seve
Because people know it'll be Howard that plays, so what's the point in putting a line-up with Robles as the goalie when they know it'll be Howard? what a defeatist attitude at least let people know who you would like in the team regardless of who RM picks otherwise you are only trying to predict what he chooses not what you want. Matt
what a defeatist attitude at least let people know who you would like in the team regardless of who RM picks otherwise you are only trying to predict what he chooses not what you want. Probably got something to do with the fact he's one of our most experienced players, especially when it comes to European football. I wanted Robles to keep his place but he hasn't, and Howard had an impressive game at Chelsea. But I don't want to chop and change the back 4 more than necessary. Hafnia
Whichever way you look at it Robles has elevated his standing in the team, if Tim has a poor game he knows quite well that Martinez can now rely on Robles - before his injury Tims place was assured, he knows he has a young buck chomping at his heels. He has come back for one game and was excellent. We have competition for the number 1 spot - we never had that before. Romey 1878
81 mins of game time over an unlikely/brief sub appearance? Makes more sense to me, all things considered It makes more sense that if we have need of a goal we could call on an experienced striker and not Courtney Duffus :dont know: . Matt
It makes more sense that if we have need of a goal we could call on an experienced striker and not Courtney Duffus :dont know: .i agree, but with Robertos subs, neither Kone or Duffus would get on. Either Lukaku plays 90 mins regardless of his form or he goes off with 5-10mins left and Naismith gets push up top.
veedublin
If the rumors are true that Howard is MLS bound, then do we have to assume that Robles is the keeper for the future? (Or maybe we can pick up Lloris? ) So, if you're RM, how do you manage TH to get the most exposure and make sure his stock rises?
Paddock
There is more chance of me signing for Everton than there is of Lloris joining. Why on earth would he leave Tottenham for us? If he goes it'll be to a cl team.

veedublin
If De Gea leaves for Madrid then I would fully expect Lloris to be heading to Man U. yah, this is what I read, too. (And it's really the only reason I made the comment I did.) Anyway, I know it wouldn't be Everton, but he'd be a great replacement for Howard. Matt
If De Gea leaves for Madrid then I would fully expect Lloris to be heading to Man U.Lloris is a pipe dream, and somewhat overrated in my eyes. Better than Howard and Robles probably, but not 20m better. And that's the whole point; unless we spend mega money were not going to improve on either of them

In many of the Tottenham matches I've watched, Lloris has been brilliant -- but who's the best, would you say?

He's great at running off his line and sweeping but other than that he's nothing special at all. Matt
chalkpie
Serious question: Who's the best keeper in the EPL? In many of the Tottenham matches I've watched, Lloris has been brilliant -- but who's the best, would you say? Courtois for my money. He's 22 and hasn't even peaked yet, and Chelsea is by far the best EPL team at the moment, as much as it fucking pains me to say that. He is one of the reasons they are at the top IMO. Matt
Courtois or De Gea. I'd say De Gea but only because this is Courtois debut season Romey 1878
Vranny
Courtois or De Gea. I'd say De Gea but only because this is Courtois debut season I'd say those 2 are clearly ahead of the rest in the PL, though my opinion of Courtois is mostly based on his Atletico days. They probably rank in the best 3-4 goalkeepers in the world currently. Matt

Cornish Steve
Wasnt there a rumour this week that we're looking at Caballero? Probably as a backup since he's 33. Anyway, pleased to see Courtney Duffus in the traveling team. Another youngster about to push his way into the team?

MikeO
TEAM NEWS: Everton: Howard, Jagielka, Oviedo, Lukaku, Mirallas, Naismith, McCarthy, Barry, Coleman, Barkley, Stones Subs: Joel, Gibson, Besic, Atsu, Alcaraz, Garbutt, C.Duffus. markiediow
Naismith or Barkley as a wide man again. Wish we would play wide player out wide rather than a central player.

Brett Angel
Not Naismith, he's been absolutely shite the past few games..
Btay
The only other option I can see would have been grabs in for either Naisy/Ross and push Oviedo up, I can understand him going with this team with it being the first game away.. Still a strong strong side, should get the draw atleast
Elston Gunnn
I was hoping to see Atsu on right, Naismith on bench, as he could come on at 60 minutes for any of Atsu, Mirallas, Barkley, Lukaku. Garbutt, yes, maybe on for Mirallas, Oviedo moving up. If we get the lead, maybe we'll see either Besic or Gibson on for one of the 4 front players. MikeO
Hmmm. Just hearing about their recent record at home in Europe I'd probably take a defeat by the odd goal. Worried . Don't want another Bucharest.
