An understandable mistake. In the last match, not much difference between the two.

Here I blame the media and its obsession with the bad. Both the US and UK spend massive amounts on helping other nations, but it rarely gets recorded. Take George Bush, for example. He initiated and authorized a massive program to help AIDS victims across Africa. Even his harshest critics praised what he did, which was far more than anyone expected. Did it ever get reported? This is true of many thousands of programs around the world. Things are nowhere near as bad as they are made out. All countries have their good and bad, but I'm glad I'm from the UK and live in the US - both countries to be admired in many ways.

    Nestle in Vevey?

I remember taking the train every day for a week Montreux to Geneve, and I would positively look forward to the female guard saying the name 'Vevey'. The French language can be very sensuous, and that town's name very much so.

I suspect the negative comments in this thread represent a deep-seated resentment to the fact that I happen to be married to the most beautiful and wonderful woman in the world and have been for over 32 years. Sorry guys, but she's not available. I didn't mean to cause such upset, but some things can't be helped.

I'll bet you that RM has shown videos over and over that reveal where the problems lie. It doesn't really matter that we were exposed in preseason: The true test is whether we learn from it and do things differently the next time around.

Enjoyed the game. We're getting better with each game, which is a good sign. Yes, there are still too many sloppy passes, and I get nervous sometimes as we pas our way from the back, but the players are beginning to get the system and to gel. Against most of the teams in the EPL, tonight's performance, even with so many second-team players, would have won the game.

Positives: Naismith, Howard (except for the mis-kick!), Coleman, Mirallas, Jelavic.
Negatives: Heitinga (needs to leave), Osman (will be fighting for a first team place), Stones (showed his inexperience near the end)
OK, but could improve: Fellaini (I wish he'd put his heart into it!), Baines
Didn't see enough to comment: Deulofeu, Oviedo

The neat thing is that we're coming out of the pre-season with a decent squad of players. The team line-up could vary from week to week without anyone wondering why the "first team" isn't playing. There are now multiple first teams and some useful options.

I don't see the result as a foregone conclusion at all. I really think Real have an outside chance.

Love it or hate it, this is the free market at work. Put salary and transfer caps on place and all the good players will move to other leagues. If we want the EPL to be the best, we have to accept free market principles. If you don't like it, don't watch TV sports. That would stop the funding.

I keep thinking back to Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough. Season 1: third place to secure promotion from Championship to Premier (to use today's nomenclature). Season 2: won the Premier League title; Season 3 and Season 4: won the European Cup (Champions League). They made it with rather average players because they were a brilliant team that got the most out of everyone and were led by a brilliant manager. The lack of funds didn't stop them for succeeding; however, a lack of funds did prevent them from building a 20-year legacy.

It doesn't matter where I buy the ingredients for the world's best dish. What matters is that they are the right blend of ingredients, and my skill as a cook is what makes the dish great. I fail to understand why people care so much about this transfer window, how much is spent, and where players come from. What matters is how individual players meld to create the world's greatest team. The finished dish is what counts, not the individual ingredients.

That's not a given. Edward VIII was forced to abdicate because parliament would not allow the head of the Church of England to marry a divorcee. Several decades have passed, but I don't see why Charles should get a free pass. Either parliament must change the law so the king/queen us not the head of the C of E, or Charles should decline the throne in favour of his son.

    - Jelavic gets upset when Kone is brought in
    - Jelavic wants to see RM to understand where he fits
    - Agent smells money and tells the media "Jelavic demands to know why he's not #1"
    - Agent calls one of two clubs previously interested
    - Hamburg duly oblige by returning his call and expressing interest
    - Agent tells Hamburg team that Everton is shopping around for buyers (whether true or not is immaterial)
    - Hamburg team repeat this story to the media, hoping to unsettle Jelavic and improve their chances of a good deal
    - Agent laughs all the way to the bank until Everton either do business or stomp on the suggestion

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Matt in 3-4 players wanted, but who are your choices?
My guess is that, behind the scenes, the deal has already been done. Whether it's both Fellaini and Baines or Fellaini only, time will tell. This would explain why RM has three or four players already lined up to join the team. My only concern is that some will moan and gripe about bringing in more former Wigan players (e.g., McCarthy and Moses). If they are the right guys for the job, though, I don't see why their former teams should matter.
