I agree. To many times we play a weak team and then end up chasing a game. Get a good lead and then make the changes.

If we were going to give them a real game we could have done with Pienaar and Gibson.
 
When they are in possession, they constantly sit on our defensive line. We don't do this.

We've been in for him a few times in the past but he's decided to chase the money e.g Newcastle - maybe he should have come begging earlier if he wanted to play for us so much.

Chaddy, Rochina was injured which is why he didn't play (or at least that's what I understand).
 
Love the interview with one of the Evertonians....knows no Rovers players, didn't know Everton were playing us & has no idea how pre-season has gone. Great insight!!!

Newcastle eh... If he goes there it will be for the spondoolies, if which is the case then so be it. Won't be the first or last time that's happened.
 
If he comes to us then it will be for reasons that we should be very encouraged by. His faith in Martinez for one, and the realisation in playing for a team where we have identified how he is going to fit in.
 
We will see. I'm just happy to witness an Everton manager trying to do his business early and is being very up front and candid about his aims and what he sees in the players.

Like I said earlier in the thread, he had a decent first half of the season, second half was relegation standard (sixteen points from nineteen games with players such as Lukaku on lucrative wages).

I believe the same question could be asked of Moyes in terms of goals scored by his strikers (failure to kick on) despite him having the ability to pay the wages for a better quality player.

I understand the frustration Rubes, but id rather the club took their time picking the right guy for the job rather than appoint a Mark hughes or a Martin O'neil.
 
Stoke can afford to slip up alot more than we can, given their relatively sound financial footing. We cant afford to get someone in who is going to piss £10,£20m up the wall and have us in mid-table mediocrity. This is a massive stage in our clubs history and future in many ways. Im very rarely in favour of actions the board make, but im quite pleased we are taking our time and making sure we get the right guy.

I don't see how you can say he has done shite in his time in the prem. I for one think he has done a very good job with a low budget, terrible attendances and he gets them to play a decent style of football. I think you need to look at his time at Swansea as well as Wigan. He (along with Sousa) transformed them into the club they are today. His team on winning the league, easily out scored every other club and the goal difference was huge. I believe it's important that we build on what Moyes has started and simply by looking for the same 'style' of manager we won't progress. We also need a manager who has the right characteristics for this great club. I don't want a whinger, blame everybody except themselves type of person. Everton need another loyal, intelligent, hardworking and tactical manager. Martinez fits this criteria. As long as we don't get Lennon I'm happy (& of course Hughes!)

I think we need to remember that Everton, unfortunately, aint a choice for real top managers. By this I mean poor finance, dated stadia, not in europe and still likely to have to sell to buy.
 
So the list of possibilities may seem poor, but who else is there? None of the 'top line' managers who can look forward to Champions League football will be interested...so how many does that rule out across europe?
 
And the next lot of '2nd tier' managers will have their teams in the Europa next season, that probably rules out another lot across europe.
 
So, after that, we have to pick the 'best of the rest'...but this means they most likely dont have fantastic record...probs aint won a cup, might have had the odd promotion from a lower league, maybe finished mid table with a unfancied team on a strict budget.
 
Its not gonna be a household name is it? And whoever it is wont be every fans choice.
 
Im still a Martinez fan on the basis of the fact he has kept Wigan up for 3 years longer than they have been, plays good football, is very highly regarded by football EXPERTS (surely this says something in itself?), but also, and quite a strong point, he is still only 39 and has so much more to offer.
 
But, my 100% support to whoever it ends up being.

I just think using Wigan as a benchmark is a bit unfair in regards to Martinez's ability.

I think a common theme that I am seeing is that people who assess a managers performance based on common perceptions and very few accompanying facts - (pretty much on the back of a fag packet) think that Martinez would have us leaking goals, losing games but playing nice football...
 
It's all the same when when people refer to Moyes Everton as 'plucky', 'hard to beat', 'built on a shoe string' rather than - 'full of international quality' 'highly paid', 'top 8 salaries'.
 
If people are going to have a strong opinion on Martinez, they need to make the relevant research to have an informed opinion. Steve_E just demonstrated the power of google.
 
I believe in Martinez, my concerns are his defensive record but taking into account the quality of his defenders and his salary budget I think he can overcome them at Everton, he has missed his strongest defenders for some time now. Attacking wise and philosophy he is school of science.
 
Martinez added to Sky Sports: "We have conceded far too many goals. Going forward we have been magnificent, I think it's been our best season in terms of performances, but the injuries in the back line are something I have never seen before.

"To have four, five, even six players missing in the back line and our keeper affected with injury - our captain Antolin Alcaraz, Ivan Ramis out for the season, Ben Watson with a broken leg, (Jean) Beausejour, (Maynor) Figueroa... We have to have so many different partnerships and keep changing, and that caused us problems."
 
I think even the likes of the top 4 teams would struggle with that situation, bravo to martinez for winning the FA cup.

In 2010 according to that article their net spend is more than there spend. Impossible!

We're in a completely different position now. We need someone with a good chance of continuing Moyes' work, not someone who will be learning on the fly.

Wigan will lose tomorrow and Martinez will be given a good send off by Wigan on Sunday as he prepares to take over at Goodison - I actually think it will be that simple!!!

I'd hope we wouldn't have a need to take him back. I don't want our club to be anyone's fall back.

I think he deserves a very warm send off. Eleven years in today's football climate is a great effort. You have to take into account the poor finances he had available and he has left us in a much better position. If it was more than 2 games then I'd agree that he should step aside but our position of 6th is almost confirmed regardless of the next two results. I for one will be giving him the accolade he deserves tomorrow. Thanks Mr Moyes and for me I hope Martinez is his replacement.

Didn't see Martinez play for extra time there... Well done Roberto and Wigan, well deserved and you did it with bottle.
