Greetings to All:

Well, it would seem that this deal will actually come through since he made it over there for the medical. We've (Olympiacos fans) been wondering if/when the deal would be sealed or if Everton was used as a ploy to get Arsenal to swoop in and snatch him. I guess that, although a better fit at Arsenal (stylistically) he needs to approach this a step at a time, like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, he aint in Kansas anymore. (Yes. Kansas being the Greek League)

By the way, I read a few pages back in a posted link his scouting report. ( Toffee Scouting I believe). It's pretty much on the money.

I quiet and disenchanted pup he was when he arrived a few years back (on loan) in Pireus. We didn't know what to expect exactly. We could see the quality from the pre-season friendlies but were not sure if it would blossom and fit into the "mold" and overall team "culture" of Olympiacos (to be victorious and play with pride). The kid worked extremely hard, often going to practice 2 hours earlier than anyone else practicing and honing his skills, and then staying an extra hour after practice. On his own - no coaches working on him. Eventually he gained confidence and took the starter's jersey home with him, becoming the fan favorite as he displayed excitement and finesse that the crowd loved to look for and get excited about. We knew he would "move on" to greener pastures eventually (he deserves to) so although we are bothered by it, it didn't come as a surprise.

Kevin (who played mostly left wing, then center forward and the least at right wing in a 4-2-3-1. The coach Valverde liked having reverse footed wingers who would cut in and create havoc, as well as swap sides during the game), was better at left wing than at the right. He was also good at CF but the stock of defenders in the EPL is sliiiiightly different than that in the GR League.

All in all, my take is, that with players like Kevin (their skillset) the determining factor to make or break it in the EPL is to "steal" the confidence of his opponents before they "steal" his. If he takes on the defenders with confidence and twists them around they will fear him. If he hesitates and they "rock him" a few times he will lose his confidence and be reluctant to push the throttle.

Hope this shed some light on the impeding aquisition and best of luck this season.

Hi and welcome.

Can we have fetzfadiwhatshisname too please ?biggrin.png

That will do nicely. Now then mr moyes let's see if you can mould him into a star without taking away his flair. I do love you really but you can strangle the life out of players who want to express themselves.

Anyway.... Get the fook in there!!! The type of signing we need. A bit of unpredictability up front. Let's hope he is like drenthe with the professionalism of Neville.

I can't get excited about a player I know next to nothing about, never seen play or have heard nothing about in media circles. He could be as big in Belgium as Van Damme and Tintin for all I know, but until I have seen him involved for a significant time I will reserve judgment on this latest arrival.

That's half the Rodwell money gone by my math, people say this is a worthwhile purchase, maybe some frenzied euphoria that isn't quite justified, but time will tell.

He's not that big in Belgium. He's bigger in Greece. And don't talk about comparisons to Tintin, that man is a national monument.

Olympiakos fans seem to be gutted about losing him, yet very nice about it which is cool to see.

I take it that he was well loved.

I hope Everton is a stepping stone for a bigger club for Mirallas.

Perhaps, but I'm looking forward to Mirallas make his mark in the EPL and grow with EFC over the years.

I don't think I've been so excited about a signing since... Jelavic! Hasn't been too long now then, eh? Like the direction our club is going!

Him and Felli seem to be having a lot of fun in the pictures of his first training session. Felli's English still isn't too great in the interview about Kevin. Apparently the Greek league starts later than it does in England so Olympiakos (and Kevin) haven't played too much pre-season games yet. He did play for about an hour for Belgium though and he looked fit.

As a United fan, I thought I'd check out the opposition's thoughts about tonight's game and ended up on these forums. Here I stumbled onto this thread and couldn't help but sign up and comment. I'm a Belgian, like Mirallas, and have seen a fair bit of him over the years.

Mirallas has always been a highly rated prospect in Belgium. He started his professional carreer at Lille and was rated very highly there. However, somehow he didn't seem to fullfill his potential and just looked like a flair player with no end product whatsoever. He then moved to Saint-Etienne, but again he seemed to have the same trouble as before: lots of flair, but no end product. Personally I started believing he would become one of those players with bags of talent, but nothing to show for it in his carreer. You know the kind... they move from club to club and stay for a maximum of 2 years with only a few goals, lots of sub appearances and maybe 2 decent games a season. I think many were fearing the same thing for him as his carreer was looking like it would turn out that way.

However, after his spell at Saint-Etienne, he moved to Olympiakos in Greece and did well in his first season. I was a bit surprised he had done as good as he did, not because I didn't think he was good enough, but because I thought he didn't have the right mindset to fulfill his potential. later I read an article in a magazine or newspaper (don't remember exactly) where he was interviewed, and he was surprisingly humble and down to earth in that interview. He said he had realized he was not doing things right in his carreer, and he had started realizing he had to put in hard work if he wanted to make it at the highest level. Reading what the Olympiakos fan posted earlier in this thread, that proves Mirallas put in the extra efforts that are necessary to make it as a topplayer. The return for his hard work is shown on the pitch where he has become a lot more effective. Becoming topscorer in the Greek league and being named POTY was the result.

There was a time that he wasn't being selected for the Belgian national team because he was regarded as an ineffective player at the time, but his performances in Greece got himself selected again. In his second carreer for Belgium (that might be a bit exagerated though), he has done very well, and he surprised many people in his first appearances, in which he showed how good he had become. He made that 'click' in his head that is the difference between remaining a talented prodigy and becoming a star.

I remember a game from Belgium a few months ago, that quite a few posters from redcafe (United forums) where watching, because Eden Hazard was playing and we were heavily linked with him then. But it wasn't Hazard that caught the eye of the Unitedfans, it was Mirallas (or Meirelles as they thought his name was) who they noticed, because he was the better performer in that game, much to everyone's surprise because most had never heard of him.

To conclude, I congratulate Everton for signing him, as I believe you have found yourselves an exciting player for a very very good price. You can never be certain if someone will make it at a new club in a new league, but I believe he has all the attributes (both the qualities and talent as a player, as the right mindset) to be a success for your team.

Oh, if someone was wondering about his position on the pitch... he started his carreer as a striker, but he can play and often plays from the wing nowadays. He can play both from the right and left wing, and he can use either feet. In my opinion playing from the wing is what he does best. For Everton, I think he'll play from the right wing.

Hope it sheds some light on your new signing.. ;)

Ok, now I can go back to prepare myself for tonights game. I think it will be a close one, with nearly all our centre backs injured. :s

Have a good season, Toffees! But not tonight just yet.. ;)

Hi and thanks for the thoughts.

I hope you enjoy the season, but tonight you will have to put your trophy campaign on hold for 90 minutes (+ the 6 Fergie will insist on ).

Don't diss City. I'm A Citizen. And a Chelsea fan, an Everton fan, a Fulham fan and a Sunderland fan. Diss United. Funny how Manures say that Man City buy the title and are therefore gloryhunters.

Man Utd happens to have way more titles, so far for the gloryhunter story. Moreover THEY are now trying to buy the title back :D
