I think the causes of depression can be (on the face of them) fairly insignificant or demonstrably major.

End result is the same for the person affected. No badges for having a better "excuse".

I couldn't agree with this more and something I have come to appreciate as I have aged.

Its all about an individuals perception and that can vary from person to person but also within a person too.

My understanding of the situation in January was that it was because of the manager getting sacked. To be fair, would anyone in their right mind join us after the manager getting sacked a few days before the end of the window, and with our track record in managers recently - thinking Allardyce, FSW. He was right to steer well clear.

If he had his head screwed on, he would have seen that Lampard going was a good thing! 🤣

  3. I think him choosing over Spurs wouldnt really be an issue, it was just the way he did it.

He knew full well his playing time would have been limited (at best) with Spurs but decided to go there anyway despite all but signing on the dotted line.

On one hand I dont blame him, but on the other, I wouldnt be looking to sign him unless it was financially beneficial for us.

You take that back immediately!!! 🤬

Honestly, he fitted in perfectly on the right hand side with Coleman behind him and Doucoure to his left, with Richarlison and Digne on the left side. We played some of the best football since Baines/Pienaar.

He fitted in when the team were on the up and everyone else could do the heavy lifting. When reality set in it fell apart and he became a liability with the odd moment of magic.

James didn't fit in because FSW bears grudges.

He was well on his way out under Carlo when we were playing with our backs to the wall week-in week-out.

  5. I don't see RB being his position.

From what I saw of England he could play in that role because he played the position in a similar way that Arsenal/City/TAA now play the position, i.e lots of possession and moving into midfield.

I don't see those type of tactics being able to be copied under Dyche for all that he did well up against Bournemouth as a wingback.

  6. I just dont see how Barkley would fit into the Dyche "collective" ethos.

He is an enigma. A player that you dont want to overburden with instruction other than to go out there and play. He will pop up and completely run some games and others you wont see him for 89 minutes and the other 1 minute he will be giving the ball away.

I just dont see how him and this team fits, in exactly the same way as I don't see how Alli fits. Also in the same way James ultimately didn't fit.

I just hope they don’t read this thread and bring someone in just for the sake of signing someone.

Lots of dead wood leaving. Making money of players who are nowhere near the first team and won’t improve us this year.

If we can now work on two or three good signings. Along with the players we have coming back, we should be in a better place.

It’s nowhere near as bad as the media is making it out to be. But our fans are unfortunately reading to much into it as well.

Deli could be a new player.
Cannon could be a new player.
Gomes could be a new player.
Dom could be a new player.

Add a few decent signings and we look stronger than last season.
Yes other teams are making signings, but are they going to make a massive difference to those teams? It happens every year.

Im with you on this until you got to the Dele/Gomes bit! 🤣

  8. Just looking more at his wages, according to Sportrac he was on £50k in 21/22 for Villa (doesnt show last season). That is less than Myko (£58k) and Seamus (£55k) were last season.

That is a lot more reasonable than expected.

I generally dont like the idea of a signing like this but if it allows us to get another year through the FFP regs, focus on the areas we are desperate for this season and then get a proper full back in the following season then it is just about stomachable... maybe.

Plus it would be nice to have a full back that can cross.

History is littered with bit part average players in great teams that have medals and trophies. Ashley Young is one of those. Take Ashley Young out of that Man Utd team and replace with any slightly above average player and they still win what they did.

Im not exactly an Ashley Young fan but that is harsh on him.

He played 26 games for Inter Milan when they won the Seria A at the age of 35/36.

He played 19 times for United in their PL winning season. He played 25 times the season before when they finished 2nd. He played 30 games when they finished 2nd under Mourinho.

He was also an important player for Villa in his first spell and then again for Emery last season.

Both teams had the resources and the players to play someone else over him and they decided to use him still for big chunks of the season. You may be right, maybe they could have still had that success without him, but put that into the context of our squad and sadly that still makes him a viable option at the age of 38.

  10. I can understand Simms because he has been around the block, played in different leagues, had his chance and still looked very raw.

Cannon has come straight out of the U23 squad, contributed 9 goals / assists in 20 games in the Championship, scoring 5 from 5 in the EFL trophy with 2 assists and generally looks a better and more rounded player than Simms. If he gets sold to a Championship club, then it would raise huge alarm bells.

Anything over £35k a week is too much.

We must be mad selling a 17 year old left back who has played for England at every level up to Under 21 for next to nothing and then buy in a 37 year has been who was never even that great when he was in his prime 7+ years ago.

We are seriously f***ed if this what our transfer window is going to be like

Might as well get it over and done with and just ask to be put in the championship.

Not that great... but still the player who has played at the highest level and won the most trophies of anyone else in our squad (not checked).

  12. The positives are that he has won things and been part of successful clubs. Even when Emery joined, he played the majority of games (RB). He is also versatile, covering up to 4 positions. He would also be our best attacking fullback in respect of the quality he can provide in the final third.

The negatives are that he is clearly past his best, however he doesnt seem to be picking up lots of injuries. He did only finish 4 games since February. If we started Coleman and him as full backs there is a good chance both would have to come off before the end of the game. This also raises the question as to how much actual cover he can provide. I assume he is there as a left back, so what happens if Mykolenko is injured? Do we play 75 mins of Young and then when we are chasing the game, bring in Godfrey? Do we have to change system and take McNeil out of his most dangerous position?

As I have mentioned before, I am also concerned he will want far too much in wages too.
