The reef / laurel design for me is cheesy, and is available on just about every free vector site available, hence why some lads have used it.

The old designs of our crests, for me, have zilch to do with our club. St Lukes church has everything to do with our club yet we want to stick with a design just because Kelly designed it? Theo Kelly was just a manager like the rest of them, so not sure why his design should be honoured. It would be different had it been there since 1878 but the club was already 60 years old before Kelly came about, and he was disliked by all the players at the time too.

I've been tinkering over the past week or so, and probably have a few hundred images of various concepts.

I've looked at including the the usual components, and I've also mixed those components with some new ideas, including a totally fresh design on the badge, incorporating St Lukes church, and the river Mersey, which for me, are worth considering. I've also designed a way to bring lots of ideas together, without going over the top.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

So I spend a week working on them and everybody treats me like I'm invisible? Gee thanks.

Too much to take in maybe Avin? If you'd have posted one or two pics you may have got more feedback :).

Personally I'd love to see the original 1920 EFC logo incorporated somehow, I love it (I have this shirt)...

But I appreciate I'm probably in a minority in this.

Most of your artwork is excellent as always. Too many colours for my liking. Id like us to keep the blue. The yellow in the new crest is the only bit that lets it down slightly. Should have been white.

The one with just the tower is the most interesting one of your designs.

Feedback: (Do not feel insulted these are honest opinions)

1. looks like a cheapo lidle brand for choccies

2. not bad unsure on the Everton 'ribbon' across the tower but not too bad.

3. Looks like WBA copy.

4. Allah be praised? No just NO.

5. same feeling as for 1. (above)

6/7. Not to bothered as there are a lot to look at there.

8. No shield, no laurels no thanks.

Good you made the effort though mate, better than I could have done too.

The tower, especially with that 'band' around it, has to go, for me. It bears no resemblance to how it actually is and, living outside the city for a considerable number of years now I'm tired of explaining it isn't a helter skelter and then having to explain what a bridewell is/was. Latest incidence of this was Tuesday this week - some who ask are taking the piss (so would I if I wasn't Everton) but most genuinely think it's a helter skelter. Closest image to how the tower actually looks, today, is on the latest badge, which has caused all this stink. The tower is on there because it's in Everton. We may as well have the flats on Netherfield Road on there or a modified image of below, which was also on Netherfield Road and incorporates L Barker's general store (sold Toffees!?) but this is unworkable for the modern or any other day.

NRoad-1.jpg

I really like the church idea. It's more Everton than any tower will ever be. I can't copy any of the images you posted above but if you click on the 4th one down (incorporating yellow & blue church) and then look at the 4th one down to the right of the main image when it opens (blue & white only, incorporates church, Everton FC in middle, whole thing looks like blue & white stripes). This is a cracker, to me. No wreaths, no tower, no scrolls, just straightforward and very modern. I would vote for that if it was up for choice on the website and I would buy something with that on if it won.

For what it's worth my away shirt arrived yesterday and the badge is fine as I'm not going to be asked why I've got a helter skelter on my football shirt!

2nd on down for me is my Fav Av and one of the best ones I've seen.

I didn't purposefully ignore you, didn't read what you'd written, just looked at the pics; didn't know you wanted feedback :/

Also, don't think we could/would lose the tower now. Too big of an identity/brand especially now a lot of foreigners are getting into the wonderful world of premier league football....I'm looking at you USA

Now that's more like it. If folk don't give feedback, you don't get further inspiration and it all goes flat.

I did a lot of research recently into our history, and it's only my opinion, but Kelly's design of the badge had zilch to do with our club. We have never played in Everton in our lives, so not really sure why we were named as such, but to then associate further with the village is a bit bemusing.

Meanwhile, we have a big church on our corner that gets ignored, as does anything else from Walton, such as the old zoo for example.

My version of the tower was intended to appease both fans and club, like a half way measure. It would be easy to rule it out altogether. It's important to remember that artwork is a bit like a caricature in that you have to look at something and decide what is a defining feature. You can't put a photograph inside a shield, as although it is exact, it just doesn't work. I thought the tower the club used was the best tower so far, and came to this conclusion after designing different ones myself, only to never be quite happy about them.

