MikeO
It was like watching a Johnstons Paints Trophy final. England play at walking pace most of the game, always have 11 opposition behind the ball. I think Hodgson considers we play our best football when the back four are passing it backwards and sideways. Doesn't sound like the shed got creosoted John, make sure you do it tomorrow. (Love the smell of creosote, takes me back to when I was a little kid "helping" my dad in the garden)
Bailey
The new dawn for England that was being billed couldnt have really been much further from the truth. I dont think anyone played particularly badly mind you, but other than Sterling and to an extent Baines and Henderson, no one else really made a positive impact. I thought Delph looked solid when he came on mind you. Sturridge looked sharp but made poor decision after poor decision and Rooney wasnt really involved. His movement on the whole was shocking. I like the fact he stayed up top for once but that doesnt mean he has to stand still. The rest were all just distinctly average including Stones who looked like a CB playing RB which isnt exactly a surprise!
MikeO
From the Daily Fail ratings: Leighton Baines - 6 Comfortable display from the Everton left-back, but looked a little lethargic at times. Lethargic? Wasn't his finest ever performance but never that. I don't even think Bainsey knows how to do lethargic.
Romey 1878
Hard to look energetic when everyone in front of you is playing at walking pace. So how do you possibly play fast football on your own?

Romey 1878
Sturridge. That's who Welbeck has replaced isn't it? Ox is missing too. No wonder I forgot about him because he was one of the invisibles.

MikeO
I know it's been said many times before but listening to Tyldesley/Townsend just sucks the will to live out of me.
johnh
Wilshire is a waste of space, needs to be replaced. I've seen Sunday morning pub teams who finish better than England.
Shukes
Wiltshire must be praying Barkley's injury is long term, surely the guy has got to either improve or give up. The lad has gone backwards. Commentators just reminded me he was on the pitch. Edited September 8, 2014 by Shukes
Shukes
Goal by Welbeck, knew we should have brought him.... Top class shinner!
Shukes
Baines always impresses me with his ball retention.. So tidy. Would make a great sweeper.
Romey 1878
Goal by Welbeck, knew we should have brought him.... Top class shinner! He very nearly shinned it wide as well. He'd have been wanting the ground to open up and swallow him if that'd have happened.
Shukes
He would have had to fake an injury and call for a sub haha.
MikeO
Boredom aside, an away win against a side ranked eleven places higher than us would be a decent start to qualifying.

MikeO
Please don't fuck up Jags, need this to be a confidence booster rather than a destroyer.

gethinO
To be fair, Jags did well when he came on. Dealt with everything he had to considering he came on late and was short of confidence after his last game.
johnh
Thank goodness for Welbeck, no one else ever looks like scoring. Rooney is not worth his place. Lowensda
Hafnia
I've said all along, Mark my words, welbeck will change many opinions of him. At United he was like sturridge at Chelsea, never got the central berth to show what he can do.
Guest blueboy122
I've said all along, Mark my words, welbeck will change many opinions of him. At United he was like sturridge at Chelsea, never got the central berth to show what he can do. Cant agree more. Said it myself that he will do a Sturridge and thrive at a club where he plays regular football in his proper position. Still stand by that we should have bought him instead of Lukaku
Hafnia
http://www.footballfancast.com/premiership/arsenal/can-danny-welbeck-do-a-danny-sturridge-at-arsenal IMO he will be a regular 15-20 goal a season striker with plenty of assists. Hafnia
Someone on Red Cafe made an interesting post elsewhere, the longest run as a main striker that Welbeck has at United was 6 games, in those 6 games he scored 6 goals and made 2 assists. Loads of their fans are worried that he is going to come good... pretty entertaining. Some have made very intreresting analytical posts, from open play he averages a goal every 161 minutes even considering his games on the wing and the work he does tracking back. Be an interesting one this, they are comforting themselves that Wilson is gonna be the next Jimmy Greaves. LOL, he's next for the stretford end boo boys.
