StevO
If we all want a number ten, I don't think there are many better!
Romey 1878
Now this would be a signing that would get me excited and not disappointed.

MC11
World class at Chelsea. Hasn't been the same player at United. I'd be over the moon with this though.
Cornish Steve
Strategy, strategy, strategy. He's now 28. There are equally talented younger players.

msloan78
There has to be a big name that starts the trickle. Mata's profile and ability fit that perfectly... Depends if we can tempt him enough to forego any champions league clubs that come in for him. Romey 1878

StevO
Why does it have to be youngsters? Why not buy players at the top of their game? Especially when they have that kind of ability! The reason behind bringing in young players is for resale value, we don't need that to be our mission anymore. How about when City got Yaya Toure? He wasn't young, he was at his peak and he made a big difference.
Lowensda
Zlatan has taken the no 8 jersey at United...formally worn by Juan, Mata.
Paddock
Strategy, strategy, strategy. He's now 28. There are equally talented younger players. Who then Steve, who do you suggest is younger, equally talented, would come to us, fit into our wage structure and we could afford? Mata is a quality player and a massive step up from what we have now, 28 or not he's exactly the type of player we should be tring to sign. Aidan
Looks as if we're just waiting for a fee to be agreed upon. Personal terms are agreed with Mata and his agent.

Aidan
Are you just quoting what you've read or do you know something Aiden? It's from a very credible twitter link. This blokes got a reliable journo on his side but is mainly focused on united. Rekons were interested in Blind too.
EFC-Paul
This one's happening £25/30m I'll be made up once it's official Edited July 2, 2016 by EFC-Paul
StevO
Might sound daft, but if we are signing a player of that quality we need to be showing him with a good squad number. No giving him 25, he would be very important to us, he needs to be 8 or 10 to add a bit to the PR around it.
Lowensda
Sure he'd take 8 after being outed.
StevO
I'd rather him take ten personally, but only because it adds hope that Kone could leave.

Matt
Strategy, strategy, strategy. He's now 28. The reason behind bringing in young players is for resale value, we don't need that to be our mission anymore. How about when City got Yaya Toure? He wasn't young, he was at his peak and he made a big difference. A mix of the two is what we should be looking at if we want to progress. As has been pointed out we've lost a lot of experience over the summer, Barry and Jags aren't going to keep going forever either, so it makes sense to bring in one or two older heads. StevO
If Kone left Rom could be 9 (sorry Haf), Mata 10. Then kick Bryan out of the door so Ross can take his shirt. I put big emphasis on these little things, I know.

Baba
Mata doesn't primarily rely on athleticism, pace or power so his age is of lesser significance. Like Pirlo, there's no reason why Mata couldn't still be doing what he does now with equal effect at 35 years+
mcirony
For what it's worth (and obviously all Sky Bet transfer rumour odds need to be taken with a ton of salt) Mata is now 2/5 to join us. Would be over the moon with this.
Hafnia
The number 9 was supposed to represent a striker of a certain calibre and character who "got" Everton. Recently we have seen Donovan, kone, beattie get that shirt.... a bit of a joke really. Considering it was supposed to be a Carrott to use to motivate Rooney.
