That's a lovely stadium mock-up - http://www.designfootball.com/Stadium-design/chivas-new-volcano-stadium/

And pictures of it during the build - http://www.ecofriend.com/gallery/volcano-soccer-stadium/

I tell you what, i'd more more than happy moving to 'the loop' and having this as a stadium

The architectural designers who recently offered the Chargers a dramatic new stadium concept have taken it to another level: digital animation.

And they're getting rave reviews from the Bolts' own design team.

Last month, on-air and online, NBCSanDiego ran the still-pic images of the DeBartolo-Rimanic Design Studio (DBRDS) team's alternative, space-age approach to a versatile stadium complex in East Village.

This time, the newly released animation is a dynamic virtual tour of an iconic stadium design that has been likened to a volcano.

DBRDS, working 'on spec' in a Gaslamp Quarter office loft, spoke with representatives of the Chargers' architects at a recent Expo.

"They obviously know our design; they'd seen it and thought it was fantastic," said Pauly DeBartolo, who has been working with partner Ivan Rimanic on the project since late last year. "And they weren't concerned with the fact that we had a go at it.

"They appreciated that, and they said, if anything, that raises the bar for them in what they need to do."

They might need to bring the local upstarts 'on board' in some fashion.

Either way, DeBartolo-Rimanic's landscape architect-partner says buzz from the volcano design could have a galvanizing effect.

"People will start to get really excited," said David McCullough, namesake of McCullough Landscape Architecture. "There will be a level of passion for our city and our downtown that develops over the next couple of years.

"We have a huge opportunity here. It's at the right time."

Added DeBartolo: "We feel it has enough consideration to create the imagination that this can really benefit the entire community -- not just the Chargers."

Chargers fans who were shown the stadium animation and still images Wednesday offered ready testimonials in favor.

"This is mind-blowing nice; I mean, it's beautiful," said La Mesa resident Monty Prokop outside an East Village pub, awaiting the start of the Padres' game against Atlanta. "I'm a sports fan, and I think its great."

Said College Area resident Joe Campise: "It's something the taxpayers could really get behind, once they see how nice they did on this."

Chargers Special Counsel mark Fabiani says the head of the club's stadium design team will meet here in San Diego next month with the DeBartolo-Rimanic-McCullough team.

Among the talking points: a retractable roof and downtown parking.

But above all, Fabiani reminds, the bedrock issue is that somebody has to show everybody 'the money.'

A big reason why the NFL was in lockout mode for over 130 days. Retired players wanted more health benefits because of the deterioration that the sport has on the player's bodies. It is actually pretty overwhelming sometimes. I've never seen more gruesome injuries in any other sport... I'd imagine rugby has more concussions though.

Goal-line technology could be used in the Premier League as early as the start of the 2012-13 season.

The law-making International Football Association Board will rule in March 2012 on whether to approve the system.

If it gets the green light then Fifa boss Sepp Blatter says leagues can use it from the start of the 2012-13 season, if "accurate and affordable".

Premier League boss Richard Scudamore has said England's top flight will use it as soon as it is allowed.

Blatter added that goal-line technology could also be used at the 2014 World Cup.

The Fifa chief opposed goal-line technology for years and appeared to have ended the debate on its future in March 2010.

GOAL-LINE CLOSE CALLS

  • Pedro Mendes - Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham, 2006 Premier League
  • Jonathan Howard - Chesterfield 3-3 Middlesbrough, 1997 FA Cup semi-final
  • John Eustace - Watford 2-2 Reading, 2008 Championship
  • Frank Lampard - England 1-4 Germany, 2010 World Cup
  • Sir Geoff Hurst - England 4-2 West Germany, 1966 World Cup final

However, the Swiss re-opened it after Frank Lampard had a legitimate goal ruled out in England's 4-1 World Cup defeat by Germany later that year.

Blatter later apologised for the officials' error, saying it was unforgivable and that it had changed his mind on the matter.

Private trials of different systems of goal-line technology are taking place this year, with the international board to make its decision in March 2012.

If the body approves a system, it will then be brought into law on 1 July 2012.

Blatter was speaking at a news conference in Brazil ahead of Saturday's qualifying draw for the 2014 World Cup, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

He also said that it was yet to be decided whether the recent experiment of using two additional referees behind the goal-line, which has been trialled in Europa League games, would be "installed as a general rule".

The experiment will be reviewed further in July 2012 after the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

If this is true, it's friggin madness - http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Inter-Milan-Samuel-Eto-o-set-300-000-per-week-move-Anzhi-Makhachkala-making-him-worlds-best-paid-player-article783604.html

Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o is set to join Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala - on an incredible salary of £300,000 a week.

The monopoly-money wages will, unsurprisingly, make the 30-year-old Cameroon marksman the highest-paid player in the world.

His wages will dwarf the earnings of Lionel Messi at Barcelona and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

You'll be staggered to learn that Eto’s representative Claudio Vigorelli has confirmed that the striker has agreed personal terms.
