guster73
Hi, I've been a casual follower of Everton's fortunes for a while, and want to support them further this year. I was pretty out of the loop last season since I was at uni and couldn't watch games on TV, so I'm curious as to what exactly went wrong for Everton last season? Thanks. Cornish Steve
More than anything, the demands of the Europa. Add to that a terrible preseason, some very unlucky injuries, players like Barkley losing confidence, and that explains not being in the top 5 or 6. Eto'o was a trouble-maker. Mirallas acts as if he doesn't care. And then there's second-year syndrome for RM. IMO, he was trying to be too cautious, which is not his character. He needs to go with his instincts. With the signings made so far, I can see a very different team and attitude this coming season.
Romey 1878
We were a bit shit at defending and attacking. Not the best of combinations.
Lowensda
Slow paced 'possession' based football. Inept substitutions. Key players NOT playing up to their expected standards. Consistency to play players who weren't performing or just generally out of form. Rotating players for vital games, when the team the game before were fantastic and subsequently failing. Fitness levels not being up to scratch. Overly positive manager, refusing to amend tactics based on performances. Other than that. It was great And welcome. captainbeaker
I put it down to Europa league and the world cup, too many players in a relatively small squad didn't have a proper preseason.

Lions share fell on Martinez for me. It wasn't one bit exciting watching a Everton last season. Edited July 1, 2015 by MC11

milesey05
- other teams worked out how to play us from the season before - having no plan B pretty much fucks up the above - Martinez insisting having 85 pct possession in your own half is okay - playing players out of position far too often - playing Barry far too often - Leaving subs far too late ( esp with Ossie , Barry treading water ) - Players not being fit enough at start of season ( Martinez was all about ball work ) - Howard thinking he was JC after the World Cup Not blaming the europa one bit. Players should be able to play Thursday and Sunday. We all want champions league so no different from playing Wednesday and Saturday. Hoof_It_Nev
I'm bored so here we go: Between 18th September (our first Europa match v Wolfsburg) and 19th March (our last Europa match v Dynamo Kiev) we have earned an average of 1.07 points per Prem match. Outside of this period (before and after Europa & cups) we have earned an average of 1.64 points per match. 1.64 points per match so far would see us 3 points off 5th place. Is it a coincidence that since bombing out of Europa we have suddenly found form - WWDW? I kow the opposition hasn't been of the highest standard in recent fixtures but we were getting turned over by the likes of Stoke and Hull earlier on in the season. Food for thought? Maybe missing out on Europa next season will be a blessing?
Romey 1878
We had a break from Europa games from the 11th December til 19th of Feb and our form in that time was - WLLLLLDDWDL. I'm sorry, but anyone using the Europa as an excuse is searching for a scapegoat. We were just shit last season. markjazzbassist
Romey 1878
One of those losses may not have actually taken place in the sequence as I think it may have been a rearranged game that took place later. But I'm just looking at my fixture card that can't account for that.

markjazzbassist
Does this Singapore cup count? LOL, nope. I'm saying league cup or FA cup is ours. I am wiling to be vaulted and consequently made fun of if we don't win. I will get the small reward of bragging rights, should we win. Also i will be happy cause we won, that too. We were shite all season , before , during and after the Europa League It doesn't account for a fall of 6 places, but it definitely accounts for three of them. You can't argue with real data and regression analysis. https://www.bsports.com/statsinsights/football/europa-league-hurt-premier-league-clubs#.VZW_vOeaSLp
