MC11
Out of all the players, who's got away with a get out of jail free card so far? I'm talking about players who aren't performing but continuously get picked. My choice for the chop: 1.Lukaku 2. Baines 3.Coleman 4.Barry Edited December 27, 2014 by MC11

Cornish Steve
I wouldn't have used the term "for the chop"; instead, I would say who falls into the category of "dead wood" and we should, as a consequence, trade if possible. 1) Gibson 2) Pienaar 3) Barkley 4) Mirallas 5) Osman 6) McAleny 7) Distin 8) Browning The reason Barkley is on the list is due to (i) other teams seems willing to pay a small fortune for him, and (ii) he appears to have let all the praise and glory headlines go to his head. As for Mirallas, (i) he's terribly inconsistent, (ii) he's too much of a prima donna, and (iii) he's proved to be rather fragile. I understand that others disagree, but so be it. markjazzbassist
Dead wood for me is Gibson, pienaar, Howard, Mcgeady, Atsu, Distin. Barry is a good locker room guy and decent bench player and rotation guy, he can stay.
Sideliner
My dead wood bundle is : Sell/give away or retire : Gibson, Hibbert, Osman, Howard,McGeady,Pienaar and Naismith(after his purple patch) Those who need an urgent wake up call: Baines, Coleman, Lukaku,Barkley and Barry have not seen enough of Atsu , our CB's have still got a few miles in them if given the required protection - we then need a playmaker in the middle , a speedy goal scoring right winger, at least one more defensive, tall and fast wingback (both Coleman and Baines are too short to help defending against areal attacks),we can also do with a set piece/ corner specialist and of course a goalkeeper (my choice would be young Smeichel )
duncanmckenzieismagic
I cant believe people actually want Baines and Coleman dropped They aren't as effective this season because teams have long since sussed us out and they know we have no width so can afford to push right up against them leaving no space for either to get forward and attack. If anybody thinks playing Garbutt and Hibbert instead would be more effective then they need to give their heads a wobble Matt, Bailey, Sibdane and 1 other

It's hardly a purple patch, he's been our best option up front for the last year. Goals per minutes since January he is best goal scorer. Problem is the other players you mention we would get little money for. If we could get £20m back for lukaku then use that money to strengthen with new keeper, winger, and a cheaper striker who gives a 1 in 3 return but offers more in our style of play. Cornish Steve
Problem is the other players you mention we would get little money for. Isn't that the best indicator of all that they are not good enough? Even if we received little cash, we'd save on their wages and open up spots for others - academy players or those brought in later. Peter H
Barry, Barkley (right now), Distin and McGeady need dropping a few games.
c1982
Eto'o - was delighted when we signed him but if he's not going to be played in the right position then what's the point? If there's truth in Valencia wanting him then we shouldn't stand in his way. Distin - he makes too many mistakes, we need a new 1st choice CB. McGeady - I've held out and given him time but Martinez clearly doesn't trust him so we should cut our loses and get a better winger (or 2). Newty82
Players who just aren't doing it for me but can...Coleman, Barry, Lukaku. Players who I think we need to be rid of from the squad because of injuries and taking up wages...Pienaar and Gibson. Players who need to show they can do it...McGeady Players who need to show they still have it at this level...Distin, Osman, Howard Waste of space...Atsu
MikeO
Players who need to show they can do it...McGeady Too charitable Newty, he'll never show that he can do "it" because he's just plain championship at best (and I'm talking him up here). Waste of a shirt.

Waste of a shirt. Fair enough. I backed him. But I'm seeing how many times he fails to get past a player. I'm just hoping for something as what I think/thought he can do is what we need at the moment!!!
Romey 1878
The question should be, who doesn't deserve the chop. It'll take a lot less time to answer! Matt
Shukes
Can't believe a few of you have said Baines, he's our only consistent performer. In a team that's being carried...badly. There is one player that is at least putting an average in every match and that's Baines. For me it's Barkley, Lukaku, Mcgeady, Coleman and Barry. They are the ones that need to step up. Bailey
Completely agree, the Baines comments are laughable! I have been a big supporter of Barry but his last half a dozen games dont warrant his position in the team. He is there to set the tone for our performance but he is taking too many touches and getting caught out in defence too. Coleman brings more to the table than Hibbert, but he definitely needs to get his head screwed on. I have lost count of the number of times he has dribbled the ball into touch! McGeady again is a frustrating one because who is going to play wide? We have Mirallas on one wing but thats it, the rest are equally out of form or injured. He frustrates the hell out of me, but he is our best option atm. We definitely need more quality in this position. As soon as we get quality cover in, he should be out of the door. Distin should be gone too. Alcaraz was on a different level to him the other night. Both Alcaraz and Stones want to win the ball early and not give them the opportunity to get the ball down and play but Distin gives them as much space as they want, isnt tracking his runners properly and his distribution is putting us under pressure. The rest get a stay of execution for now.
Matt
despite some poor performances all round, the squad is too thin to be giving anyone the chop. Otherwise, Bailey and Shukes have summed things up perfectly for me
