I think this particular contrast between perception and reality is known as a Dycheotomy, Steve.

Think that must be a first. Two pages of positive posts. A win against Villa and we'll be talking about top 4. 🙃

We recalled him in January and sent him to France instead.
My guess is we think it'll be better to showcase him there and tempt a French side into taking him permanently in the summer.

Be good if we can get a bit of money in for him in the summer.
It won't be much as he'll only have a year left on his contract but with us penny pinching it'll come in handy.

Totally agree with this. When things are tight and on the line the pressure to do things like that make the truly elite players so valuable.

this is why it’s really important we get a few points breathing space from bottom 3 if possible.  Hopefully then the ability to play with less fear traps more goals.

He said this after the game on MOTD
And it wasn't just bullshit either. I watched him a few times after we didn't convert a chance we'd carved out and he was making sure the players seen him applauding the effort.

Dyche has made a fairly big call in leaving Gray out of the starting line and you have to say overall the 'team' has been better off from it.
He is using McNeil so much better than Lampard. I would love to see the DCL that Ancelotti had in this team.

Well I’m looking forward to it. Can’t wait to see the boys again!
    Will be my usual day.
Drive for an hour,  drop car off and jump on coach, full of joy, get to the Hilda, have a few pints and go to the match.
Get on coach disappointed and down. Wait till next week.

That’s pretty obvious Haf and has been talked about to death mate. We don’t want to turn every thread into a board bash. Even if it is 100% justified.

I’m talking about the player himself in isolation as I don’t know if he will ever be back to normal. Talent wise I like the player and would love him to just become fit and healthy again.
But I’m not sure if it’s psychological with him or not.

But you are stating that you are only just realising the negative impact his lack of fitness is having on the team.  It’s been evident for ages and we plugged that with Richarlison who having been sold left us with no one viable,
This complete lack of organisation and  accountability has pretty much put us favourites to be 3rd team to go down.

Same.  Leeds may give up goals but they also score them. They have 26 goals this season compared to our 15. Rodrigo does have 10 of their goals and looks to be missing the game which might be a positive for us / levels out the goals for.  They did bring in Rutter who has yet to score in the PL which means is bang on to score against us just like Gakpo.  Also Gnoto looks like a handful.  Hoping we shut them down though.  Arsenal are a much better side and we shut them down so...
Also Leeds has loads of energy and legs so it will give Dyche a headache on whether or not to stick with the midfield three of Gana, Onana, and Doucs as I see many above saying we should drop one in favor of a more attacking lineup.
Also do we stick with 4-5-1?  It is a lot to ask Simms play up top all alone.  In such a crucial game where we absolutely need 3 points do you put that pressure on him?  Whichever way Dyche does go, I just hope they have been working on the attack in training this week. Need to sort how to get the best out of what we have vs trying to get anyone to fill the void left by DCL.
In summary: What Haf said: I’m dreading this game.  Absolutely dreading it.

Leeds have conceded 38 goals this season we have conceded 30 so on paper we have the better defence, then you look at goals scored and Leeds have 28 and us 16, and you start to think fuck me they are probably slight favourites to win this, with a draw being the likely outcome, which is not good enough for us. From watching the last two games the only thing that I can see winning us this game is set plays from corners, but the problem being now Leeds will have seen the same thing and will be working hard in training to nullify that threat. I'll be honest I'm shitting myself about the next two games, we need all 6 points 2,3 or 4 won't be good enough, but how we can them I honestly don't know when we are so poor up front.

This thought crossed my mind towards the end of the match. And sure, two weeks ago, 3 points, you take that. But I agree with what Haf says above. The performance tonight shows that the Arsenal game might well have been a one off rather than a sign of things turning around.

It’s a running and passing game.  We’ve little pace and too frequently cannot make basic passes of intermediate length.
Much more discouraging, we lack any semblance whatsoever, collectively and therefore for the most part individually, of the emotional attribute I most value in sports: relentlessness.
We are the opposite of relentless.  Call it relentless-less.  We are too frequently a lethargic mental or physical mistake away from just giving away a goal or failing to pounce on an opportunity to score a goal.
Maybe we’ll stay up.  Need 10 points from our next 5 matches, including 3 at Goodison and away to Forest.
