Im completely the opposite. I want to take something from this shit pile of a season. As long as we finish 17th or higher I couldn't care about the league. Obviously most people are of the belief that we'll be flat out reaching 17th, but I'd like to respectfully disagree with that.

Agreed, looks like sour grapes from Martinez. It is very frustrating though, feels like the big spenders (United, City, Chelsea) always seem to get the rub of the green with referees decisions.

No I agree in that it shouldn't matter whether he scores or not because he is being a tosser either way however you wouldn't have heard a whisper about it today if he had. None of this cliques, changing room troubles, fallouts and other bollocks. In fact if he had scored I bet some would even be saying he should be our new number one taker.

If he does go I'd try to bring in Bolasie he's in the last year of his contract will be on minimal wages and we'd have spare change to help strengthen elsewhere

As an ex serious table tennis player I take a bit of offence at the suggestion that it's something you can get good at while too injured to play football. Takes great stamina and reflex to play properly, plus all muscles intact :shaking fist:.

It's not like you bought him a kit with Denis Straq on the back is it? A 3 club champions league winner... lets be honest in years to come when Eto is still spoken about as one of the best strikers to have played the game your son will be able to say "I've got his name on the 2014-2015 kit, seen him play etc etc"

It's not one or the other. Yes, he was up for it the other night. Yes, he had been dropped prior, so he had a point to prove. And, yes, he was given significantly more service. Did he look more up for it because he had been dropped or because he was finally getting some service? You can't answer that, as you're not Lukaku. His words seem to point towards him being happy about getting some service. Though, he probably understandably wouldn't want to talk about having been dropped.
 
Also, did he get more service because he was working harder? Or did he get more service because the game plan was to get the ball to him more often? This you can't say. Through the stories that have since come out, it seems like the latter. But, of course, he wouldn't have gotten to some of the balls if he wasn't working harder.
 
The bottom line is that some people are going to have a narrative about Lukaku being a lazy git who relies on his natural gifts but has no can-do attitude. Some people's go-to narrative will be about Lukaku being understandably frustrated on the pitch, as he's our biggest asset and we don't play to his strengths. Some people will just scream "Martinez out!" and cry for Bill to go get Vellios and Count Stracqula back.

Not in our case.

All the speculation about dressing room unrest and frustration at Martinez's tactics would obviously never get fed from any of the players or Bobby himself, but Lukaku has admitted the players asked to play more direct vs West Ham and he reckons that's why he had a cracking game.

People will claim he did it with Moyes squad/foundations, but he still sold Fellaini, brought in Barry, Gerry and Rom and taught different style of play. Moyes inherited Fergie's champion squad and how did that turn out?

Why only away perfromances, do the home victories to Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal and cracking 3-3 draw at home to Liverpool invalidate your opinion???
 
The away performances weren't Moyes performances - far from it. No penknives to gunfights, compare our performance at the emirates to that of Moyes - Arsenal got away with a draw and knew it. The previous visit we were trying all sorts of anti football.
 
The Liverpool performance against us when they thumped us was to be fair exceptional, that team went on a run and battered the likes of Arsenal.
 
Do you think that we were worse in that game than Moyes 10 year anniversary gift of a hat trick to Steven Gerrard where when well beaten he took off a striker for a defender? The kop sang "10 more years" - we lost 3-0 trying not to concede against a poor Liverpool side vs losing 4-0 with an injury depleted side against a rampant Liverpool team.

Merson aside - its quite incredible that sentiments towards Moyes have changed according to our recent downturn. Some may forget the fact that his dour tactics, poor substitutions, negativity when playing the top 4 led to disgruntled fans and decreasing attendances but I won't.
 
He dined out on his rescue act and therefore was indulged to continue to be a one dimensional manager. The very fact that fans can call out specific games where we played nice football says it all he managed us for 518 games... yet specific games are being called out in order to say "he did play nice football" - Absolute nonsense, those games were the exception to the rule.
 
 
I'm beyond angry with Martinez right now. My only hope is that behind the scenes he is really having a long hard look at himself and understanding that he needs to evolve his methodology and not just stubbornly stick to it. The lack of tempo is the biggest issue, the lack of fight in certain players, and his inability to see that Gareth Barry needs to be disciplined for his recent performances - not started again.
 
A bit of humility and not positivity is what he needs.

What are these strange other plans Moyes apparently had? I can remember a lot of utterly predictable and sterile rubbish played under him, with a lot of gormless staring from the halfway line when things went wrong, late and ineffective substitutions, and the insistence on playing his favourites. Perhaps the spirit of Moyes is haunting Martinez? We have been horrible all season, culminating in this even more horrible run. Agree with much that has been said in this thread by various parties, but haven't got quite as desperate as to want the Moyes days back. I want Martinez to be brave, positive, and gamble - which I expected of him when he came - not stick to things which just aren't working. Play your players in their best position and drop Barry from any position.

For me, it's not really about getting youngsters in the side. I just want the underperformers to get dropped, rather than keep playing them and then being terrible. Barry is a case in point. If it's a youngster that comes in for them then so be it, but it doesn't have to be. I'm just sick to death of doing the same fucking dance every single game.
