Our under 21's don't sound like they're very good this season :s.

We're lacking in centre mids, because the club has let go/loaned out a lot of players: Baxter, Wallace, Mustafi, Forshaw, Bidwell, and Barkley. Admittedly a lot of these went out on loan, but the loans were spread out.

As well as McAleny and Junior picking up injuries.

Our U21's tend to be a bit younger than the opposition, the results might be bad, but in the long run it should help with their development.

Couldn't agree more. SHould have had a run out, 45 or the full 90. No reasons (we know of) as to why he wasn't.

Given the way the baffling substitutions went, i'm really surprised he didn't play. Duffy, Barkley and Vellios, all should have had a run out come the closing stages of the game, no question.

Next year will be Duff-man's year, I can feel it. Playing more than usual.

Hope moyes doesn't end up stretching that back line to breaking point , Then drop the lad in at the deep end.... saying that, iv no doubt he can handle it now!

But last night was a great chance to give him a confidence boost!

well thats the fear, he may 'have' to throw them in rather than choose to give them the right games. Last night was the right game - big miss.

How is playing him against Cheltenham going to prepare him for the Prem?

Moyes has stated why he chose the team he did, and we won, so we have to respect that. Moyes will have his own ideas about young Shane, and his readiness. It could be that he wanted to give the existing Centerbacks an easy match to sort themselves out.

Even if we play Shane week in week out, he still has no experience at this level, and a loan deal to get him that experience is best. He'd probably be out on loan now if we weren't thin on the ground, so the arrival of one or two more defenders would give him that opportunity.

If we could get comfortable leads on teams he might have been given a few outings, but all of our matches have been tight recently, and the timing hasn't been good.

4-1 up with 30 mins to go is not a suitable time for Duffy, Vellios and Barkley?

Maybe it's not good PL exposure, but it is good FA Cup exposure, which is a competition that EFC competes in every year. Why not give the youngsters more timewhen there is a comfortable lead instead of throwing him at the end of matches like the one at Chelsea where there is loads more pressure?

Sure, Moyes has got his reasons, but I especially don't understand bringing on Hitz when even his future is still uncertain it seems.

Duffy will get his chance if he keeps working hard. He looks a good player, but Moyes will be looking to win something this year, so I really can't see fringe players getting too many opportunities unfortunately. The lad is but 21, so as much as we all want him to get his chance, he has all the time in the world to get where he needs to be.
