patto reacted to StevO in Michael Keane
I don’t think Holgate has ever covered for his partner in any game for us. Struggles to look after himself on the pitch, let alone anyone alongside him.
He’s played better than in recent times, wouldn’t say he’s pulled up any trees myself, but he always does when a new manager comes in and then fades away. It’s really strange, but he always does it.
I personally think he’s a liability. He may not always be the one with the errors, but they always seem to happen around him. Like his partners never have a decent game.

patto got a reaction from StevO in Michael Keane
Keane never trained all week before the city game he was ill but still played it we go with a new defence against Wolves it's suicide our last home performances have been decent we can win at home with just a couple of changes.

patto got a reaction from StevO in Armando Broja
Would anyone consider selling DCL now and invest in a new striker I think Doms head has been turned now and won't be bothered if we go down we could actually go for Broja,
That's if the reported fees are true 60m is a fair amount.

Yes options are sparse but that doesn’t mean you just take anyone. That’s how we ended up with the shit stain that is Salomon Rondon. If the right player isn’t available then you don’t bring anyone in.

patto got a reaction from c1982 in Lucas Digne
I expect Digne to prove himself to be as good as any left back in the prem while at Villa.

Benitez has done a great job of turning the fans against Digne hook line and sinker.

I don’t see that happening 2 years ago maybe but not now a good centre back should be our priority

I’d like Colley we need a decent CB with pace and also Barkley on loan if we can’t get another CM

If it does go badly I hope our fans don’t turn on each other as I know we are split on Benitez.
we have to back Benitez we can’t afford to go down that road again plus we have no money to pay people off.

patto reacted to Cornish Steve in Salomón Rondón
I understand the situation is not what we expected, with both DC-L and Richarlison out at the same time, but...
Can you imagine if we'd been told upfront: "We're bringing in a guy as our striker. He's been playing in the lower leagues in recent years and not even played or trained for a few months, but we'll slot him in anyway as our lone striker and give him four or five games to reach the right level of fitness. He's getting on a bit, but we expect him to work out."
Such an approach would rightly be regarded as outrageous. (It's an exaggeration, of course. It's unfair, of course. But it's not so far from the truth of it.) Never before have I seen or heard of a Prem League club using actual game time (70+ minutes per game) as the training ground for a totally unproven and unfit recruit. We just don't have the luxury to do such a thing. Before such a last-ditch scenario, surely we should trust the leading lights in our U-23 squad, or even the U-21 squad. They've proven something and they're hungry and fit.
I'm not saying we write off Rondon. He deserves the chance to prove himself - but only when he's fit enough and hungry enough to contribute. Already I'm sick of seeing that embarrassed grin when he messes up for the umpteenth time.
Let's hope that, against United, he'll prove me completely wrong and I must eat my words.

Can people honestly not see that the club is changing?
Thos isn’t a five minute fix, this is a complete restructure of the club.
We’re getting a different type of players on that are slowly rebuilding a broken squad.
Doucoure, Allan, Gray, Townsend, Godfrey…. These players are more energetic, more harder working than what we have been served up recent seasons.
The new stadium. New advertising strategy.
If people are just wanting us to spend a lot of money on names and hope for the best…. Then just rewind anywhere during the last 15-20 years and have your fill.
Me? I want to stick with the direction we are heading and get behind the club and everyone in it…. And move forward.

patto reacted to Romey 1878 in Aston Villa ( Away ) Saturday 18th September
I'm disappointed we lost the game but I don't think we were as bad as a 3-0 scoreline suggests. I think for a lot of that game we played well, but we simply don't have the squad to cope with that many absences. First choice keeper out, first choice RB out, first choice striker out, first choice supporting striker out... Fucking hell, I'd have been happy with a point today with our full team out if I'm honest, so when we're patched up like that you're fighting a big battle. Under those circumstances I think a little bit of realism is needed. We held our own and caused them problems with a side that had been cobbled together and had pretty much fuck all on the bench to call upon to change things, whereas they had a £30m winger they could bring on. We started the rot with some terrible defending from Digne for their first and then we got blitzed after that, which is a bit of a concern but it's what we did to Burnley the other night so we know shit like that can happen.
I'm certainly not going to sit here and tear strips off the team, or the manager, for what happened today. I just think it was one of those things and hopefully we can bounce back in our next couple of games.

Wow!!
I really don’t like Rafa, never wanted him and still don’t, but he is a much much much better manager than Allardyce.
