pete0 reacted in John Heitinga
I love Johnny even now. His passion and professionalism is exceptional and he is he one of the few players these days that actually cares about the fans. Will be sad to see him go but will follow his career until he retires as I believe he is a top bloke.

Now there's a surprise... Not!
Spurs kids are bigged up and they are so underwhelming!

pete0 reacted to Peter H in Who will likely be in our first team squad?
I could see this, I could also see Mirallas switching to the left and Deulofeu on the right with Pienaar on the bench.

pete0 reacted to Visiting Citizen in Gareth Barry
Hi guys, City fan in peace.
I hope this is the right place to post this but just wanted to let you know if the Barry deal does go through, which it looks like it will, you've signed one of my favourite ever City players. He's been instrumental in our development over the past few years and I'm gutted he's gone.
The majority of non-City and Villa fans in England think he's poor because of the England v Germany game at the 2010 World Cup when Mezut Ozil outpaced him and sealed the win for the Germans. However, the fact Capello insisted on taking Barry to South Africa despite the fact he was only half-fit should tell you everything you need to know.
He's never been the fastest player but he makes up for it with intelligence. His positioning and reading of the game are up there with the very best and he's got the stamina, work-rate and strength to ensure he performs exceptionally in the holding midfield role. His passing is good without being spectacular, he'll look to keep possession first and foremost but he always tries to move the ball quickly and give it to the players he knows can cause damage to the opposition. I truly believe he's a fantastic player and whilst his best days are probably behind him he will still be a valuable addition to your side.
I'll end with a quote that a Villa fan posted on the City forum I use shortly after we signed him in 2009:
When you first see Barry play you may wonder what all the fuss is about, but when he's out of the team, you'll know what all the fuss is about.
He's the oil that makes the engine run smoothly and it's worth adding that in the 2011/12 season, the year we won the league, David Silva, amongst others, voted for Gareth Barry as player of the year. I fear he'll be sorely missed and wish him and Everton the best of luck for the rest of the season.

pete0 reacted to Quinn31 in Marouane Fellaini
Moyes' antics have been a bit ridiculous, mostly the comments he's made to the press. I don't think anyone could be mad at Fellaini though, even if he goes. He's played for us, he hasn't run his mouth in the media, and he hasn't refused to train or made any drama about a move. He's handled himself like a professional.

Andy Nicholls (scally) - seems well sourced and has stated that we are clsoe to signing McCarthy and that Kenwright is refusing to talk to Moyes directly - holding out for exact price united were quoted at last - not a penny less.
Well done Bill.... Hell hath no fury like a chairman scorned eh.

pete0 reacted to MikeO in What Grinds Your Gears...
Exactly....have no problem with him at all in this personally; really enjoyed his time at the club and I'm pretty sure he's the kind of guy that won't celebrate if/when he scores against us in the future. Good luck to him (though not his club) assuming it goes through.
Burning wigs/slagging him off = infantile imo.

Doubt it, RM didn't take that many to Wigan. Plus Liverpool have already bought them all.

Cheers buddy.
A good site I've come across actually shows that Barkley has taken most shots on average per game for us...4.3 shots per game. Which is really surprising as we are all singing his praises yet lambasting Jelavic, Kone and Mirallas for wasting chances...as I have said, all is not as it seems due to our own prejudice. However, its likely he is hitting them more from a distance, whereas Jelly maybe missing chances we view as 'being on a plate'.
I have an app on my phone...'Football App'...every league, player, club in the world.
There is also a great website...whoscored.com...brilliant stats on all sorts in world football.
Gotta be honest, until this weekend I hadnt been bothered, but it really irks me that people say things without substance...not just in football, but in general...its just lazy and an easy get out to say the same old same.
Some other things to think about now that a load of leagues have kicked off.....
9th in Europe for shots per game,
6th for possession,
12th pass success,
And impressively, we are 1st with least amount of shots against.
Good stuff.

Bale is only good against poor sides. Only has a decent record against Arsenal probably helped by it being the most open game in the Prem.
v Man U 11 games 3 assists 1 goal.
v Man City 8 games 1 assist 2 goals.
v Chelsea 8 games 1 assist 2 goals.
v Arsenal 10 games 1 assist 5 goals.
v Everton 9 games 1 assist 0 goals.
v Liverpool 9 games 3 assists 1 goal 2 own-goals.
v WBA 9 games 2 assists 1 goal.

Unless one is a goal keeper, the early twenties are when a player needs to find their level and play regularly.

Loved him for that though....glad he had a couple of moments for us.

pete0 reacted to Quinn31 in Apostolos Vellios
He should either be given a chance, or sold/loaned out. He's too old to be a reserve team player. Either give him a shot since Kone and Jelavic have been woeful, or let him advance his career elsewhere.

Surprised how well they're doing without Arteta, thought Spurs midfield would have dominated.
