We need to look at how we coach the defence (I'm assuming we do coach them in the art of defence) and maybe get a Moyes type character back as a specialist defensive coach.

At the moment our defence is a keeper who is past it and a back four who are gradually having the confidence in themselves and each other drained away. It must be soul destroying for our forwards to know that we don't know how to protect a lead.

The most disappointing thing is that we are wasting an incredible season by Romelu and a very good season by Geri. We aren't giving those guys a reason to stick around.

This is a major worry. Who could blame Rom, Geri, Ross and Stones for wanting to get away from a set up that is wasting their talent? Stones didn't have a great game but how much of that is down to a lack of confidence in Martinez' tactics?

I think it may already be too late. Worst case scenario is we accept big money for them, narrowly avoid relegation, sack Martinez and start all over again next season. This squad deserves more than that, but I no longer have confidence in Martinez to deliver it.

Any bets we accept a £50 mill bid for Rom in Jan? If Man U get Mourinho I would bet my left testicle on him coming in for Rom and Stones. And if I was them, I would go.

It's not so bad, at least then we can go out and buy Jamie Vardy. Hurrah!

Why would Vardy want to come to Everton? If he moves it will be to a Champions League team. We aren't and won't be for a long time.

Another 14 points and we are safe from relegation. That is the realistic target now.

Pissed off before, during and course after the game.

We will have a couple of good results and everyone will be saying Martinez is the man again.... Not me.

I'm more worried that if we do get into the cup final then Martinez will definitely be in charge next season.

Those cracks will be covered over as most of you will see a cup final as a successful season.

The past season and a half Martinez has continued to baffle us with his selections/ substitutions, tactics and just general lack of knowledge of the football basics.

I am the worst for my negative attitude on here before a ball has been kicked most of the time. Maybe if we had a squad of the 90's I would admit I was being harsh. It's the fact that we have such brilliant players here at the moment who seem to be letting us down week after week that I don't think I'm being harsh.

I really think that with a better manager we would be sitting In the top 4 spaces right now. I'm over today already as we are a mid table team under Martinez.

As I said that Semi final cup fixture is saving him right now.

I was being sarcastic, Rusty! Vardy is nowhere near as good as Rom anyway. It'd be a serious downgrade. My post was to highlight the ludicrousness of it.

Yeah, I realised that. But as you rightly say. It's ludicrous. Vardy isn't anywhere near the player Rom is and Vardy still wouldn't touch Everton with a barge pole if he has any sense.

Spurs are going to be right in the mix all the way to the end of the season. They are a good team. Palace will also be a good bet for top six. And Stoke deserve to be where they are too.

If we had turned draws with Watford, Norwich, Bournemouth and Palace into wins and beaten Leicester and Stoke (which we should have) then we would be top of the league. And it is all down to Roberto and his bloody philosophy. He has stretched my patience to snapping point.

So we're sat here with one win in the last 6 matches. In the five matches we didn't win, we led three of them (Bournemouth twice, Norwich and Stoke), whilst against Palace we were utterly dominant and ended up scraping a draw. As Roberto would say, it is phenomenal and incredible that we have one win from these matches when we could conceivably have had all of them. Anyway, focusing on today...

Tim Howard - appears to have totally lost it. His interaction with the Gwladys end after flapping at a ball was worrying, even if I think the fans are ridiculous for sarcastically cheering him for clapping the ball. He needs a few games on the sideline because he's struggling. He doesn't need booing off, he doesn't need to be exiled to the MLS, he's a first team player who's out of form, he just needs a break. Please tell me I'm not mad on this next bit because I'm getting dogs abuse for saying this on Reddit - but Tim was really poorly at fault for their equaliser. If the goalkeeper comes off his line and misses the ball like he did, it leaves an open net for the opposition which Stoke duly exploited for their third goal. I thought this was an obvious criticism so thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Seamus Coleman - tenacious but increasingly seems to be exploited defensively. He offers something going forward as an extra pass but little more these days. I'm not really sure where his best has gone - I'm not saying he's been poor but he could do with some competition.

Brendan Galloway - looked good as always in one to one battles but their first two goals both came about by him letting Shaqiri get on the wrong side of him. Obviously Baines was rotated out today because Brendan has had a good season with some mistakes, I'd like to see how he could get on in his actual position of center half though now is clearly not the time to take that chance.

