Summer news for 23/24 season - kits/friendlies/fixtures

I don't think any of the young lads really stood out. Warrington clearly has talent but I am not sure he has the intensity or potentially the ability to press like you need to at the top level. Very much like Davies, I feel like he will too often find himself that yard too far away or off the pace.

I certainly didn't see any rising stars coming through the ranks and standing out to suggest they will be staking a claim this season.

You can never really read too much into preseason friendlies but I thought Virginia played well and I would actually have a bit more confidence now that he can step up as the number 2 keeper for next season

Also thought Dobbin looked very bright particularly in the first half

I thought the young lad playing up top did alright against what looked a very physical and fast defender.

All in all we had some really good passages of play and created some chances that I’m hoping with Danjuma we can start to finish off.

We still need to add some depth but we haven’t seen anything like our best 11 yet. I fully expect Dyche to start a stronger team next match and I will judge from that.

I’m glad he is giving time to some of the youngsters to see what we have albeit he has had no other option.

Started out the blocks really well for the first 20-25 minutes didn’t capitalise on our good play and chances, then ran out of ideas and belief, reminiscent of so many of our games last season, not being able to convert chances will be our downfall. Was pleased to see the youngsters get an opportunity I thought they did really well, and kept the ball moving on the ground better than the seniors did, you could see they are being coached in the right way.

So far preseason is telling us what we already know, we have no focal point and zero threat upfront. Thought Dobbin actually made some decent runs that did give us an out all but he was too easily outmuscled by that beast of a number 5 they had last night. Maupay was way too static

We desperately need a CF who can play with his back to goal to bring others in to play and provide that focal point but that’s hardly a new requirement!

No you can't but for the young lads this is their chance to impress. For some it might be their only real chance and I don't think any of them looked like they had enough about them yet.

Dobbin was decent first half but woeful second. I expected him to stand out in the second half for us, but that might have been because he had a hard session in the morning.

I missed the first 20-25 minutes but the highlights looked like we played some decent stuff. I didn't really see a lot after that, bar a chance for Dobbin that McNeil created. The latter was clearly the stand out.

You say we havent seen anywhere near our strongest 11 but I doubt it will be too different to last night as things stand depending on Dom's fitness. Maybe 2 or 3 players to come in?

No sign of Pickford, Doucoure, Gana, Cannom or Dele. Anything to worry about?

Holgate not included hopefully he’s gone this week. Same goes for Gbamin.

would like to see DCL included at the weekend.

Cannon and Dele are injured, and the rest would have been given a breather so they aren't playing 3 games in quick succession.

Read somewhere that Dyche has said that Dom won’t be risked in any friendlies as he is on a recovery program and will most likely miss the first game of the season.

I’ve just read he has been offered to Roma to buy, and apparently Roma would be interested in a year loan with a with a few to buy after loan period. Will be interesting to see if this story runs and if there’s any truth behind it.

No doubt in my mind that that is a load of bollocks.

It was released this morning by 1st football and as you say probably a load of bollocks. But if there turned out to be some proof in this would you be surprised upset or understanding. For me I would be understanding on 2 fronts 1 we haven’t had him on a regular basis for 2 seasons, and 2 is this the beginning of the change that nearly everyone wants to see happen with our style of play.

I would be shocked. It wouldn’t make any sense for Roma to make an offer like that due to his injury record…. Unless they really believed he is going to go on to become a real top level star.

Then if that’s the case, we shouldn’t be anywhere near it as far as a business sense goes. You don't invest until it’s about to break, then sell. That’s absolute business suicide. But then we are Everton haha.

There's no probably about it, there's no chance it's true. I don't know if I'd be surprised, upset or understanding because I don't put any thought into made up nonsense.

As people have said lack of finishing, but no DCL or Danjuma playing (arguable our two best finishers) and the club currently appear to be work hard to bring another striker in. So at the moment as long as we are creating that the main thing the as more clinical finishers yet to step on the pitch.

Dyche seems to be trying our what else he has at his disposal in these first few friendlies - i.e is Dobbin worthy of a place in the squad or another year out on loan. I personally think he needs a 'do or die' period with the first team now.

I am not sure what to take from yesterday's game.

Bolton are a decent technical side who came to attack us and they did that pretty well forcing some good saves out of Virginia. It was noticeable how many chances we created on the counter and how much space we had to play. In particular, Dobbin looked a really good prospect in that scenario, but when the tempo dropped in the second half and the game became more compact, he lost the ball far too often when he shouldn't have.

For a long time I hadn't realised Gomes was playing he was that non-existent which was a bit of a disappointment. It's early in pre-season but I would have expected him to be a bit more prominent. The prospects of him being an upgrade on what we had seen the previous year look slim. The intensity just isn't in his game any more.

I think we will see how well we can attack teams against Stoke at the weekend, as I can't imagine Alex Neil will set his side out in the same way Evatt did at Bolton.

For the stoke game I would expect something closer to our starting 11 for the opening weekend.

             Gana            Onana

?????              Doucs          McNeil

                     Danjuma

????? being Iwobi, Young or Gray.

Positive is there’s already a slight selection headache.

Dobbin won’t be starting & Danjuma should be a massive upgrade on Maupay. I’d sooner see Garner play over Gomes at the moment but have no issue with Gomes here for depth as he is an upgrade over Davies in my opinion.

I agree we need a couple more players in, I’m really excited to see Danjuma come in though.
