Romey 1878
If we want him that bad - just pay the money. We know what it's like not to want to sell a player and we demand top dollar when we do so if it's our main target and we want him at all costs- just pay it and get it done. I don't see him making a massive difference on the pitch myself. Decent player but that's about it.
London Blue
I don't see him making a massive difference on the pitch myself. Decent player but that's about it. I think he will add energy and creativity, he is clever with his passing. He also likes to play the ball forward, all round a Koeman type player. He will be a good signing. Just need a CF now. The only way he'll prove valuable to us if we sign a forward in the mould of Giroud because pretty much all of his creativity is from set-pieces. If not then we're going to have a very expensive bit of fluff.
Aidan
It's bold from Swansea. Can see their fans respecting that the club made a valuation for the player and stuck to it. On the flip side though, how frustrated is Gylfi that this bid has been rejected? He said he was happy to stay at the end of the season, but also 'refused' to feature in friendlies for the Swans. Wonder where he stands on the matter. This could be the last time we make the offer for him, potentially leaving Swansea with a disgruntled player on their hands for the sake of £5m - which is a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things £45m is a huge fee and widely thought to be overpriced for the player. Still though, credit to Swansea. They're doing what we did with Rom, looking for the best deal for the club and hoping nobody meets that valuation so they keep one of their best players. markjazzbassist
we've spent the rom money, thinking we've got sacks of it is simply not true. move on please walsh and koeman, i'm done with this rumor.
Paddock
I don't see him making a massive difference on the pitch myself. Decent player but that's about it. I don't think he's worth anywhere near it mate- 20-25 tops but Koeman clearly wants him at all costs, if it's going to happen just get the deal done and get him in. We're clearly not going to stop until we land him.
Newty82
The cheeky bastards! Do they know who we are? We won the FA Cup in '95, the Welsh fuckers. Seriously though...I'm in 2 minds on this. One is that we are about to get our pants pulled down because we made it too obvious that we want the guy. So leave it and walk away. The other is that RK clearly really wants him, so we must get him! I can see why he wants him so bad...he is creative, he can pass, he does a lot of running, and no, it isn't aimless running, he actually makes a good amount of interceptions (so I think RK fancies him to press from the front, as he likes players to do), and no, he isn't just a dead ball specialist. He does a bit from open play but it's tough to see your work pay off in a relegation threatened side. So yeah. I get it. I get quite excited by how much we seem to want him, but am also squirming at that price!!! MikeO and London Blue

DownUnderToff
Absurd price. Go convince Lemar to join instead, younger and (I think) far better.
Romey 1878
Swansea don't put out a different set of players for set-pieces and open play. If those players are good enough to put the ball away from a corner or a free-kick then they can do it when he's teeing them up in general play. But he's just not that creative outside of set-pieces. He's a good player and he has attributes - he covers a lot of ground and his delivery is great, but we're going after him, and some of our fans are treating him, like he's a magician of a midfielder when he's just not. He's not a final piece in a jigsaw, he's just another cog. Straight away you're going to see a big drop in his stats because he wouldn't get all of our free-kicks. Rooney, Sandro, Baines, Mirallas, Barkley (if he stays), will all take some. Then there's the fact we have no one up top who would thrive off him whipping balls into the box. That bit would change if we got someone like Giroud, obviously, but I still would be hard pressed to see why his signing would be a cause for massive celebration. nyblue23 and Lowensda

Peter H
Theres only one reason to let this go now. That is to show other clubs that we dont like to be bullied. If we offered 45 we might aswell offer 50.

Bill
Hoping to announce it on Thursday, £45m plus add ons. Edit..Everton are confident of completing a £45m deal for Swansea's Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, 27, by Thursday. Hafnia
The only way I'm going to be happy about this is if he really does make a big impact. A player costing upwards of £50m at 28/29 years old is a huge outlay. If he's the difference between 5th and 4th then he will be worth it. But is he going to be? Hate to bring lukaku into this but I believe that like lukaku - gylfi at Swansea was the focal point... get him the ball make him the main man and watch his stats bloom. At the new "bigger" clubs they aren't gonna get that lions share... the pond is a bit bigger.
Paddock
The way I see it is we've moaned for years we don't spend money, always skint etc and now we're spending it we're moaning players are too dear ?? I'm made up after thinking about it, not arsed about the price, if it's what the manager wants then fuck it - get him. aaron

barryj
It does seem a lot and I can only see it being only a Barkley replacement therefore we'll only be down the difference. That said Gylfi won't have any sell on value and prob 3 good seasons left in him.
Haiku
Gylfi showed he's not that good at big club being at Tottenham already. That price is huge risk and I think Swansea is the winning party of this deal.

aaron
Actually statistically he didn't do bad at Spurs. Poch didn't want to lose him either and called it "a shame", he was sold by their old technical Director. markjazzbassist

Shukes
The more and more I think about it, the more I'm turning Pad! If we are trying that badly to get him, then the manager must really think he is a missing piece. Let's just trust and see what happens. SpartyBlue
I think his best quality is the one that won't show up as much on the stat sheet. Running all day and pressing high up the pitch will be valuable for the way Koeman wants to play. Him, Gueye, Sandro and Rooney will be a terror for defenders trying to play out from the back. His free kick ability is great but I'm not sure we really need it given that we now have Rooney and Sandro in the team. Certainly I don't think we are buying him with his dead ball skills as the main selling point.
