EvertonianFL got a reaction from markjazzbassist in A Short Essay on Why an American loves Everton
As a fellow Yank myself, I can attest to all of these reasons for being an Everton supporter. I get a guilty pleasure in going to bars on game days and ridiculing "bandwagon" Man Utd, Chelsea, City, Barca and Real Madrid fans. I often quiz them on the Starting 11, managers, and league position...not surprised these "diehard" fans don't know the answers to these simple questions.

This is a brilliant signing!! Not often you can get a Barca acacdemy prospect who's shown flashes at that cost. Glad to see he's back and welcome home mate!! Though he didn't play in many games last year, Gerry had 5 assists for Sevilla, which was just one short of their leader (Carlos Bacca with 6). Massively excited to see Deulo tear down the right flank and streak past miserably slow defenders like Mertesacker and Terry. Bit sad seeing as we probably won't bring Lennon back in, but who knows? Maybe RM using Gerry signing to get Lennon for less than ridiculous 7mill Spurs want

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Kant in James McCarthy
McCarthy is one of our most important players (if not the most important). According to my math...he appeared in 37 games for us this season (111 total points possible. 57 points recorded). He was absent for 14 games due to injury (42 total points possible. 12 points recorded). Obviously, there are many other factors that influence our results, but clearly we are a better team with McCarthy on the pitch (dropped 48.6% of possible points with him on the pitch vs. 71.4% points dropped of possible points with him off the pitch).

He deserves whatever he's asking for...clearly a natural born leader who will one day captain the side should he stay here long enough. Excited to see him and TC partnered together in the midfield. Dear God, just anyone but f'ing Gareth Barry

Not a chance. Schurrle is worth to much. Teams are lining up 20 mill+ bids for him. He is a proven talent who just won a World Cup (and played 244 minutes too, so no bench warmer). Atsu is younger and thus far has only proven his talent at the international level for Ghana.

I've always liked Lennon for his incredible pace, but i don't think he would necessarily fit in. As many people have said, he can't put a ball in the box for his life...not that Rom is adept at going up and getting them anyways. His pace down the flank would be well served however. He would just need to play the ball back for Coleman to ping one in the box.

I feel as if he could learn how to cross the ball while running with alot of extra practice time on the pitch. You can't teach pace. But certainly not worth 7 mill

Besic and Lukaku looking best for us right now. Everyone else pretty poor. Referee certainly isn't helping

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Toffee_in_LA in Has Martinez got it wrong?
I didn't realize when I started supporting Everton in 2007 that the fans are so negative. I agree that we are not playing up to the standards set by RM last season. We also weren't playing midweek matches in Europe, and our tactics worked against most teams. Problem, is we haven't evolved much since last season. Same tiki taka style of play, but good teams (and even some poor ones) have countered by pressing high up the pitch and forcing the long ball over the top. I love Mirallas, but if he could ever make a run behind the center backs without going offside, we would have another tactical strategy.

That being said, we traveled to Tottenham on Sunday, then off to Germany for a Thursday game, then back home against Hull 3 days later. In the United States, we refer to the Hull match as a "trap game". A much better team in a good run of form (until Tottenham loss) losing (or in our case drawing...which felt like a loss) to a weaker team in a poor run of form.

I think having Ross Barkley get somewhat seriously injured on the eve of the 1st game of the season really threw the entire squad off mentally, and it showed with those 2 horrendous draws to Leicester and Arsenal.

All-in-all, we won the Europa League "Group of Death" with one game to spare. At the start of the season, if someone told you that would be the case, who would believe it....honestly? That ought to be a massive achievement for a club that bombed out last time we were in a European competition.

I agree though about playing the wrong players/those not in form...why hasn't RM played Atsu more. Kid is lightning quick down the wing, and showed off his skills during the World Cup. Surely he could be a boost for us...most certainly better than playing Pienaar, or Osman out wide.

We arguably have a top 5 goalkeeper in the world, some were saying even Top 3 after the World Cup, but maybe he should focus on stopping shots instead of writing his autobiography...because he hasn't been in good form (other than Europa League).

