James McCarthy

Really?

McCarthy offers more going forward. Schneiderlin is the sitter, so I'd want more than a terrier at CM. That said, even just on the defensive side I'd have McCarthy, his positioning is much better. Edited by pete0

In that I understand football more than you?

Yes... in that you come out with some absolute humdingers.

I've always been a huge fan of McCarthy but I'm sorry - he's lost his athleticism. His ability as a footballer isn't great and along with his injuries says to me that he can go.

Nothing close your whopper that Everton will make a loss on Lukaku.

With the money in the game and no Martinez butting in we should be able to get him up and running again. Just need MO'N to fuck off.

Rather than compare him to Gana, I think he will now be surplus because of the emergence of Tom Davies, who can do the running, tacking and offer more going forward. If the offer is right it may be worth letting him go, especially as he's soon keen to play and get injured for the leaping leprechaun on international duty.

I agree with you. a (fully fit) McCarthy is very underrated. He has that Valencia knack of bringing energy (and in his case aggression) to the team in general. His positioning is smart, and he's does all those essential things that mostly go unnoticed.

The big question mark, of course, is fitness. Before he came to Everton, I don't believe he'd really had any major injuries, so the last 3 years must have been so frustrating for him. Can he recover? I really hope he can, but only the doctors and specialists really know that, right?

Been put in the provisional Ireland squad to face Georgia and Serbia. Hasn't even played a game this pre season or season and still getting called up. O'Neill is a gobshite.

McCarthy should be telling O'Neill he is not fit and anywhere near ready to play football though, but i do agree that im not really sure what the Irish think they are playing at when it comes to him, they are going to ruin his career if not careful.

Wonder if he's pulled out as he's being sold?

We can hope. If it was the McCarthy from the first season with us, I'd never sell him. But that's been a long time now and the only time I hear his name is to announce an injury. If someone is daft enough to take a gamble on him, send him on his way

at presser today "he's struggling with his fitness, we expect him to be back in training next week" .  doesn't sound good for james he just can't stay fit.

Ireland have got a World Cup qualifier against Moldova on 6th October so I'm sure he will be fit in time to get injured in that

This is such a shame. For years, he was pretty much injury-free despite playing aggressively and high-energy week after week. Indeed, he had a reputation for being a man of steel with nothing appearing to hurt him. He's had a dreadful run in the last couple of years, though, and right now we could do with his aggression and drive.

Second that. His own fault and that shit house o'neil. When you play about like that with your career you'll get no sympathy from anyone when you ruin it
