I understand your point but Coady is also reliable (well, a lot more reliable than Holgate, Keane and Godfrey) and he is a leader. I rate him above all three of those and for £4.5 million I think he is a solid back up. The only way I am happy with this now is if Keane and Holgate also leave (I’ll give Godfrey the long covid benefit of the doubt for now) and they are replaced with much better quality.
I don't think he is any more reliable than Keane to be honest. Godfrey and Holgate yes, but is questionable as to how much more. I dont get why we would buy another player to sit on the bench and be average. Id also he isnt suited to the way Dyche will want to play (4 at the back, defending lots of crosses).
We might not be able to sell any of the other players either, whereas we can give Coady back to Wolves.
We have no money, the last thing we need to do is waste it on a mediocre player we dont need, in a position we dont need.

Fucking long Covid get the fuck out here what utter garbage, he’s just another expensive long shot that hasn’t paid off, as a club we are past masters it paying big bucks for below average players, so don’t be so surprised that Godfrey has joined the ranks of well over a dozen in the last 7 years.
I agree, he is just not a good defender. He wasn't at Norwich and he isn't now. He has also lost his pace and any confidence he had. I also don't think he is the smartest of footballers. Not Holgate levels but he isn't miles off.

This is fucking weird thread!
I feel like some of you lot are the types that would see a reduced price, on date, ropey looking prawn cocktail sandwich because it was 20p off when there is a freshly made BLT on the shelf above.
Coady is bang average (at best). We have too many bang average players. It doesn't matter how much he costs, we need less bang average and not more. Move on!

Congrats Boston!
Thanks for all the hard work Cornish!

Still think we needed to sell him when his stock was at its highest. His value is only going down at the moment.

I went with Doucoure for the season changing goal.

I would move the CB's on in the following order:
1. Holgate
2.Godfrey
3. Keane
- Romey 1878, Palfy and Matt

You wouldn't have known he's not a right back or right wing back. He played so well and I can't remember him putting a foot wrong.
This was the most impressive bit about his performance. When I watched his first few games I was worried about his defensive ability but that show on Sunday was impeccable and he is really shining under Dyche. You probably wont like this comparison, but I see him as a bit like our Ward-Prowse. Really impressive technical ability, a good head on his shoulders and the rest of his all round game is solid.

I feel like Johnny Evans' legs have gone a bit now.

Great being the hard man, but almost threw the game away with a moment of madness. He made up for it second half.
Its clear he suits Dyche's style and he will be good to have around for the next couple of seasons whilst we rebuild.

I think Walker-Peters would be a really good signing. I have been a fan for a while but he also has the versatility to play both sides and we need depth in those positions. I cant see him costing much either and wages will be very affordable.
I would prefer a natural LB though.
-
I think Guehi would be the wrong type of defender for this side. He is a good footballer but he is small and weak for a CB and that isnt the way Dyche plays.
I also think he would cost a lot.
I'd prefer Kilman myself. Much less sexier but ticks all the boxes albeit probably also not particularly achievable.

I don't really like that many of our players!
I would sell all of our defenders. Keane drops a clanger, but Tarkowski is just as bad and could have cost us the game yesterday if it wasn't for Mina (and Coady). Those two in particular are on big money too. I would keep Tarkowski over the rest because he doesn't seem to let mistakes bother him as much as Keane. I dont think the rest are good enough.
The right back situation makes me nervous, Patterson needs time and as well as Coleman has stepped up this season, he needs to be replaced. Mykolenko is back up at best. He is on low wages and gives his all, so I wouldnt be in a hurry to sell for what would surely be a big loss.
I like the look of Garner. Gueye probably doesnt have much sale value but he is just all over the place. Sometimes that is good, most of the time it isn't. Doucoure has done brilliantly in that role, but he needs to be replaced in the next 12 months. Onana could go on and do really well, but he would give us the funds we need to strengthen other areas. Dont forget he is on big money too.
Iwobi and Gray are replaceable, McNeil is the one to keep. We need 4 wide players though.
I'd try and keep Dom but again he can go at the right price. Maupay and Simms need to find new homes. Cannon should be 3rd choice, I suspect Dobbins has another loan on the cards.
The good news is we have one of the best starter/back up duo of keepers in the league.
We will definitely need to sell someone big this summer to fund the type of changes we need to the squad.

He has a lot of good attributes that a good manager could help turn him into a great player but Im not sure Dyche is that man. If big money comes in, I am sure he will be easily replaced.

Yeah I've been thinking this a lot as everyone seems to be throwing his name about. He'd do well in a team where he can be carried, as he doesn't do much from open play yet pops up with worldies from set pieces.
6 hours ago, Romey 1878 said:Honestly don't understand why anyone would want Ward-Prowse tbh.
Obviously a very good set-piece taker but from open play he's anonymous.
I disagree. I think he is a very solid all-round player who has world class set piece delivery.
The problem with him is that you are paying for the set pieces and not the other 89 minutes.
He should be £10-15mil and he would be a solid addition to most midtable sides but he will probably go for double that, with big wages to boot.
-
I wouldnt underestimate how well he did yesterday in playing without a recognised striker, left back or right back in such a massive game.
It wasnt pretty but it didnt need to be and we should have won that by a couple. Compare that to the two abject performances against them earlier in the season and its chalk and cheese.

A goal worthy of the occasion. Some big performances too, notably those 3 centre backs. Garner turning up with the best RB performance of the season.
Big relief, but lets not rest. Change is needed.

I think we are doing enough to keep going with this 11 but we just need to show some quality. Please for the love of God, show some fucking quality!

Based on what?
Best of luck to him. Cracking personality, defensive liability who scores 1-2 important goals once a season. Shame his body let's him down so often and I can really empathise with that.
If he could play the same amount of games a Keane or Tarkowski would, not only would you see a much better player but you would see a much better team.
Massive personality too which is something this side lacks on the pitch.

I would say I will miss him, but Im not sure he plays enough to miss!
I think he is a great player though and I love his character. Hopefully we can find another South American shithouse to replace him that can actually stay fit!

He has played all over the back 4 for a reason and it isn't because he is a good centre back.
