Goodison Park / 1892-2025

Recommended Posts

"Behold Goodison Park! No single picture could take in the entire scene the ground presents, it is so magnificently large, for it rivals the greater American baseball pitches. On three sides of the field of play there are tall covered stands, and on the fourth side the ground has been so well banked up with thousands of loads of cinders that a complete view of the game can be had from any portion.

"It appears to be one of the finest and most complete grounds in the kingdom, and it is hoped that the public will liberally support the promoters." The publication 'Out Of Doors', reported in October 1892.

Just a quick response.

My first game 1970, I was 10 we beat Chelsea 5-0, sat in the main stand with my dad, the only game we ever went to together.

fast forward to August 2014, walking past Everton 2, I went in with my 10 year old son, after looking at shirts we went upstairs to see if we get tickets to a game, we got tickets for top balcony upcoming Chelsea game, ooops,  0-2 within minutes, 3-6 full time, had to tell my lad it’s not always this exciting.

Now in our 7th year of ST, it’s going to be very emotional leaving Goodison.

So with the Toffees moving to the new stadium, are they gonna have to change the lyrics of Spirit of the Blues to "So come on, come on, Get down to Bramley-Moore Dock"?

“So come on, come on, get down to the Friedkin gulf states toyota stadium”

Catchy.

Sounds like a second hand car dealership ad with those inflatable wavy arm things

As you walk through them nice new steel gates on the dock wall, there will be rows and rows of inflatable wavy arms to greet you. 😂

One thing I hope stays at Goodison is the toxicity. I'm hoping a new stadium will help people have a fresh mental start, because 15 mins in to the game and all I could hear was frustration and abuse. And I get it, it's rich coming from someone who doesn't get to go week in and week out but it just always tarnishes the occasion for me and I'm convinced it gets into the teams heads.

Ben Foster said on his podcast that teams would actively try and frustrate Everton, as they knew how quickly into the game the crowd could turn. It absolutely infuriated me how negative people would be in the crowd, week in and week out and the same people would be moaning about anything from the formation to the angle of the corner flags.

I've said it before, going to Goodison is a pretty depressing experience. We have amazing fans (looking at you ToffeeTalkers) but I think the main bulk of our fanbase are entitled, moaning bellends.

I’m looking forward to moving away from the potty mouthed bell end who sits near me, I swear like most but he was a constant stream of abuse throughout the second half.

There's a bloke in the Top Balcony that gets on my tits as he tries to have a conversation with the players/officials despite being fucking miles away. It'll go:

"What the fuck was that ey?!"

"...ey?!"

"...thought so yeah, fuck off"

A chap behind me started booing when Holgate was brought on - yes, I agree Holgate is shite but to boo when one of our players is being brought on is a little counterproductive in my opinion. Anyway, I turned round to see a 60(ish) year old, fat, bald bloke (all acceptable attributes before anyone takes offence) wearing a plastic blue bowler hat (not acceptable) - I couldn’t help but chuckle and called it a day soon after as it had peaked!
