Lukaku wasn't a risk, a gamble, or an unknown quantity. He wanted the step up from West Brom and Chelsea wanted shut. His signing was no master stroke, and the club made the £28 million available for a striker that had already bagged how many premierleague goals???

As for the current optimism, it was only a matter of weeks ago that even accounts here were questioning the direction and perceived lack of improvements Koeman had failed to materialise.

Simply put, with the conman removed and a former world class player installed as manager, the players eventually worked themselves out from under the stink the clown had filled the club with and Koeman has shuttled out the rest. Perhaps the professionalism, the honesty and the pragmatic approach has lifted spirits, cleared heads and focused minds and the club as a whole can move forwards and be free of the scar tissue the former manager inflicted upon us all.

As much as I think Martinez is a fraud and ruined us, even I have tongive him credit for Lukaku, regardless of what he and Chelsea wanted he still needed convincing to sign permanent and Martinez deserves credit for that.

One of the few good things he done.

Of course he's in the frame. As people point out, the media seem to hate us doing well.

(Media now Everton are doing well) Koeman is good enough for Barca, manager of the moment > turns Barca down (wishful thinking) > (media response) He's not that good anyway, new Barca manager is much better than previous options (Koeman)

Spot on. Also every former player for Barca is "in the frame" the minute they lose. Just so happens koeman is the best of the lot so they're going with him.

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/02/18/baines-were-playing-the-koeman-way

“What we’ve shown comes from the manager. Of course, it takes time but the team starts to reflect the manager out on the pitch,” said Baines.

You mean it wasn't expected by everyone that we should have instantly been playing the way Koeman wanted? That it might take some time to implement his ideas? What a revelation!

Not having it Rom...he should have had it sorted within 3 months.

(Sarcasm obviously!)

Not many were arguing he shouldn't be given time.

Most were arguing that not much had changed at that point.

You know back when we had been knocked out of both cups and were two points better than the previous season....which was apparently a disaster.

Now he's had more time it looks like we have turned a corner and things are coming together. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

It's a shame we flumped in the cups. We've got to expect better in both next season. It does put a downer on the season so far.

We've just got to look at hunting down the top 6. Not saying we'll do it, but at least it gives the rest of the season some purpose. Something to aim for rather than just getting by until the end of the season in the lonely land of 7th.

Wish West Brom would lose a game or two, comfortable margin behind them but they're a bit close for comfort, and having a great season!

Hopefully we'll put them in their place in a couple of weeks at Goodison.

Great management from Koeman today subbing Barkley right after the second goal when everyone was buzzing and relieved so he got a great ovation.

He looked made up with his applause, do his confidence the wirld of good that.

ive questioned, and still do, some of his man-management decisions (especially the u23 statement yesterday or so), but today he managed the changes perfectly

Yeah definitely.

When I was writing that post I was thinking about WBA and how close they are actually. My step son is a WBA fan. It's kind of gone unnoticed how good they are doing good this season, what with the media bring obsessed with the current top 6.

Tbf about the U23 statement he did say it more in relation to the midfielders and it made perfect sense, because he went on to say how strong we are in midfield for the first-team (and one of those midfielders is someone who came from the U23s). Which is true, meaning it will be more or less impossible for them to get a call-up. No keeper is going to be called up either. Same goes for up front, other than the U23 already promoted in Calvert-Lewin. And Pennington is the defender he sees coming through, as stated in the article.

It sounded bad when I read the title of the article, but it's anything of the sort.

Thanks for that.

I was expecting something a bit bigger, more in depth than that! I don't read too much into what he is saying. We know how Koeman works now...there's nothing he says that the players don't already know. I think he creates hunger.

The youngsters know that we want to move forward. Morgan is the calibre of player we are going after. Up to them to up their game.

Glad they are doing the business in the PL2, that's a tough league.

I was hoping to see Dowell given a chance.
