pete0 reacted to thoward18 in Clint Dempsey
I think what needs to be put in perspective here is that a guy like Dempsey is loaned out because he wants it and his club are doing him a favor; not for any financial gain. No, we wouldn't get him for free, but Seattle would give him to us for pennies on the dollar because they just want to make Dempsey happy and bringing him to training camp in February in playing shape only benefits them. Bringing an EPL quality player for a ridiculously cheap price is not something that should be taken lightly.
I've said this before, but Dempsey is similar to Cahill. Decent technical skills, yes, but what separates him from the pack is his willingness to fight for every ball and wear his heart on his sleeve. Add in the fact that he will have a chip on his shoulder due to Tottenham's (lack of) usage of him and the upcoming World Cup, and he'd give us 110% every game. He can play up top, delayed striker, AMC, central mid, or wing. Basically, a better version of Naismith. We've seen time and time again how the teams that win games in the EPL are not solely the ones who have the best players, but the ones who have the depth to withstand a 38 game season with internationals and cup matches thrown in between. I think we'd be silly not to bring in Dempsey unless Seattle's lost its mind and wants a ridiculous loan fee.

you tell me - the other AMCs after Barkley that we have are Ossie, Naismith and Deul. I know Pienaar and Mirallas could play there but then who do you put in the corresponding AML/R positions? Ossie, Naismith and Deul....

And still on the subject of thick footballers.....a day after the FA's England commission is criticised for lack of diversity....

....Rio Ferdinand is added to it .
Token black face?
Can't stand "positive discrimination" myself....if the best ten people for the job happen to be ten white males then so be it. The tokenism of adding a black guy for the sake of it perpetuates racism rather than solving it.

To accomodate Lamela, Eriksen, and Sigurdsson who all play in a similar position. Plus the price was great for a player his age.

I'm in full agreement with you, Pete, so no point me listing them tbh.

I love this comment on the BBC website: "If Southampton are to compete for a Champions League place then they really need to be beating these mid table sides."

im assuming thats because you didnt see the 1st half and had no reason to have all faith in our CBs shaken. Ive been a bag of nerves since the Kone miss.
That was a dirty, not-pretty win and its something that weve not managed to pull off too many times so thats something!

Not much between them so at least it's competitive, but not much found quality-wise. Looks more like a game between relegation candidates, v.hard to believe Liverpool are top of the league.

Swedens third was a peach of a goal.

Got within three tenths of a second of my personal lap record today (45.697 against 45.313) and there was a damp patch smack in the middle of the braking area on the approach to a corner. I'd have smashed it otherwise (this should probably be in "grinds gears").

Hello Everton fans,
This will be my second visit to Goodison Park.
It all started last year....
My daughter is a massive Romelu Lukaku - fan.
So we went to see him with West Bromwich at Old Trafford around x-mas.
The deal was ...Romelu on saturday , Everton-Chelsea on sunday.
Despite the 1-2 loss , i saw a great game.
With Romelu's loan to Goodison , i had to hear the same question every day.
"When are we going back?"
Yesterday , i booked the plane tickets.
The Southampton game...and the Royal Oak.
Greetings,
Jurgen.
Seasonticket holder KV Mechelen.
Charmed by Goodison , home of Liverpool finest.
