msloan78 got a reaction from markjazzbassist in A Champions League spot is still a real possibility
Jelavic to bag a brace against them... and Ruddy to save an 89th minute penalty from Arteta to help us secure 4th.

Naismith, as he has done on a few occasions this season, completely changed our performance.
Notable mentions for Deulofeu and Stones.
To quote the commentator "Look out Arsenal, Everton are coming to get you".

If they all get in to the WC squad, it'll completely dispel the myth of players from top 4 getting easy ride into the squad.

Seems to fit into Martinez style of play looking at his strengths. Likes to play short passes and have a dig from range.
Heard his name before and could be decent buy for the future at only 20 years old.

Very similar to what I remember of Anders Limpar.... who is one of my favourite Everton players of recent years.

Brilliant result that. They are a premiership side in all but name with some of the players they've got there.
Kranjcar, Onouha, Assou Ekotto (?), Onyewu
Couldn't have asked for anymore I think, and used our squad really well.

The bus was pretty much parked from the instant they went 1-0 up. How many last ditch challenges and blocks did they put in and some pretty shitty challenges leading to free kicks.
Another case of not playing (or not being allowed to play) particularly well, but still getting something from the game. Goes to show how our expectations have changed though, as even though we didn't play well, I still felt that we did more than enough to actually win the game.

Good start.... poor second half, yet still we run out 4-1 winners.
Sign of a good team when you can play badly (by the standards we've set so far) and still win comfortably in the end.

I'm really enjoying these threads at the minute, as there's actual decisions to be made where in the past it was fairly straight forward between 1 or 2. Today could have been any from 7-8 players.
Think I'm going to go for Pienaar.

My Mrs has just had to give me a whack to stop me giggling! lol
What a result, and what a fantastic performance. Carried on being brave and pressing them even in the last couple of minutes after the goal.
Leighton who?

msloan78 got a reaction from Matt in Man of the Match at Man City
Yep... Lukaku did his job in the first half and scored. Second half he hardly moved and gave the ball away consistently again, same as in the Newcastle game. Should have came off a lot earlier, as he's clearly not fit enough to play the full 90 yet.
With regard to Naismith, I think there's valid points on both sides. If we had the quality for him to not be a starter, then he wouldn't be. Due to others not standing up yesterday, he looked to be one of the better Everton players on the pitch. Credit where its due.

Just finished watching the game now, and although I think City probably deserved to win based on the second half I think the referee had far too much of an impact today with his completely inconsistent performance.
The two penalty decisions. Far more contact on Lukaku than on Zabaleta yet only one is given.
Silva committed 4 (I think) fouls worthy of a yellow card when we were breaking quickly, yet only one gets punished. Coleman makes one 'similar' challenge, Silva makes a meal of... Booking.
The incident on the edge of the box prior to Aguero's goal, should have been a free kick to us due to the aggressive nature of Negredo which then led to Coleman, naively arguing the toss with him.
Dog shit performance from the ref + not good enough in the second half again = 3-1

I think most people have the exact same thoughts.
Baines- World class.
Lukaku- Beast of a manchild.

Silly me, thought 'good result today... Good performance.... Think I'll watch Match of the Day and see what they reckon'.
One eyed highlights at best. Looked like only one team played. No footage of the cynical challenges by the Chelsea players to stop us breaking, but what looked like a procession of chances for them.
Didn't quite reflect the game I thought I watched.

Thought Naismith had arguably his best game for us.
Jags, Distin and Howard all looked pretty solid, and showed desperation when it was needed.
Barkley looked good, but was perhaps guilty of keeping hold of the ball that extra touch too long.
Both full backs caused Chelsea problems I thought.
Both Jela and Mirallas worked hard to put pressure on Chelsea when they had the ball.
Gone with Barry, as I thought he just played very intelligently and was at the heart of a very disciplined defensive performance.
