Ross Barkley

Recommended Posts

I'm disappointed that I'm not disappointed that it looks like he'll be gone in the summer . He's a local lad with all the ability in the world so I should be gutted but, honestly? I really don't care, he hasn't lived up to his billing. Maybe he will elsewhere but like every player that leaves us, I hope he falls flat on his face and achieves the square root of fuck all.

Yeah, it's weird with Barkley. He obviously has great technique and the potential is still there, but he hasn't really progressed. He's played so many games for us too, so the "needing experience" excuse is starting to wane a bit. He's still young though, and most players don't hit their peak until later, but then you have players like Eriksen, Hazard, and others, who have been kicking on since a younger age.

I honestly don't understand why he wants to leave? We are his level it's up to him to propel us further. Again comments from Koeman tonight point me toward Koeman not wanting him. He said we're looking for players in his position so if he stays there'll be more competition. That to me says Ross isn't guaranteed a place in the side.

And rightfully so. He shouldn't be guaranteed a spot in the side. He's the best we have at the moment but that level isn't high enough if we want CL football.

No one should be guaranteed a place in the side. If Ross is scared of that then Everton is not the place for him, playing PL football is not for him either really.

Koeman also said we don't offer contracts to players that we do not want here, so he does want him.

I was told at the Watford game that it was all done to Spurs. Who knows though!

In the gossip this morning spurs are looking at Sygurdson because he is the cheaper and better option. Pochetino thinks EFC are asking too much for him.

Why would he go there again after his nightmare stint last time?

Agree with this, Spurs would have to offer him a first team place for him to go back, that's why he left the last time. They never actually wanted to sell him to Swansea, Sygurdson just got fed up of sitting on the bench.

Why Pad? He's an assist machine which he's proven over the last few years he chips in with goals can create from very little is a fantastic dead ball specialist and covers an immense amount of ground

A proven player in a position we've been lacking, no brained for me

I pretty much agree with Rom on Barkley.

I won't be overly sad to see him go, he hasn't hit the notes I thought he would, and we still hope to see the same things we've been talking about for the last 4 years. But at the same time, it'll be disappointing because we all want him to be that fantasy player. Local lad, Evertonian, leads us onto great things and wins cups with us. Comic book stuff.

We have to seperate reality and fantasy.

He hasn't hit those dizzy heights and this was a key season for him to push on. He hasn't been able to.

But I'm not sure where he expects to go next. I can't see him dislodging anyone at any of the clubs above us.

It's upto him really.

I dunno Paul. For starters he flopped at Spurs, is he a big fish in a small pond type of player? We will expect a lot more from him, look at Williams, Swans fans thought he was superb yet he's average at best for us. The fact he's not keen to move to a team who are in Europe and will be making a push at the top 6 next season and would prefer to stay in a relegation threatened team or at best a mid table ide worries me as well. Does he not have the balls to progress.

You could be right it's hard to rule that out (big fish small pond) but personally I think he wasn't given the opportunity at Spurs and I'm not a 100% but wasn't he played out of position?

I'd still love him here though at the right price

I've been for it all along but the fact he wants to stay at Swansea worries me slightly. I can't get my head around why he wouldn't want to join a team playing in Europe who will be challenging the top 6 next season to stay in a relegation battle. It's not even the fact it's us he's rejecting I'd feel the same no matter who the club in our position were.

I don't think he's the type to publicly state he wants to leave he could just be saying what wants to be heard when asked

I don't think he'll be a Swansea player next season if it's here then great if not then I hope we bring in someone of a similar calibre or better

Koeman is doing his upmost to upset the player in the public eye. He can say he wants him all he wants. His behaviour is saying otherwise.

Interesting isn't it.... is it not similar to the niasse fiasco in a way?

I don't think so.

I think Koeman is keen to get his targets in asap. I think Koeman wants to know who he has to play with, remember our season will start in mid July. He doesn't want to fanny around until August 31st.

Barkley has a contract offer. He hasn't signed it. Has maybe made small noises that he is unsure whether he will stay. Koeman just wants to know asap so we can get on with either selling him or preparing for the next phase with him.

I think it's totally upto Barkley.

He made it blatantly obvious he didn't want Niasse. But I'm sure Koemans not thick enough to upset a large majority of fans by declaring he "personally" doesn't want him.

I don't think Koeman would give a shit who he upset. If he did he wouldn't have said half the things he already has that has upset Everton fans.
