If they really want him, and open with numbers like £42m, and Everton don’t want to sell, then we need to be asking for £60m and if they are willing to pay it then let them. 
They could have had Richarlison for sort of money they are offering for Gordon. I know who I’d rather have. Gordon may take much less wages, but that wouldn’t be an issue for them anyway.

if they go to £50m that’s very good money but we already needed to bring in a couple of attacking players in and then we’ll need to get another one to replace Gordon. And there’s no point replacing Gordon, a player who is all potential at the minute, with another player who is only potential. You’ll have to spend big on a player that’s pretty much the finished product. I think we’ll struggle to do all of that with that money tbh.
If it was guaranteed that selling Gordon would mean we’d improve then I’d jump on it in a second but I think it’s a big gamble.
I don’t envy those who may have to make this decision, that’s for sure!

I don’t believe it matters when we pay, though I could be wrong. I think the fee is amortized over the duration of the contract agreed. I suppose if the side of the outgoing player agrees take less than the would-be amortized amount, perhaps it could be an even smaller hit on the books?

Feels weird to say it after a defeat but today's game has made me feel more confident about this season, rather than worried.
Last season after most defeats you'd come away and think what a load of shite that was but today I didn't feel that at all. It was frustrating game, more than anything, because we had plenty of opportunities throughout but we just lacked that bit of cutting edge and composure where it mattered.
Get those ball winners in Onana and Gana, add a striker, and we'll be absolutely fine this season.
