Newty82
I just don't think there was a GK available without spunking a shit load of cash. Koeman knows this bloke. He has maybe looked at the team and just thought he can get away with him for now, strengthen other areas and in the near future make GK the number 1 priority. Plus he maybe sees something in Robles too.
markjazzbassist
Leno and Horn are German and Cilleson is Dutch; the Netherlands and Germany both emphasize teaching English to kids in school. yes and i learned spanish in school, took 7 years of it. doesn't mean i can use jargon and football technical terminology. i can say hello how are you. that's one position you need to be very vocal and the defense and you have to understand each other. Sibdane
I just think Koeman is comfortable with Stek and is content with him between the sticks. I doubt the language barrier was a reason we didn't go after a keeper. Edited August 10, 2016 by TonkaRoost Quinn31

I doubt the language barrier was a reason we didn't go after a keeper. i'm not saying it's why we didn't go after one (we could have got begovic), i'm saying it Could be a reason we didn't go after top foreign keepers. It took Lloris a few years to get acclimatized (your welcome mike) to the premier league and barking at his defense.

MikeO
ha, i took advanced spanish senior year because it was me and 10 girls in the class, i had my pick Sound reasoning that . I did A-level economics because I fancied the pants of a girl who'd signed up for it (my school was boys only until you hit the sixth form at sixteen when we mixed with the next door girls only); I don't think she so much as looked at me in the six months I lasted before being politely invited to leave by the headmaster . markjazzbassist
Cornish Steve
Personally, I think Joel will have a break-out year and silence his doubters. Stekelenburg will be to him what Williams will be to Mori and Holgate. Matt

Keith B
Stekelenburg was very good today. But if Joe Hart is available, I think I'd pull the trigger.

Romey 1878
Definitely still need a goalkeeper. He made some brilliant saves but he will have moments of being a clown.
Paddock
Did anyone see him going mental when we dcored? I'm really starting to like this lad. He made some good stops as well. Koeman could have unearthed a little gem here for next to nothing you know.
Newty82
He does look a very steady keeper. Like Gana, another good recruit that was maybe scorned to begin with. But Koeman does seem keen to recruit another. I think that might be a bit of a neg to Robles.
markjazzbassist
I'm comfortable with him as the number one now. He's earned it. Great job today, great to see him leave the box a few times.
Aidan
Done more than enough to earn that spot. More than happy to see him there this season. Who'd have thought?
EFC-Paul
Done more than enough to earn that spot. More than happy to see him there this season. Who'd have thought? I think he's been abit of a lost gem and afterthought player tbh United Arsenal and others came calling and he went to Fulham and got shafted when Felix McGraph (sp) came in and loaned around He's proving himself to be a much better keeper than I thought or remembered him being
Aidan
Maybe he went to Fulham to start and it all went downhill. Clever from Koeman to see his ability and invest so much faith into him knowing that Everton wouldn't like the idea of him being no.1 at first. Bailey
I agree he was great today. Didn't have loads to do but dealt with potentially difficult and developing situations with ease. Long may it continue.

Finn balor
Yeah I thought he was excellent with crosses. It's been a long time since I've seen that at Goodison he also commanded his six yard box well. You can see the back four trust him
Aidan
Really good on crosses. Most high claims (8) along with Cech. Wasn't used to that last season was we?
pete0
The one-on-one stood out for me. If Howard was still here Arnautovic would have scored. Stekelenburg stayed up and made the goal look small reminiscent of Schmeichel.
Romey 1878
Stekelenburg, one of his signings, is performing so well that he sees little need to borrow Joe Hart. “He is not a third or second[-choice] goalkeeper.” Yep, he's going to be our number one. Showing, once again, that The Red Echo know absolutely fuck all.
Matt
If he performs like he has been, that's fine by me
