sounds like we are on the same page here, concentrate of getting the spine of the team in to a decent shape - and maybe then even the attaching players we already have now might be able to do a more respectable job - we are not ready to waste more money upgrade the attacking players to continually feed of scraps or spend the best part of the games defending!!
for Dwight McNeil, I kind of mean if we do bring in attacking players let it be players that are young, talented, hungry to play,  reasonably priced, on a more modest wage, who would feel coming to Everton is a decent step up, but are also easy to offload or load out if they don't cut the mustard after a few year. A bit like we have done in the past with the likes of Lookman, Del boy or Vlasic. Admitted none of these have turned out as regular first teamers, but do this enough, and by the law of average some will end up staying longer and making a name for themselves at the club. It is also pretty difficult to lose massive amounts of money buys of this type of buy (Iwobi may prove me wrong  ) - but generally close to braking even on these types of buys.

I have not posted on here for ages - had to stop as took up to much of my time!!  (still read post though), but find myself with a bit of time on my hands and stuck in front of a laptop.
I remember in 2003 Chelsea paying around £16M for a certain Makélélé, that was a significant sum of money in those days. Makélélé was 30 at the time and had never played in the Premiership. The rest is history, as he was without doubt a key signing in the emergence of a money spending Chelsea. An experienced player in his prime who knew his position and exactly what he was being brought to the club for.
Now I am not going to try and argue that Allan is the next Makélélé (as he basically invented the modern defensive midfielder position!!), but they are players of a similar ilk. experienced in a top league, strong and dogged in the tackle, but has that air of quality and can get away a quality pass  or dribble and with good movement so thus rapidly changing defence in to an offence.
Every transfer is a gamble - If the signing's of Allan for £35M can have anywhere the kind of impact a 30 year old Makélélé did at Chelsea, then has to be a gamble worth taking - even if it only lasts 3 or 4 seasons and helps change the mentally of Everton's midfield - these are the type of key decisions and gambles we are paying a top manager like Ancelloti to make.
Allan can only improve the soft nature of the midfield Ancelloti has inherited, so the only gamble being is Allen of sufficient quality to help take us to the next level over the next two or three seasons.
Allan is not a player for the future, he is very much for the now and god how we need that - Hopefully, he is a player that would massively benefit those players in front of him - he could be the player that becomes a catalyst to actually start seeing the best of those other players we have already shelled out massive transfer fees on. That's what Makelele's biggest impact was at Chelsea - he instantly gave a platform for other to shine. How much value can you actually put on that?
It should also helps that his most likely midfield partner will be Portuguese speaking Gomes.
Finger crossed, as I would like to see him in a blue shirt.

all but Lukaku gone, then Rooney must be in line to be our number one striker this season - perhaps the main man in league games, with others used in cups. We also seem looking to be far more creative - So we should be reasonably optimistic that Rooney could well be best placed to be our top scorer this season - will have far more game time in his best position along with fire in his belly.

A Roy of the Rover return to Everton - being give the freedom again to be the main striker once again - Premier league top scorer - 1/100

He is definitely not a player that you would want to bring in and build a team around, but there would not be many teams in the Premiership that wouldn't benefit from having Wayne Rooney in their squad. He is a player who has played at the very highest level, broke all number of goal scoring records, as captaining Man U and England captain he is one of those 'leader on the pitch' type players, and arguably has an unequalled amount of Premier league and European experience,

I think to a degree he has lost some of his drive and desire at Man Utd over the past 3-4 seasons, since the Sir Alex has retired and the 'glory days' generation squad he was a part of have now all but retired. I think he's gone a bit stale at Man U, with all the changes and lull in success. I think a move and a final chapter to his career would do him good.

I think if anything could put the buzz and desire back in to Rooney for the last two or maybe three of years of his career would be being part of the beginning of this new Everton revolution we are starting to seeing.

Wayne Rooney is the one player would not be coming to Everton as a money grabbing 'one last big payday has been' - he will be taking a notable pay cut. he is a player that would be coming to give everything he has on that football pitch, I have no doubt that just by Rooney putting the Everton shirt back on we will get an extra 10% out of him week in week out. The fact he will want to get backing the England squad for a world cup will only add to motivation.

The one thing missing from Rooney CV is tasting some sort of success with Everton, and I think he would give it his all to try and put that right. We are the only club in the position off possibly getting a re-motivated Rooney in our squad. Given the way he left, he would also return humble and with something to prove - that he is a blue!

I think we would be foolish not to take this sort of unique opportunity, they don't come along very often.

Personally, with a new manager coming in - I would be happy enough if Lukaku goes for £65M and Stones can go as well if we are offered near the £40M mark, add that to the rumoured £100M transfer chest, total squad rebuild over the next couple of seasons - That would pay for 10 No. £20M players! £10- £20M still buys very decent players from over the channel!! we would be getting top dollar for these players, with buyers still paying a premium for 'potential'

No point in having player that don't really want to be here.

New broom sweeps clean for a new regime.

I think I would rather sell early and buy early in this transfer window!! No point in a new manager spending the summer working with players who will be gone by 31st August.

RuffRob got a reaction from barryj in Now Martinez has gone, who should get the nod...
I would like to see Moyes back - as somebody else has mentioned the best we have seen of a Martinez team was based on purely on what Moyes had built and left for him, and nothing at all to do with any thing Martinez has brought to the table. Mix what Moyes had built and the enthusiasm that comes with any new manager, would give you that first 6 months we saw under Martinez. That has been as go at it got - followed by two years moving backwards.

Moyes was always a few quid short of getting the 20 goal a season striker in to his squad, that would have made all the difference in his teams. Martinez has had that striker in his squad for the last two years and still managed to go backwards.

The last few seasons under Moyes we played decent football and probably punched above our financial weight, we are punching below it now. I was personally sorry he went.

I would like to see Moyes given a crack back at the club, with less financial constraints than he had during his first stint. He knows many of the player already.

He was a dead man walking before he walked in to Old Trafford, everybody knows following Sir Alex was a poison chalice. He would have been called a bottler all his career if he didn't take that job when he was offered it, he had to take it really. He's been there and tried that now, and seen the grass isn't greener.

Nothing that wrong with protecting leads once you go ahead in my opinion!! Crying out for some tactic like that now. Winning 1-0 is far better than losing 4-3!!!
