Sibdane
Anthony Gordon seems to have a lot of potential. Great shot earlier in the game and a perfect through ball to Simms for the winner.
markjazzbassist
keeper was awful for the goal we let in. fell over after it went past him. it was a shot striaght at the goal and the dude wound up, had all the time in the world. Bailey
Dowell also destroyed teams at that level. Sort him out a good loan deal first and then phase Walcott out if he is good enough to replace him. Sibdane

Btay
Think this set-up deserves some praise. Looking like another 2 players capable of regular first team football on the horizon in the way of Gordon & Branthwaite, along with DCL, Holgate, Davies & Kenny - paints a good picture for up and coming youngsters to come to this club. markjazzbassist

We bought Branthwaite in January. You can't credit the U23 whatsoever for him. Btay and Matt
Shukes
I think it does show that coming to our academy or U23 teams, has an open path to the first team though. Even though Branthwaite wasn’t trained and coached by them, he was brought primarily to start there. Young players watching can see there will be opportunities. markjazzbassist, Matt and Romey 1878

I do agree with that but his post made it seem like the U23 setup has moulded him but they’ll not have had any influence on him. DownUnderToff
This piece suggests (accurately IMO) the opposite, current u23s setup is holding players back for too long. https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com/2020/7/23/21335531/are-everton-misusing-the-under-23s-team-david-unsworth-youngsters-broadhead-baningime-youth Think we need to be a lot better about getting more of our young talent the opportunities to step up. Otherwise it's too small a player pipeline to rely just on the few who, largely through lucky opportunity, can breakthrough directly from our youth games. Branthwaite is a perfect example; if not for already having a shortage in the position and forced by injuries, it might have been years before we saw him in a "competitive" fixture. We've had 4 loan moves across our current u23 squad, 2 of those for players now aged 22. Set more of them the challenge, younger. Might take them a couple of loans as well. Definitely want to see Simms loaned out next year, along with a handful of others (if keeping them). Some of the u18s could/should be looked at soon as well (Onyango in particular). Although getting more of the u23s out quicker would naturally push up u18 players to fill the void.

We hold on to some of these kids for far too long when they're never going to play for us and we end up either only getting buttons for them or nothing at all.
