No leadership at the back.  For that to happen we need an elite centre half.   Any of the centre halves would improve alongside an elite player like koulibaily.

None are good enough to run a defence.

Keane had to go for the header but what on earth was Holgate doing?  A diving header?

Holgate was bang on to clear it if not for keanes flick on. It’s unlucky but it’s poor. If Holgate has shouted his ball then it’s on Keane 100% - if no communication then it’s probably 60/40 holagte/keane

Im not sure it needs an elite centre half, although it would help! You just need someome like Coady who is constantly at his teammates. That isnt me endorsing Coady btw, just someone who will talk others through the game.

Ideally the elite centre half with a voice means that they get 10% extra out of everyone.

Most players who played with Roy Keane said that was one of his biggest strengths.... He made the other 10% better.... An extra man.

Hello Everyone, I’m not what you would call an Everton fan, I’m a Bristol Rovers fan but I was interested in your thoughts on Michael Keane and whether he should be going to the euros this summer. Whenever I have watched Everton he has always been solid and reliable so it would be a yes from me but for those that watch him week in week out I was interested in your thoughts. Surely he is better than Eric Dier and Conor Coady?

Ben Godfrey as well, a bit too soon for him? I have read some threads here and it seems you guys think the world of him already and his versatility would be a bonus, has he been tried in a holding midfield role for you or just full back and centre back?

I'd take both and ditch Maguire personally. Ben has been brilliant this season, his versatility (as you say), his brilliant "ball and man" (but perfectly legal) tackles and incredible forward surges when space open up, he's a real talent. Already know as "God Benfrey" in these parts. Pretty sure he's not been played holding midfield but I'm getting on a bit so the short term memory is a bit suspect. Keane's been solid all season in my view and deserves his place.

My dad was a Rovers fan, actually he was a Spurs fan but started watching Rovers when he move to Somerset in about 1985, so I've always had a soft spot. I lived in Bristol for a short while, my son was born in Southmead hospital.

Your boys a meader, tough as they come from there and would be a natural gashead coming from that part of town. I have always had a soft spot for Everton as they were the first team I ever saw live back in 1986 and Bristol is full of plastic reds who can barely spell anfield let alone ever been there. Support your home town club it’s what keeps grass roots going in my opinion

When you consider that Southgate wants our centre backs to play out from the back and be comfortable 1 v 1, I don't think Keane will be on the plane. It would just expose him.

I'm also not sure Godfrey will make it either. He needs to learn his trade a bit more. He looks like he could be one of the best centre backs in the league for years to come but he is a bit naive and whilst he has played in other positions, when he has, we have barely come out of our half so when you have a squad of 26 you don't need to take players that aren't specialists in their position.

Assuming all are fit, I would expect to see Stones, Maguire, Coady and Mings. Coady will be there for the option of 5 at the back as he is a brilliant organiser and Mings was excellent against us the last couple of weeks playing in a similar way. The other space (if you need 5) is up for grabs. I am not a fan of Dier and I don't think Konsa or Tomori have the experience or potential of Godfrey. I think I would probably take the latter just for tournament experience knowing there is a good chance he will be a part of the starting 11 for the tournaments to come.

We were sweating man city were gonna come in for him last season.

If they were looking at him a couple of seasons ago it would have been as a gamble that they could have improved him, a bit like Rodwell really and he had more going for himself as that age than Holgate, don’t get me wrong he still is a young man and has the potential but he’s not anywhere near Keane’s level of ability whether that be good average or poor, he’s made a couple of standout howlers recently that have really hurt the team at a crucial time of the season, I know mistakes happen but when they are so obviously avoidable you have to question his ability, which I believe at this moment in time makes him our worst CB out of the 4 in the squad.
But it is interesting that you see him quite differently and it won’t just be because City might have been interested him, you obviously have a host of other reasons why you rate him over the others, strange how in somethings we have the same opinions and in others completely different.

Honestly I hope for his sake and ours he has a solid game next up.

Personally though I have little to no faith in him - that kind of mistake is embarrassing in Sunday league and I thought his head went completely after it.

I think he is fragile and if Rafa drops him for Leeds it would do more damage to his confidence.

He’s going to be dropping one of them if Godfrey is ready, and if it’s Keane you are right it’s going to be hard on him. But I would rather see Keane and Godfrey than Holgate and Godfrey.

Lets hope Godfrey and Mina are ready for the next game!

I have a feeling Mina is not in Rafa’s long term plans for a few reasons. 1) he possibly doesn’t rate him that highly 2) he’s constantly picking up injuries and 3) Rafa will see his selling  fee and £140K a week wages as great opportunity to improve the team.

Maybe, I think it is early days as he would have seen more of the others in pre-season.

The injury record is a big problem for him though but there doesnt seem to be any suggestion Rafa is looking to sell him.

Tough decision between playing him or dropping and seems it’s backfired. Simply put - not good enough and we won’t win anything with him in our first 11.

Only heard it on the commentary while driving back. Was he that bad again?
Snods made it sound like he made some goal saving tackles and blocks!

But the feed went out for five mins while they scored so I’m guessing another blunder!

He had fuck all to do all game. Mina handled Bamford. Keane just lost his bearings on the ball and let them in for a 1v1
