his goals last season make it look like he has technical ability in bucket loads. Does seem a bit lazy and I agree, hes not a Martinez type player.

If you're talking about his run of goals during the 2011-12 season it's true that his shooting technique was absolutely exquisite during that period.

Should have specified that by "technically limited" I was referring to his first touch and ability on the ball. He's certainly not the kind to create chances for himself or others.

Which is why playing him on the right wing is a retarded thing to do. Luckily, Alan Pardew will still be Newcastle's manager for another 7 seasons.

Fernando is on medical at Everton!

Wigan have apparently made offer for Jordan Rhodes. #WAFC 4/1 to complete the signing. Everton 6/1 from 25/1

@PortuBall: O Jogo have inside info on that Porto won't sell Fernando. Too bad for Everton. O Jogo's sources at Porto are pretty accurate.

It must be, unless it's to do with the valuation.

Transfer Central TNC @TransferNewsCen 42s

Goal: Everton have tabled a bid for Cagliari defender Davide Astori, in a late attempt to to reinforce his defence.

Roberto Martinez had hoped to be reunited with the Republic of Ireland international he brought to the Premier League in 2009, as a replacement for Manchester United bound Marouane Fellaini.

But negotiations between the Blues and Wigan chairman Dave Whelan are believed to have reached an impasse, with the Latics owner insisting he won’t budge on his £15m valuation for the player.

The ECHO understands that has prompted Everton to switch their focus elsewhere, with a move for Porto midfielder Fernando also being considered but not yet a done deal.

The Brazilian would require a work permit, which would have to be agreed before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

While Martinez has not completely given up on McCarthy, it would require a significant u-turn from Wigan to revive a transfer which has been mooted all summer.

So looks like it is indeed over the valuation

    EVERTON LATEST

Some news from Goodison Park on the horizon...

DISAPPOINTING:

BC Sport's Chief Football Writer Phil McNultyEVERTON LATEST

"I've been told there is "a strong possibility" that Everton striker Victor Anichebe will join West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth around £5m. Everton will need to bring in a striker as a matter of urgency if he leaves.

"As for James McCarthy, Everton have yet to make another firm bid for the Wigan Athletic midfielder since an initial offer, believed to be £7m rising to £10m, was rejected.

"Everton still retain hope of signings Manchester City's Gareth Barry but time is marching on - and still no Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United."