John Stones - Unlucky with the penalty but was extremely poor today with his distribution and mindlessly ran wildly out of position for their first goal which I thought was schoolboy defending. He could do with some time off as well and in the long run needs to be playing alongside an experienced defender. He and Funes Mori have not looked at all reliable together.

Ramiro Funes Mori - Looks a good player but like I say, him and Stones don't work together. He needs to be settling into this league alongside an experienced Premiership defender. Maybe we let Distin go a season early? Probably not but we could do with a calm, experienced center back for when Jags is out.

Gareth Barry - had a quiet game but I thought he played fairly well.

James McCarthy - great assist, it was mentioned on my stream for those criticising Roberto for playing a "clearly injured" McCarthy, that today's injury was a groin strain, unrelated to the previous hip injury.

Tom Cleverley - also got a great assist, I was a bit confused about why he came off, hopefully he doesn't have another injury. Looks like we've signed a good squad player here at least.

Ross Barkley - had a quiet game but I thought he played well and showed his attacking qualities as well as a solid job in a deeper role for the last 20 minutes or so. I think a lot of people still expect a bit too much of him, for him to run games every week, he's not quite at that stage yet.

Steven Naismith - got himself into one good position and worked hard as always but had a limited impact on the game overall.

Arouna Kone - His hold up play is excellent, he links up well, but recently he's been shitting the bed in the final third. A good player to have on the pitch in a neutral situation or one where we're looking to close a game out by keeping the ball and killing the tempo. He's shown his worth this season as a first team player but this doesn't mean he has to start every match or stay on for 90 minutes when a bit more blood and thunder in the shape of Lennon or Mirallas would suit us better.

Gerard Deulofeu - Decent effort, couldn't miss his goal but you have to get in the right positions so credit there. I do like how he can hit the ball in such a way that his cross beats his man for him (if that makes sense?) but I'd also like to see him run at his full back as much as he used to as well rather than relying too much on the early cross.

Romelu Lukaku - He's been everything we've wanted him to be this season, a fantastic goalscoring return and much better all round. He's busting a gut for the team as well at one stage winning the ball today in the right back position. Hopefully the rest of the team can start to follow suit sooner rather than later because he'll be gone in the summer if we can't give him a reason to stay.

Onto the next one I suppose....

Agree with every word. Howard complete disaster. Coleman not providing enough in attack to compensate for his failures defensively. Stones in a rough patch without Jags. Galloway still learning. Barry invisible in a good way. Clev/McCarthy shame they got hurt. Barkley expectations too high, good player right now nothing more. Kone should be coming on after 70mins to settle the game and hold the lead for final 20, great hold up and in possession. Deulofeu work rate there this year along with the talent. Lukaku IMMENSE.

RM has to sit Tim Howard. The defense is playing without any confidence and some of that stems from Howard being so in net. I hope Jags gets back soon to stabilize things. But sit Howard for the next two matches and lets see what Joel has got. Do we have a youth keeper we could look at as well? (I'm not really all that sold on Joel. If he takes over the #1, we'll be bitching about him in 3 weeks.)

Going forward we are up there with the best in the league no doubt. I think it was a shit call for a penno today but what can u expect off that hair weaving prick? I thought he was banned reffing us? Regardless of that we've been shit at the back all season. Only one man responsible. Get a fucking goalie that commands his six yard box. And get a defensive coach in. Fuck me I love stones and Mori and the rest but we need a horrible cunt like shawcross

I was overjoyed at the goal against the barcodes and the result but was a little saddened by Newcastle's after match faces, they were clearly also saddened and amazed that they lost.

Move forward to today..... great game to watch...edge of seat stuff and we clearly had done enough to win, but it wasn't to be. Real role reversal from the Newc, game. Did't see the lad's faces at the end....were they as gutted as I felt?

On another note, FFS we need to get Robles out there! Is RM screwing Tim on the side or something?

Nail on the head. Still fuming here again this morning. Howard needs to fuck off or pick an injury, I am DONE with his arrogance and inept ability at defending. The defence needs to get their shit together and soon. This team needs a kick in the teeth. The amount of points we have dropped is fucking nauseating.

Howard hasn't been great. But, the willingness of some fans to blame him for our lack of defensive organization and inability to defend a FK/corner is plain silly. Coaching/tactics have more to do with these issues than Tim flapping at a cross. We've conceded so many goals that he should have never had to watch go into his net because our players can't mark anyone and don't pressure the ball.

Apparently he sarcastically applauded the fans... arrogant sod. The fans have had a belly full of his flapping and peaking goals.

Yes defenders can do more but he's a liability now.
