Wasn't too far off. Siggy for Beni and Sandro for Bernard.
Can someone explain why Sandro is starting when he is being loaned out tmw? Surely someone else could benefit from the 90 mins on offer.

Keane is a useless excuse of a defender. Id rather we start Williams tbh but its a bit like would I rather be kicked in the left nut or the right nut.

malcom just went to barca for 41m.  that's the same price being put forth for richarlison.  doesn't seem so bad now does it?  richarlison is proven in the prem, malcom played for bordeaux.  honestly it makes me feel a lot better about the price.

Nice breakdown Mark. I'd expect Martina to be 2nd choice LB, not that we should feel great about it.
At this stage, and knowing we will play 4-3-3, I still think we absolutely need a left back, center mid and winger. Backup keeper and center back would be nice.
Get the F*** Out: Williams, Schneiderlin, Mirallas
Out if replacement found: Stek, Galloway, Bolasie

If we sold Schneiderlin for say £20m and replaced him with Ki for free then that’s good business as don’t see too much difference in quality and similar age. Don’t get me wrong, I want better than Ki moving forward but he’d be a very capable squad addition.

That's without any new additions.  Add a LB, CB, and Left Winger and that's it for me.  There's plenty of talent in there to get top 7 especially if the 3 we bring in are quality.  Squad of 23

We've gone backwards by trying to sprint forwards. We need to take a deep breath and reflect. As a club, we need a solid sustainable plan.
We don't have enough money to buy our way up, and we don't have any big player asset to sell in order to support those purchases. This is a key point for me. In previous years we have been able to sell a 'big' player to help bring in several others. This year, we don't. We have plenty to cast off, but no big single incoming fee. For that reason, we need to be more astute than we have been in recent windows.
If we can build a formidable squad alongside building a formidable stadium, happy days. We'll get there.
As fans, we need to be a bit patient and accept we ain't hitting any dizzy heights over night.
Personally, I still have Matt's posts in my mind from last pre season when we were snapping up all sorts. I knew myself it was overly risky but I just wanted to enjoy the spend for once. While in the back of my mind it was niggling that there were too many changes. But I wanted to keep it at the back of my mind!
For these reasons, I'm not keen on massive changes. Only essential ones. It's fair to say that more have to leave than come in such is the size of our squad. I don't believe our core squad is that bad. With the right manager, we'd do 7th easy with this lot.
I've been thinking of who I would let go for sure for a few weeks.....
Williams, Stek, Martina, Niasse, Garbutt, Mangala, Mirrallas.
The above just aren't needed and/or good enough.
Then there are a few that depend on individual circumstances, Im ok with them but there's a few 'if's and buts', bit on the fence...
Sandro, McCarthy, Besic, Robles, Morgan, Bolasie.
The rest, I'd keep and bring in a few absolute key signings rather than a load of average Joe's.
Some players might have lesser roles due to age, such as Rooney, Baines and Jags, but they'll still be worth keeping.

So we build a stadium bigger than that other lot. They expand by rebuilding one of the stands. Then what?
How about instead focusing on what's the best for this club and not worry about that other lot? Matchday revenue is only a small part of a club's income these days. Especially Everton's as the club wants to keep the tickets affordable.

Great work Bailey. The average position map is absolutely fascinating, thank you for posting.
We can argue about Gana and Schneiderlin all day but whichever player you prefer, no one can argue they should be on the field at the same time.
If we play anything but a back 4 and one holding mid for the last 11 games Sam is a bigger arse than words can describe. Stop changing shit, put your best 11 out there and may the best team win.

I have managed to watch the 90 minutes back again. A few things I noticed:
    1. I think Siggy playing left offers the team a much better balance than anyone else on that side. He spends most of his time inside, like Pienaar did, finding little pockets of space and even trying to get in behind. Walcott on the other side does the same so they dovetail really well. In respect of Siggy, by coming inside the opposition fullback doesnt know whether to follow him, the CM's dont know when to drop back and the CBs dont know when to push up. You can see that from his goal, and the shot in the first half. He drifts in, no-one follows and he gets the shot off. If he plays no 10 he is easier to mark IMO. The average position map is really interesting:

18 = Siggy, 19 Niasse and the 2 you can see is Davies.
    2. Controversially bar a couple of big fuck ups, I didnt think Mangala was that bad, in fact I thought he got through a lot more important work than Keane. Mangala was more aggressive, he showed great recovery speed and even for one of his fuck ups, he did a great job of covering Cuco who got badly sucked in, only to under hit the back pass (which Pickford should have knocked into touch). The second fuck up which probably resulted in their second best chance was when he was given a nudge just before he went to clear and if you have ever played football you know how stupid that can make you look. He should have just shovelled it into touch making sure that any nudge didnt stop him from clearing the ball but unfortunately its one of those things. Ironically their best chance came just after he came off and Williams was in no mans land and Cuco lost his header. Generally I thought Williams was a bit all over the place when he came on.
    3. Keane still concerns me as his use of the ball is bang average. Like Mangala he gave away a couple of really sloppy balls but the difference was that he wasnt under as much pressure when he did it, in fact once he wasnt under any.  He didnt have anyone tricky to play up against, just big lads so he should have had his perfect game. For the Benteke chance he gets dragged into the middle of the pitch but is nowhere near making a challenge and that left Kenny v Benteke where there is only one winner. To his credit the next time that happened, he did get his toe in, but if he is going to follow a striker in he has to make a challenge.
    4. Gueye showed that once again he is a far superior player without Schneiderlin sat alongside him. Lots more forward passes combined with simple layoffs to and from Rooney or Davies for them to earn their wages.

    5. It was a shame to see Coleman go off but that was as good of a performance from Kenny as I have seen for a few weeks. He played a big part in the 2nd goal, racing forward, latching onto the loose ball and putting the original ball into the box. For the third goal, he made a great overlapping run to allow Walcott more time and space to put the ball in and then got the rub of the green as the ball rebounded into the space he had just run into. If he doesnt make that run, the move breaks down to nothing.
    6. Rooney and Davies ran the show but in very different ways. Rooney was patrolling, making sure Gana was in check and organising from deep, picking the ball up and getting us going forward whereas Davies was buzzing around everywhere. Linking the play, getting in behind, putting challenges in etc. It was Davies buzzing around that got him the goal.

    7. Walcott... Different class. I honestly didn't think he would have this type of impact. He really is class, first touch, technique, dribbling, finishing. He just causes problems and all the time we are on the front foot he is  big threat and outlet. Even defensively he is working really hard to help his full back which is something he didn't have to do at Arsenal. He must be staking his claim to be England's most in form winger?

A few of our general observations are confirmed:
Any Back 3 that includes Keane, Gana and Schneiderlin turn off the tele or leave the stadium immediately.
    Keane is a disaster.
Interesting it seems a back 4 with Gana and another supporting mid (Davies/Rooney) appears to work...better.
