StevO
I wouldnt. Mahrez couldn't be arsed to move himself this season. He cant press. It confuses me that people call Vardy a one season wonder, but not Mahrez. He had a worse season than Vardy this term. Sigurdsson was one of the best players in the league last season. He is less of a risk than Mahrez and suits our playing style much, much more. Lets not get blinded on how good Mahrez was 2 seasons ago, because it's likely he will never be that good again. My reasoning is more than just his one good season. He's played in a team that has actually won something He is younger than Gylfi, so more years for the money He has a left foot, which we are missing I like Gylfi, but my gut feeling is that £40m is too much. His stats have been put across by some as world beating, by others as deceiving. I just think it's too much. £25m and I'd be happy with that. Mahrez has played in a team that presses and works hard too, it's not like he just stands watching. Romey 1878 and Matt

markjazzbassist
Moshiri playing this one like a pro. They want too much? No problem we move on we look elsewhere. Now Swansea are realizing they need I sell him to buy and that he's unsettled and wants out and likely can't now be re-integrated. Guess what? Lower your price or we'll just leave you high and dry. Haha. I suspect a leak in the papers to us linked with an Italian player like gylfi and the sale will happen within a day of that.
Hafnia
Must admit I'm pleased how We have played this. They thought they would go ridiculous on demands and somehow squeeze us... now they run the risk of having a disgruntled £40m player. I'm sure he's a top pro and won't rock the boat but he's likely to be somewhat distracted. nutmegwolf203, Quinn31 and markjazzbassist

If he's willing to not join his team on tour because he's not in "the right frame of mind", might he do the same in the future if/when he's an Everton player? I find such attitudes unprofessional myself.

Regardless, Everton is the peak of his level; if he did come here, I don't think anyone else would be tapping him up.

Hafnia
I'd sooner be the club that sticks to the realistic/slightly inflated price of a player and unsettles him rather than being a club that gets mugged off because Swansea want to try and take the piss. If we paid £50m for gylfi then I'm afraid it would represent us getting fleeced. £35m plus Add ons to £40m.... then if not £40m cash straight up is the limit. I agree, but to save face to their fans they'll probably state some undisclosed add ons that may be extremely small. That way we get him for 40m and their fans think they've got over 40m for him. All sides happy.
msloan78
Bored of it now. Good player, but I honestly don't think he's worth paying over the odds for given some of the lads we've signed and the price some other players are quoted as being available for. Happy to move on to other targets.

Yup. I don't see a need for a dead ball specialist in our side. I don't think he's shit. I just don't think he's worth more than £20m, even in today's market. He's worth far more than that to Swansea by being a serviceable creative force and their free kick specialist. Romey 1878
Newty82
It's a bit harsh calling him a one trick pony or whatever. Don't forget he put in more miles last season than any other PL player. The guy clearly runs all day, and with better players around him who he can feed with his passes and link up play, will that not make him a better asset to our team? I'm more keen on him since I realised how much running he does. Then it makes sense as to why Koeman would want him. You look at the players Koeman and Walsh have identified so far, and you have to believe they know exactly what they are doing??? But, yeah, there is a ceiling to his price. JoeQuince
I think running counts. But, running counts only as far as the running is meaningful. Some players have excellent positional discipline and can be much more effective, while logging less miles.

Throw in Gareth Barry or James McCarthy at an inflated price, for example, and it looks like we coughed up the full amount. (Not that I want to lose either of those players, though - just making the point.)
