Cake
I think the way England are passing the ball slowly from side to side and then backwards with an air of "'av it" is quite magnificent and is a lesson to all nations as to how to bamboozle a world footballing power like Slovenia. MikeO
An aside. Why do Slovenia's shirts look like string vests on the bottom half? Awful.
johnh
I think that is the worst England performance ever. Whoops, forgot about Iceland.
MikeO
We are dross. Extremely lucky to get a point. Had many lows since around 1970 but our current situation is the worst I've seen. Joe Hart saved us and we made no serious chances at the the pointy end, embarrassing.
Bailey
That midfield 3 for Slovenia were excellent. Really disciplined, aggressive and knew their job. You compare that to our midfield 3 who have twice as much talent but look like they didn't know what they were there to do. Everyone they got the ball they looked forward and quickly. Everytime ours got the ball they slowed the ball down and passed sideways. At one point Henderson won the ball back in midfield with a counter attack on but instead he played a slow pass to Danny Rose behind him instead of carrying the ball or playing it forward. Until our mentality changes we will always struggle to beat defensive teams. Romey 1878 and MikeO
johnh
Every time an England player receives a pass - he is standing still. Everything is too slow. You never see any quick 'one-two's' on the edge of the opposition penalty area. England have this built-in mindset that when you get the ball your first instinct is to look sideways or backwards. Lowensda
We play "where's Steve?". My England contact. Got some screen time last night, tending to Hart. Most coverage since the World Cup when the old physio broke his ankle and Kempy took his job Edited October 12, 2016 by Lowensda
MC11
Rooney should still be in the side as the 10.

johnh
Barkley can have no complaints based on his form for Everton. Can't believe that Wilshire is in, he's not even considered good enough for the Arsenal squad. rubecula, Lowensda, Matt and 1 other
Division
If Southgate is being judged on his results over the next 2 or 3 games he got shafted (Spain & Germany). On the other hand the players may really want him to get the job and it might improve their performances. I'm not sure a top quality club manager is automatically suited to being an international manager so I would rule out some of the more obvious choices on those grounds. I have no idea why Wenger is being touted, has he ever expressed any interest in the job?

Bailey
It really is a diabolical England squad... Cresswell, Keane, Antonio... Keane only gets picked because he is playing well in a defensive team that holds its shape with plenty of bodies around him. As soon as he has to play in an attacking team he will get found out. If I was manager I doubt I could find 20 players let alone the 25 Southgate has picked!
Romey 1878
Literally not arsed you know. I actually don't know the full squad as I haven't looked at the list. I only knew Jags was in the day after the squad was named and that was only because of the article on the Echo website.
johnh
In the Telegraph Sport today Gareth Southgate is quoted: I don't encourage cheating, at all, or diving. But there are moments in games when you have got to smell what the right thing is.' Now we know why he's selected Sturridge.
Palfy
If Scotland beat us that will finish the week off quite nicely on the what can go wrong will go wrong scenario Naismith double Jags own goal iceing on the cake as well what a fucking week if your politics are center to left and your an Evertonian priceless
Palfy
England lucky to go in 1-0 at halftime poor finishing from Scotland keeps us in the game they should be well in front
johnh
Half-time England 1 Scotland 0. This is the most ordinary England team for many years. Rooney is past it. The defence is a joke at times trying to pass or dribble their way out of the penalty area.

Palfy
They should take Henderson off and stick Stones in the middle he'd to better job and Cahill and Hart will be a lot happier
MikeO
Two great chances for Scotland at the start of the second half and then we make it two. Daylight robbery; quite embarrassed really, Scotland by far the better team.
johnh
Scotland had the better chances throughout the game. All England's goals came from set-piece headers. England never looked like scoring from open play. Sterling is a waste of a shirt. Every time he goes on a dribble he loses the ball.
Hafnia
I had 8/1 on England scoring 4 goals or more. If we didn't dick about trying to look good for the last 20 minutes we could have scored a few more.

Hafnia
Wish I'd been a fly on the wall . Swear words galore. Aside from that....where is our ruthlessness? Cornish Steve
England doing what England do best: snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. (Well, a draw, but it was quite a spectacular collapse.)
