation scrap our season will be over anyway so it may be a blessing in disguise. We will have nothing to play for so he may as well blood the kids and start preparing for next season ( which would be in stark contrast to the total lack of preparation we had for this season!)

Cheers for my first game at Goodison Park today! I haven't been active because I have been in London for a month, and I finally got to go the grounds today for my first match. Just got back from Liverpool.

Impressions on the game: Joel Robles is rocky, but his kicking accuracy is much better than Howard's

    - Feels so good to have Stones back in the line-up, much better than Distin in every way. Big aerial threat, particularly on defending corners. Past mistakes have included leaving a man free on the far post for the extra cross or shot.

    - Besic is a work in progress. Very talented player, but lacks confidence at times.

    - McGeady is our weakest link. How the hell is this guy starting.

    - Lukaku is fantastic. We need to play more direct to him. Lukaku and Naismith were the only players who showed up to play 90 mins.

Impressions on my first time in Liverpool:
    - Being from the U.S., you hardly never see anyone with Everton kits, and it felt so great to be at Lime St and you just see everyone with their kits and scarves ready to go. You feel the energy and just being in Liverpool with my Everton jersey really energized the hell out of me. More importantly, I only saw one koppite.

    - Goodison Park is more beautiful that I could have expected. I really understood what people mean when they say it is a more "classical" ground.

    - The energy in the stadium was fantastic. Singing "Grand Old Team," yelling at McGeady, and shouting down Man City fans was a blast.

This is really a world class team.

Taking McCarthy out of the side should enable Martinez to see where the real problems lie - not think "ah we are missing James - it will be ok when he gets fit".

For me McCarthy has been covering too many players. Its almost as if they think "its OK, James will win that back for us".

Carsley hit the nail on the head, we need to start doing the ugly things better. Winning second balls, closing players down quicker - is that down to Martinez? Maybe its down to him to tell them to "get it sorted" but these are professional footballers who have been playing football to the highest level of their age group for 15 plus years.

Last year these players were like terriers when the opposition had the ball, now they stand back a few yards and jog around. Compare McCarthy and Naismith to all the other players in our team when the opponenst have the ball - they run "hard". They put the same effort into the running as they do when we are on a counter attack.

Am I allowed to use Naismith vs Lukaku as a comparison in this regard? Well I am. Rom is supposedly a powerful player with pace, he only does this when he has the ball in front of him. Its like getting a dog to run, throw a ball 50 yards ahead and the dog sees it and he is off like a whippet. Yet if another dog picks up the ball before him he stops spriniting and jogs over to the dog wagging his tail hoping the dog will just drop the ball for him.

The same can be said for Barkley - ball at his feet, his ears prick up, his chest puffs out and his adrenaline is surging as he looks to exploit a gap and run at goal. As soon as the opposition has it he's not thinking about winning it back for the team, he's watching McCarthy and positioning himself to recieve the pass - not good enough!!!

We need 10 outfield players who want to get that ball off the opposition. We want to make them uncomfortable. We can only do that if we get every player working the same way. Not just Besic, Mccarthy and Naismith.

Back on thread - I am still not sure what I want from this game. I know I definitely dont want a draw and a replay. I would like, I think, a spirited, up and at them, performance like the Liverpool game under big Joe when Dunc went to war for us - but who have we got to do that? Besic? Jags? Nais?

At the end of the game I want to have seen an organised team, playing effectively to a plan (a, b or c) and to leave everything out on the pitch at the final whistle. If we can win as well, that would be great.

Crazy talk. Everton is Everton, the people that pass through have transient impact; the club is constant as the fans should be, in good times and in bad.

Wonder why we used Griffiths on the bench v Newcastle (when he doesn't even have a squad number on the OS) ahead of Jindrich Stanek (who does).

Either way, can't imagine either of them could be worse options than Robles.

OK, everyone's tetchy at the moment, some see the more positive side and some the negatives but the simple fact is we are pissed off with results and our position in the league. You can't just put it down to injuries and I've no knowledge but I do wonder if some of the training contributes. There's a lack of guts on the pitch, no leadership to gee up the players when we're down, heads drop too easily. Tactics have been discussed in depth, we're transparent and it's obvious there's fault here that lies with the manager. Hull is massive now so get behind them.
