pete0 reacted to Peter H in Bobby v Moyes - if you could have moyes back now would you?
Id say that the Man U squad was in better shape than Evertons back in August. It was Moyes constant BS in the transfer season that built for the season he is having and the first major difference between DM and RM.

RM came into Everton with a plan in his head, ready for action. He knew what he needed to make the squad better and got it done quickly.

The second major difference is the attitude towards the opponents.

Third difference is how the players play. No more sweeping crosses to wingers from defenders with two left feet. Keep the ball on the ground and keep possession. The difference here is not massive and I do think DM started this at Everton. At times over the past 2-3 seasons Everton played really attractive football but it seems as if RM gets the team to do this more consistently.

I think the best RM has done is to create a CM partnership that really really works. Spice that up with Evertons strengths over the past two seasons which is the wings and add a striker that knows where the goal is an voila, a working team.

I'm just trying to work out what clubs with a better following than Everton would have offered a manager £70k a week to do the following:-

Work with a low risk transfer budget, enabling higher wages to attract the quality places who can be bought cheap Finish in the league in and around where your wage budget predicts you will finish Surrender to top teams as long as you do the above Play any negative tactics and selections which may result in the above, as long you do 2 above Allow you to tell the fans and press that its ok to do the above 2 because you are a little lowly club
I don't really think other options would have been anything other than maybe Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle.... do we really need to thank him for not going to those mega clubs???

In all seriousness, as stated before, Moyes did a rescue job for us and dined out on that.

Joe Royle rescued us from relegation, won a cup, took the game to the so called big teams, transformed the team and rather than use "transfer policy" to negotiate a new bumper deal for himself actually had the integrity to resign when the board never ok'd a move for Tore Andre Flo (who would have been amazing for us BTW). I respect him immensely.

Joe Royle is 5 times the man David Moyes will ever be. His humble style and loyalty to what Everton are to him will always be a reason why fans love him - it's just a pity some only remember Moyes... Joe Royle was a MAN.

Dragged his trailing foot so much he took up the pitch before hitting the keeper. Shouldn't be a pen imo.

Spurs are finding holes in Man Us defense all the time by dropping it in behind the defenders. Can see Mirallas and Deulofeu having a blast on wednesday. (Hope RM plays them both)

I thought Coleman was probably the weakest link again yesterday. He got forward excellently all game and I have no issues with that aspect but I thought he was caught out positionally quite a few times, especially when it was 0-0. Assaidi looked to have the beating of him in the first spell but he got better as the game went on and looked most comfortable when Stones came on and he moved to RWB.

Well, I think it would be a mistake to summarily dismiss Segunda competition or his experience with the NT...I imagine he sees the space he's afforded in the Premiership and his eyes dilate, dribbling & getting into scoring position for a winger are fundamental

He's 19 as you say so there will indeed be a learning curve about when to use the accelerator and not to along with decision making but the natural talent & skills are in abundance...Plus, he's never had confidence issues as he's dominated at every level he's played...Although he never quite made much of a splash with Barcelona's 1st team the handful of times he played

BTW, thought Pienaar & Oviedo were outstanding as well

Thought I'd leave you with his comp over the years

Thought Smalling and Jags had pretty good games myself.

I know I'm in a tiny minority but I really don't see the fuss about Townsend. He's a typical English winger in that he can run but he doesn't have much technical ability to beat a man. If the defender is as fast as he is then he's going to be completely nullified. The creaming over him is beyond a joke.

Buying a LB is hardly likely to give him instant results. The logical and sensible thing to do would be to persevere with the capable Evra til the summer, splash out on a position that they actually need to strengthen and which will make a difference to their results you point out they need, and go after the better long term option of Shaw in the summer.

Obviously I'd rather they don't do that and we get a good wedge for Baines, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Is it his way of saying... "Kone is out, I can do better than Jelavic so play me or the only way I will leave is on my terms"

I'll be brutally honest, I would sooner see him up front than Jelavic...

David Seaman was injured for eight games between February and March in the 1997 season so Manninger took to the sticks to replace him. In the eight games that he played he kept eight clean sheets equaling the clean sheet record for that season. He was however replaced as soon as Seaman was fit to play and didn't feature again for the remainder of the campaign.

well....i said over...that could be 1 in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10...it's not an exact science...my point being the percentage of black people wanting to be refs will be lower due to the lower percentage of black people..add to that some of them not wanting to be refs or not being good enough to be refs...why do we need affirmative action because a certain 'minority' isn't employed enough? that to me is backing up positive discrimination

The article says we're creating less? So erm, yeah, myth dispelled!

We don't look safe at the back despite not conceding that many. A lot of that is down to Howard having a storming start to the season. It would be interesting see how many saves he's made compared to this time last season. I don't feel confident when sides attack us that we'll repel them, but I felt like that last season so it's not something that's been caused by Martinez.

He's here to be on the receiving end of that I suppose. What I mean is that if he's ever to make it at Barca he needs to deal with that sort of thing. Sink or swim.

Personally, I'd rather take a positive risk in the hope of giving them something to worry about and it not work out and us lose than be cautious and have them piss all over us. Again.

Lukaku and De Bruyne I believe are very good friends (since they were 10) and they rely on each other. Could be more possible than people think.

So, closing your eyes and forgetting yesterday....

If, at the beginning of the season we'd been offered sixth place after eleven games, one of only two teams with just a single defeat, five points off the top of the table, equal on points with ManU and Spurs, ahead of City and a point behind Chelsea....all after (unluckily) only getting three points from the first three "winnable" games you'd have taken it right?

i believe Mirallas should play on the left if we want him to score goals -
he did well there till Suarez stood on his ankle last season-
Delefue on the right and Barkley or Pienaar behind striker
