FairWooney got a reaction from Matt in Alex Scott
Exciting one for me this.
As a Guernseyman and former Guernsey FC season ticket holder it's not only great to see our players making it on to the big stage but even better when they can join Everton.
Not only that but he's I know his parents who are cousins of my step dad (awaits inbred Islander jokes about us all being related!).
Sadly I've not actually seen him play as I left Guernsey before he started playing for them but have followed his progress and he's really grown quickly at Bristol City, joining at a young age and becoming a regular in the team loved by the fans so quickly.
He was travelling to Southampton academy every weekend from Guernsey when he was still at Primary school and I think until he was about 14/15.
Seems a lot of interest in him, Spurs, West Ham and Leicester all interested at the moment. Hopefully Lampy and the new DOF can convince him Everton is the place to be.
Got all fingers crossed that the lad joins

FairWooney got a reaction from Matt in Ashley Cole
What have any of the last 22 posts got to do with Ashley Cole?
Mods not bothering anymore? Just because Ashley Cole is a defensive coach shouldn't result in a long rambling thread between a group of defensive experts criticising one of our centre backs.
There's a thread for Michael Keane already.

It says you joined in 2004... you must surely know this place better than that by now!
Rule #1 of Toffeetalk is don't expect the name of the thread to bear any resemblance to the content of the current conversation.
In case anyone is wondering, Rule #2 is don't believe anything @Palfy says.

Gordon also though I'll give an unpopular opinion that Coleman had a good game. I know not many like to say anything positive about our captain but he put in a plenty of good challenges, got forward well and rarely gave the ball away (had more touches than anyone bar Allan).
He also was available in acres of space loads of times in the second half and no one would pass to him!

The first of the two games this week didn't go well, a pretty poor performance and I felt that Newcastle buoyed by the big home support were beating us to 50/50's and generally looking that bit more up for it than us. We seemed so much more sloppy than at the weekend though that may also be down to the extra pressure that Newcastle were putting on us all over the pitch compared to Brentford.
I'm going to assume that Gray and Mina will both be out. Crossing fingers that Mykolenko will be back.
Pickford
Coleman/Patterson Keane Holgate Mykolenko
Allan VDB
Dele
Gordon DCL Richarlison
I think we need to move to a 4-3-3 this week, partly because of the defensive injuries and partly because it will better allow us to bring in the new midfield players.
DCL should hopefully be fit enough to start now, and with Gray out this works out fine with Richarlison moving back over to the wing.
Dele didn't impress me much last night but neither did Gomes so it would be good to work on getting VDB and Dele working and getting fully integrated into the team and match fit.
It would be good to see Patterson finally get a game but so far it seems neither Ferguson or Lampard has deemed him ready to take Coleman's place in either league or FA cup.
If Mykolenko isn't fit I'm struggling for who should play there, Coleman struggled at first when he played there a few weeks ago but settled in ok defensively in the end and kenny came on there the other day so I'd probably rather one of those plays there than Townsend try to fit in. Against Ayling and Raphina we need someone who can do a good defensive job.

He has a 2 year consultancy role with them from what I'd heard when he joined which starts in the summer.

serious strength in attack up that left wing
Not so sure about the defending though!
Looks like Lampard wanted to go with an unchanged (apart from Mina in for Godfrey) team but denied by Mykolenko

FairWooney got a reaction from MC11 in Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I stand by this one after watching today.
When DCL is fully fit he can get back in but right now I like Gray, Richarlison and Gordon, all press really well and put in a lot of work.
Just wish Gray and Richarlison would work together better!

FairWooney got a reaction from badaids in Man of the Match v Brentford (FA Cup 4th round)
good performance all round but i'll go with the early votes, Gomes put in a good performance, looked to drive forward and look for balls forward all the time. Didn't always come off but always looking. Hopefully keeps that up and challenges for a spot in the team.
Gordon, Gray and Richarlison all did a good job in attack, good pressing and pressure on their defence all the time.
Defensively we still looked a bit ropey but lots of positives to be had. We looked decent on the ball, had a good bit of purpose in attack and unusually scored off of 2 set pieces!
Much more enjoyable watch us working the ball around than constantly sitting back like under Rafa.

sounds like unlikely to be fit for Newcastle but not certain.
To be honest I was liking the idea of Gray, Richarlison and Gordon leading the attack on Saturday anyway for the pace of attack and that Brentford are decent in the air anyway but DCL is a preference generally.
Though Richarlison isn't an out and out poacher like DCL I think he is more than capable of playing centre forward with 2 attackers like Gordon and Gray to his side and with the support of Ali/VDB behind him. He is well capable of finishing crosses and getting in to good spaces in the box, the only thing i'd say is that he puts in a lot of work chasing and may leave the box empty when you want someone there.

FairWooney got a reaction from nyblue23 in Brentford (H) FA Cup 4th round Sat 5th Feb 15:00
Van De Beek is cup tied by the way, came on as a sub in the 3rd round.
Christian Eriken is a new signing for Brentford, expect he'll be on the bench having not played in a long time. Good to see him back and a good signing for Brentford if he can stay healthy and get back to half the player he was for Spurs

Maybe the board have been super clever, wanted lamps all along, push the Pereira name so when fans erupt and he is pulled appointing Lampard unites fans and in relief and eases pressure on the board !!

FairWooney got a reaction from StevO in Alex Iwobi
was nothing in that and the commentator was going on like it was an awful challenge, he's put his foot past the ball to turn on it and the players come into the side and got caught, no malicious intent at all and just unlucky.
I think a yellow card would have been fairly hard on him let alone a red.
You could see his confusion at the yellow let alone the red!

Interesting that in the press conference Dunc really doesn't put himself forward for the permanent job siting the fact that he doesn't have much experience.
He also says it's his dream to manage Everton one day.
If he believes both of those things then surely it's within his gift to get himself a managerial role somewhere and get a bit of experience so that he can come back.
I like his smile at the words on playing against Stevie G. He's well up for that fight!
