Guest Posted February 26, 2014 Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 Good post nikica when jelly came he looked like a goal machine all one touch finishes which was obviously a player high on confidence however I think eventually the premier league shown jelly for what he was, technically average, no pace and like you said an average striker. He will score goals at hull due to him playing in a 4-4-2 and getting rebounds etc and having a partner he can play off. I have posted negative stuff on here about jelly and it's not that I didn't like him I would have loved for him to have gone on and scored goal after goal but he was like AJ. Bailey Posted February 26, 2014 Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 Jelavic was vastly superior to Naismith up here, and he did look shot by the end at Everton. Now, obviously it's far easier to shine in the SPL than the PL, but there's no way Jela was doing himself justice in an Everton shirt, imo. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle - his start made him look better than he was (i.e. like one of the best strikers in the PL) and by the end he looks worse than he is (like one of the worst). In truth, he's a mid-table level striker probably, better than the likes of Hooper (who also moved down to England) who is a lower level striker. Jelavic could probably do better than Hull if he was playing at his best ability, but now he's there I hope he does well. In saying that, I see nothing wrong with Everton selling him, as things simply went stale and he was psychologically shot, as you claim. It's just a shame it reached that stage as I genuinely think he could have offered you more long-term. Naismith is alright but I think it's more a case of better the circumstances being a good fit for him at Everton as compared to Jelavic (Naismith is able to take advantage of the system Martinez is playing, whereas Jelavic's deterioration started under Moyes, so there was no way back). Bailey is one of my favourite posters on here but this is a rare instance where I have to disagree with him - i don't think Naismith is half the player that Jelavic is technically (a proper Jelavic), and not a better finisher. His movement outside the box is probably better though, that is true. Of course, Jelavic must also take some responsibility for his own failings in an Everton shirt. But I definitely don't think he did himself any justice for that last 12-16 months or so. Weirdly if you went back 12 months ago or so I would agree with you (about Jelly and Naismith) but Naismith has really surprised me with how well he can link up the play with his back to goal, playing cute little passes and nice touches. Judging him on his performances out wide, especially last season, I really didnt think he had it in him. Ultimately I think the difference between the two is that Naismith just has that little bit of extra movement that means he can give himself half a yard of space before a challenge comes in from a defender, whereas Jelly quite often seemed to have his defender touch tight and under pressure he kept turning the ball over. What we are seeing now is Naismiths professionalism coming through and his mental attitude. Jelly always reminded me of one of those players you needed to put your arms around and tell him he is great to get anything out of him. I do feel he is better than most are saying though but i also think Naisy is proving a lot of doubters wrong. It just all goes to show that Lacina needs more time and more of a chance before we right him off. Lets face it, most of us have got lucky with the injury, it's not even the same injury but most are being proved right by saying " never buy an injured player " .... it's the gamble, you win some and you lose some. I am hopeful that RM will win 75% of them. If Naisy would have looked a dud this season, again the doubters would be proved right. He has performed to a level we never knew he had so far and his backers are smiling. Football is a fickle game and it's why we debate it every day.... even when we should be preparing for our 15.00 meeting with our boss. So we sort of know his planning now. Get rid of all strike options no matter how bad or good they are. We are Everton and we don't need to score goals. Martinez should never have sold a fit striker and replaced him with an injured one. That's just my view on it. He was also shite by the look of it. The injury Traore singed with was very minor, we've been unlucky if he's now picked up a serious one. Regarding him being shite, I think that's been discussed to death by now haha! I think we'll never know now what he could have done in this league once match fit.
