is the keeper positioned incorrectly and baines saw it and nipped it in?  or was it just a gamble and he succeded?  Beautiful goal.  just lovely to watch.

The 'keeper is positioned just fine but his view is blocked by the defender and attacker in the way, meaning that he sees the shot late which, coupled with the fact that it was hit at serious pace means that he never really stood a chance.

When you watch the goal back the ball hits the very corner of the net so even with an outstretched arm and a big dive the ball was always going to go in. A wonderful strike that you just have to applaud really and something that Leighton has always had in his locker.

Was just starting to post something very similar Zoo but you saved me the trouble, agree completely. Two 'keepers wouldn't have saved that.

He's definitely got the "outside of the boot swerve to the left" in his locker, seen it before; free kick against Newcastle for one. 100% intentional for me, no question.

Yep...It is far easier to hit a ball across the path.  Same as golf, club head vs path = spin. Unless path and strike are 100% you will get left or right spin.

Paul Scholes always said he would aim straight and hit hard, 9/10 The momentum of the ball left or right across the foot would give him the curve required to wrong foot the keeper

Yeah of course he was aiming to hit the other corner.... with 3 players directly in that path.

It's amazing.... players like Baines and Gerrard.  People have believed they were pure ball strikers for years. Little did they know that they were lucky....

Why don’t you like us? What did we ever do to upset you so much?

I really don’t get it PeteO.

What you on about? I celebrated his goal regardless if it was in the corner he meant.

I'm happy with what Baines has given the club just don't think he's world class.

I’d be surprised if there’s anyone on here that is suggesting he’s world class 🤷‍♂️ - he’s been a great servant to our club, a role model and leader. On top of that he knows he wasn’t going to get many games this year but as soon as he was needed he’s stepped up yet again.

Just over a minute you can see him go to lace it but slices it. 1:30 you can see him look at the other side to pick his spot. But let me guess he's just giving the keeper the 👀...

Let's be honest Pete, you wouldn't even know.

Most people have absolutely no idea how good the elite ball strikers are.... absolutely none.  Take your better Sunday league player who can hit a ball pretty well and multiply it by a hundred and you may get close.  Ever been up close to someone who strikes a ball properly? I'm not talking 20 ft, I'm talking 4ft.....

I play golf with Jim Harvey - ex Tranmere player quite often.  He was their free kick specialist. He made adjustments based on ball, temperature the lot.  Hit bags and bags of balls at Nixon to the point he could repeat the same kick over and over again and he wasn't at Baines level.

Players at that level don't fluke - the aim for a bin lid sized target and don't stray too far from that.

But hey..... I guess if it was Chris Brunt you would make the rhetoric work eh.

League players are very capable. What separates good players from great players is how often you can do it.

Then why do you feel the need to downplay it? This is what I don’t understand about you.

I was moaning about Sidibe loads e last few weeks, then gave him MoM because he simply deserved it.

You Del to make up your mind about someone, and then fight against anything positive they do. I just don’t get it.

Baines averages less than one goal from open play a season. Very much doubt he's meant to slice it into the near side after checking the far side.

He was at fault for the first goal, we conceded a few chances down his side, yet people give him motm because he fluked a goal. Compare that to Davies who scored a whopper and meant it, talked Holgate through the game (who was needing to drop deeper/safer as he struggled with less time in the ball with the Leicester players breathing down his neck) and in general made the most of what he could even though he had two wingers who couldn't hold onto the ball, an anonymous Brazilian up top, Mina behind him having his worst game for us with Keane next to him scared of the ball. Yet the young local lad helped us rally a draw and held his own against one of the best midfields in the league yet everyone is talking about Baines rolling back the years when all he done was score a hit and hope that he sliced.

Check my motm voting even Michael Keane got a vote from me last year. Credit where it is due.

I was there. He looked like a senior player as he stepped in numerous occasions and cut out passes, made blocks and tackles. Then scored a great goal.

Sometimes it takes a big man to admit he was wrong.

You will never do it, if accepted that. I just don’t understand it, no matter how much you try to make me realise your right haha.

He was at fault for the goal and we consistently more vulnerable on his side. Scoring a whopper doesn't paper over what was mostly an average performance.

More like your too busy knocking them back 😉 drinking and posting doesn’t mix.

When you rad back what you have wrote in the morning when your sober, you’ll be embarrassed.

Only had the one, in the Throstles Nest Hotel and if you've ever been you'll understand why I only had one. What sort of pub sells pint cans of carling.