Lastly, I understand the need for urgency, especially when the League table is basically up for grabs (not the title...Chelsea should have that bagged by now). This would be the season to try and qualify for the Champions League. BUT, we are going to do it via the Europa League clearly, because short of signing a couple more squad players in January, we are not going to be anywhere near the Top 4 come May. Injuries have certainly hampered the first half of our season, but theres a long way to go.

SO FOR ONCE...try to be positive you Blues. At least we don't support the Kop shite or a perennial loser like Sunderland or Birmingham. Let's come back to this discussion at the end of the season...none of it means a damn at this point.

If we are taking straight from United, who would you want?

I'd go with Welbeck or Chicharito, but I think we will be priced out of Hernandez unfortunately. Reminds me a little bit of Tim Cahill, with his in the box finishing ability.

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Sibdane in US Gun Laws
For real? Burglaries are rare in the US? According to the FBI Crime Statistics from 2009, there were just under 2.2 MILLION burglaries in the US. http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/offenses/property_crime/burglary.html

I live in the USA, and the gun laws (or lack thereof) are absurd. I understand where you are coming from with hunting as a pastime, but surely one does not need a military-grade assault to kill a fucking deer. Rifles work just fine. Also, with 40% of the total population living on the coasts, they are hardly likely to encounter bears, coyotes and rattlesnakes. And even if they did, again military assault rifles are not needed (perhaps for the bear...but a well placed rifle shot would do the trick).

I am not against the public owning guns, but I am certainly against them having access to military grade weapons. There is absolutely no need for it, and here we refer to it as "overcompensating". It's like how some Americans have huge, lifted pickup trucks. "Overcompensating for something else of theirs that is small" ie. genitals, IQ, common sense...etc.

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Sibdane in Martinez won't last the season
Are you referring to McCarthy as a star signing? Is that because of his transfer price? I think he did a fantastic job tactically in naming the team. Jela put in a hard 65 minutes against Chelsea, providing the assist to Naisy...fully deserved to get the start against West Ham. And you know what, he was irrelevant so Martinez did what Moyes never would do...take an ineffective player off at the half. And so on comes Lukaku, who completely changed the game for us. I'm sure we will be seeing much of him in the starting 11 this season. It is bittersweet though, as he will be going back to Chelsea at the end of the term.

With Naisy being the difference against Chelsea, he deserved to start as well. And when he didn't show up, he was swapped out. Well played by Martinez, and special thanks to Leighton Baines and his free kick class. Hope Roy Hodgson was taking note. England doesn't have another left-footed player with the set-piece capability Baines has. Gives an alternative to Rooneys right footed free kicks.

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Sibdane in Oviedo vs. The US
I watched that dreadful match for the U.S. Though Oviedo looked bright down the left flank, I feel that it was a bit of an illusion. For whatever reason, Jurgen Klinsmann had Michael Orozco, a center back playing right back. He is neither fast, nor agile, so it should be no surprise that Oviedo ran past him again and again. That being said, the lad still has to make that final pass...which he did pretty well.

Overall, USA looked shite...especially Timmy Howard. Wouldn't be surprised to see Nick Rimando in goal next international break if Howard can't get it together at the club and international level.

Was a bit surprised myself. At the time, he was one of our more "prolific" goalscorers, notching a whopping 8 in the league in 34 appearances, and 10 in all competitions. Thinking Mirallas is gonna be our best shot at a consistent goalscorer this year.

I was in NYC last month visiting some friends and we stumbled into a bar around 3 AM for a last beer, and the entire bar was adorned with Everton scarves, pennants, flags and kits. Turns out we just happened to stumble into the NYC Everton Supporter's bar. Sheer coincidence and none of my friends understood why I was so happy. Loving the Premier League subway cars, just wish i could have seen one last month...might have "broken the seal" on the liverpool car

EvertonianFL got a reaction from Sibdane in Which players should leave during this transfer window?
There is no way we get over 10 million for an out-of-form Jelavic. 6-8 mill is more likely. At that price, I say hang on to him at least until next transfer window. Give him a chance to prove himself against Kone and Anichebe.

We need to offload Heitinga because of his wages and lack of playing time (Duffy is a suitable back-up CB), and get rid of Naismith. Sorry naisy, but you have yet to show us anything worthwhile.
