We need a young centre mid ready to step in but very much squad for now but we also need a more experienced Brownhill/ Harrison Reed (names mentioned and realistic) type who can do a job straight away. Having Doucoure AND Gueye out has stretched us too far. Gomes’ return is encouraging but we’re still short in central midfield - the Wolves game is the stand-out but not being able to make the changes in Fulham, Spurs and Man C game resulted in defeats.

I guess Lyon/Villarreal would have to buy out or compensate the remaining 6months of the loan deal. There’ll be a way to sort it if all parties are willing.

I genuinely can’t pick one today - that was so so poor. We looked leggy. The system didn’t work. We’ve done so well over the past month but our squad has been totally exposed on today’s evidence - could bench/squad players of had more time to ‘keep things fresh’? We were saying that (staying fit) about DCL until this season… maybe Dyche has managed Gomes back to full fitness and not just thrown him back in. Clean slate in my opinion - Doucoure wouldn’t be such a big miss if there’s more to come from Gomes.

Keane and Godfrey were both excellent and I’m very happy for them. That said, I thought Tarky was a powerhouse and kept the whole team organised and focused. Fantastic leadership from him tonight. 

He's given us our Everton back, he really has.

Comfortably his best game this season. Even if he hadn’t scored that cracker I’d have been praising his performance because I thought he was fantastic tbh.

I don’t think there’s a big move for him… Man U, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal have all brought new keepers this season - Man C, Liverpool, Villa don’t need him - Newcastle is just a no go for him. I don’t see him going abroad so, as long as we’re in this league, I don’t see him going anywhere. Last summer was the time to go if he was with 4 of the Sky 6 bringing in new ‘number 1s’.

There’s a lot of noise about how poor United are but they’ve actually won the most points in the league in their past 5 (or 6) and are still right up there. They’ve obviously spent loads and are massively underachieving but actually it’s being massively overhyped in the media.

100% agree - been our best player this season but had a stinker yesterday - 2 clear pens in my opinion. Thankfully, apart from whatever he was doing on their second goal, Tarkowski had an excellent game and, although he didn’t have a lot to do, Pickford was quick to cut out danger.

I thought he was very poor today.
Maybe still feeling the effects of whatever the knock was that he had?

Our signings in the 2019-20 season are really interesting…
Iwobi - decent enough but never really hit the heights many expected - lost a few £mil but not a bad signing
Kean - massive let down on the face of it but made a decent profit when sale and loan fees are considered
Gomes - the moment Gueye left, we should have had a rethink… we didn’t and Gomes had that awful injury and the rest is history - great loan but poor signing
Delph - should have been our new Gareth Barry but couldn’t get him on the pitch - waste of time overall - could/should have been a shrewd signing
Sidibe - on-loan but to be fair, decent full-back cover
Branthwaite - hopefully the shining light on this period of mismanagement and erratic spending!!!

We need to keep and add competition. Another player who can do what Doucoure does would be huge in my opinion.

If Twitter is anything to go by then there'll be a lot of fucking whingeing going on in here but there'll be none of that from me about today.
It's obviously disappointing to lose a game we lead for so long but I'm happy with how we applied ourselves, how committed every single player was, how disciplined they were to stick to the game plan and stay in shape for the most part. I'm proud of those players (even Ashley Young) and how they went about things. Again, I think Dyche got the tactics right - Brighton will always dominate the ball so you've got to come up with a game plan to combat that and it doesn't involve trying to get on the ball more really. What you have to do is stay solid while they have it and then when you do have it use it well. We did that and but for a deflection we get the three points.
First half I thought we were pretty much perfect. Got ourselves an early goal and then shut them down. For all the possession they had I felt very, very comfortable. I'm a critic of Young and I was terrified about what Mitoma would do to him but between him and Harrison they kept him very quiet. How they did that was to stay close to him and not give him the opportunity to get on a run and build up momentum - if he'd managed to do that then he'd have had Young on toast.
Second half things were a bit more ropey for us I must admit, but we still weren't under siege or anything like that. We still frustrated them and kept them at arms length. Young was starting to look more vulnerable to Mitoma as the half wore on and I would have got him off and brought Patterson on. At the same time, though, I can understand why he didn't do it because Dyche will have had to weigh up whether it was riskier to leave a player on that was handling Mitoma but tiring or bring on an inexperienced player and rely on him to come on and be able to handle him. That being said, the goal didn't come because Young was tired and was destroyed by Mitoma so I find it difficult to put any sort of blame on Dyche or Young.
Brighton absolutely twatted us in this fixture last season and I left the stadium utterly deflated. This time around I feel unlucky to be leaving Goodison with only a point but still see it as a point gained because Brighton are a very good side despite their recent form.
Please do stop going on about the mid-week cup game and saying we should've rested players. Remind me what happened when we did last season against Bournemouth... oh yes, building confidence and any sort of momentum went right out the window, we put in a shite performance, lost, and then took that fucked confidence into the league game after it and lost that against them too. A relegation rival. This time, we played a strong side, won, built momentum and confidence and took both of those things into todays game which allowed us to take a point off a quality outfit.

If we can get him back to anywhere near the player he was there is definitely a place in this side for him. I would love to see him in the Doucoure role just behind DCL

I keep thinking back to the Palace game when he came on to turn the game and keep us up, that was a tantalising glimpse of what the real Dele Alli can do for us and would love to see more of it