So I decided to use the silhouette of St Lukes church, and sit the tower inside, so it then had a nod to both. With the laurels, I figured they just didn't work in terms of reproduction, so I used 9 stars, to represent 9 titles, and formed them into the shape of a laurel, to give a little nod to both our achievements and our previous badges. You can see it on one of the side panels.

To ignore such a famous river as the Mersey, is just asking for Liverpool to claim it, so why not claim it first?

Colours, crosses, laurels etc, are all interchangeable. What I tried to do was find something that worked. The badges above with laurels etc may look cute, but they don't work. As soon as the logo goes onto something small, all detail is lost, hence why I've kept things bold and without effects in most.

The blue and white was initially also a nod to our first kit, not just the Mersey, so it was 2 birds with one stone etc. The ribbon across the tower was a way to get the old features back into a badge, and still make it work commercially. It's not the silly band that we've had on previous badges.

For example:

golden-shield-psd_60-1011.jpg

I look at it more of a salt and pepper pot opportunity than a helter skelter etc.

Wouldn't want a church anywhere near our badge. The club clearly want to bring the brand to more people, well using a church would only segregate in my opinion. I was christened a Catholic, but I'm now more Atheist, if I was a strong Catholic I don't think I'd be too happy having a church from the other side on my clubs badge. If I was a Muslim, I don't think I'd be too happy, if I was "insert any other religion here" I wouldn't be happy.

It may be part of the history of the club and Goodison Park, but I for one don't relate to it. I was always more likely to end up in the bride well than the church anyway.

On a few other points, it would be extremely hard to incorporate a river onto a badge that needs to be easily replicated .

Any new badge that has the tower should, in my opinion, use the tower from this seasons badge. As stated already it is the most accurate version.

Why does the tower have to be accurate? The thin version looks better, it's inspired by Rupert's tower it doesn't have to look exactly the same, we can use a little artistic licence because ultimately the badge should be appealing rather than factually accurate see Man City (not that I'd want to go to their extreme).

I agree with this. There's a trend nowadays for cartoonish rendering of realistic looking things in logos, crests etc. But who knows when that will go out of date? We can have a cartoony looking realistic tower or a realistic looking cartoony tower, or a cartoony looking cartoony tower. What matters is what looks best, and I think that's the thin tower with the stairs. Realistic or not, the fat tower is just ugly to me.

Good efforts Av, I'll be honest the whole experience (clubs doing) has left me apathetic to the redesign.

It's a bit like someone has done a big giant skid mark down your living room carpet that you love, then saying oops soz about that, here's a cheque, go find another. In the meantime you have to look at this big stain.

Just kinda want my old carpet back.

I actually think the club has a bit of an identity crisis that makes a re-design so difficult.

If we look at Hull's re-branding as Hull City Tigers, let's imagine we lived in a world where all teams adopted the US way of having club names - what would Everton be?

Let's look at the other prem clubs:

Manchester Devils (United)

Chelsea Lions

Tottenham Spurs

Arsenal Gunners

Manchester Citizens (City)

Liverpool Liverbirds (though I think the Liverpool Redshites has a ring to it ;P)

What recognizable US-inspired name would we have?

Everton Toffees?

The main DEFINING things about us is BLUE, TOFFEES, TOWER, NSNO.

It's a difficult job for the design team to re-brand us. We need it to stay relevant & current.

Whatever the design we will definitely be keeping everything within one shape e.g. the shield and I think it's definitely going to be the tower or something completely NEW.

Either way, no matter what the badge looks like - it's our team, our club & we need to get behind this new badge without complaint so we can focus on the team :)

Let's destroy WBA today.

IMWT - COYB!

Probably Dogs of War or Black Watch, however the older fans and current style would suit the past School of Science however that would be harder to commercialise on a badge. American franchise-wise we'd probably be Everton Eagles.
