Steve, as always, bringing some sanity!

No Davies (or Deuolofeu, I would add) in favor of a bench that for the most part lacked creativity and the ability to hold onto the ball. As a result, when McCarthy came off, it was either going to be Cleverley (light-weight but useful enough with the ball) or Barry (strong, but too slow to keep up with the pace of the derby). And, taking Valencia (already a square peg in a round hole) off for another striker (whose use of the ball and ability to retain possession aren't exactly his strong suits) forced to play the wing and defend was another poor decision that could've been averted. Mirallas made the most sense, considering the bench we had and what was needed. But, again, a player like Davies (who can do the dirty work and move the ball) or Deulofeu (who doesn't do much dirty work, but uses the ball well, stretches play and requires attention) would've been great options. Instead, we had two backup right backs.

I pointed it out as it happened. Lovren should've been off for running all the way up there and instigating that

Agreed. It's not only unbecoming. It's also dangerous to have betting intertwined with the game.

The Chang deal is uninspiring, but I'd rather not wear a shirt advertising a gambling site.

I just don't see the fucking point in leaving two DMs on and not changing our shape when we're chasing a game that we haven't been in all afternoon.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan, I fucking hate international breaks. You wieners are arguing over whether a healthy Baines will be good or great.

MJB, you masturbate, too. I'm a married man and I do it. If you don't, get in as much as you can now. Once Pence is VP, we're going to have to file death certificates every time we blow a load.

We need to specify an adequate sample size first.

I like his attitude in that piece. It's good to know that he's putting in effort and wants to prove that he's worth it. But, I don't want him around our club after domestic abuse. Crossed an uncrossable line there.

Our starting CBs are on the wrong side of 30. I know we have a few promising players coming through, but we need to have more quality young players pushing the veterans for their places.

We definitely still need more quality options in attacking midfield and at striker though. Not trying to say that your assertion there is off.

Besic has been given chances. He's never come in and shown that he's a better all-around player than Barry or even McCarthy (though, I'll admit, that one is up for debate). He's not close to Gana in terms of composure, though he is a talented player. Anyhow, he's always injured. He's not become smarter, stronger, more skilled, more reliable, a better passer, nothing, since he's been here. He's shown glimpses of promise, but he's never really done anything of note, as far as I can remember. Why should we remember Besic when he hasn't shown how he will be the future, let alone that he even could be the future? The club can't wait for him to get healthy, stay healthy, and come into his own as a player.

What a stupid fucking article. It's this type of bullshit that keeps people agitated over Barkley and abusing him while he's out there. It's this type of bullshit that his family no doubt reads. This shit gets back to him, no doubt.

The only reason for writing this article was to defend the reporter's own laziness when it comes to searching for new stories. Case in point: "Koeman might not like the constant barrage of Barkley questions that are coming his way but they will continue to do so unless answers are produced on the pitch rather than from the Dutchmans mouth."

In other words, "I'm going to keep writing this story until you start giving in or something better comes along."

But, he doesn't give it away more than other players, especially those up front, do. His giveaways are magnified because of the expectation that, with his talent, what amazing things we've seen him do, and all that we've built him up to be, he will turn a miracle every time he touches it. And, of course he can't make miracles happen constantly (no player can), but we punish him for not being perfect. When he misses a pass that was on, holds onto the ball too long, makes a quick decision but a wrong one, or when he misses a shot, we as fans and the Goodison crowd abuse him. I think so many of us have put upon him the expectation that he's going to be Everton's savior (not to mention England's), that, when he fails to live up to that impossible standard, we vent all of our unfulfilled frustrations and place them onto him. In these moments, he functions as yet another symbol of unfulfilled promise and all that is wrong with club and country. From the US, and as someone who hasn't followed Everton from birth, this is evident in how the local and national press treat homegrown and English players and how fans internalize all of this. There's without a doubt an inferiority complex at work here, and Everton fans (and England fans) are constantly looking for answers as to why the team can't return to former glories. The press brings news of messiahs, and everybody gets their hopes up, and 16-year-old kids are shouldered with the hopes and dreams of club and country. Yet, none can live up to the standards. When times are good and the team is playing well, everybody sings the praises of that diamond, Ross Barkley. But, when the team's form drops, everybody looks to him and says "I've doubted you from the beginning, you fucking charlatan!" This is where the "you never ask about Seamus Coleman" quote from Koeman comes from. Ross Barkley isn't the panacea for all of Everton's ills and neither is he the root of the apparent disease.

Dude... What?!? He was making a point about the absurdity that he's only asked about Ross (or Lukaku, or whoever is the media darling) and how it's unfair on the player. That's why he chose to talk about the team immediately afterward.
