Cheap wages long contract = profit if sold. That’s the only reason I can think.

Reality is we should have bought a first team right back 2 seasons ago and Patterson should be pushing said player for the starting spot.

Now we have an ageing RB who struggled a lot in periods last season, potentially a 25 year old home grown lad who has done nothing convince he is premier league let alone alone championship & a young, promising international RB but massively untested in the premier league.

Not good. Would have taken Sidibe on a free over re signing Kenny.

Whilst it can't be disputed that he is an international player, had Patterson played for a half decent country he wouldn't have made the squad.

A back up / squad player who is local and doesn't mind riding the bench for super low wages in theory is not the worst idea given our current dire financial situation but have to feel for all the full backs in our youth set up.  If Kenny resigns, it blocks the pathway.  For example Kyle John is already 21.  What does this mean for him? One year left on his contract and never been out on loan.  Then again maybe it will be easier to sell the youth compared to Kenny who we were unable to move on for any fee at all and is now on a free.

We are a mess is so many places.  Really hoping Thelwell can sort it.  Already pushed Unsworth out but has so much more to do.

More referencing where has gathered experience at a higher level than the Scottish league.

If kenny was Scottish I doubt he would make their squad still.

I can see the logic in it if the wages aren’t daft tbh. Coleman is in the last throws of his career and will hopefully handing over the baton to Patterson as our first choice RB . However he is still untried and Coleman isn’t getting any younger so having another option is not a bad idea IMO

A 3 year contract gives us cover for next season then once Patterson proves himself we sell JJK for a modest fee as opposed to losing him on a free.

Have we got a decent youngster coming through that maybe good enough to use as cover in a year or so.

Im not sure playing competitive games against the likes of Moldova and Israel is something to shout about 🤣

I think you would be surprised by Kenny or moreso how poor Scotland are. Look at the level Tavernier was playing at before he went to Rangers. Then look at the previous right backs or right wing backs and see their level.

It must be so frustrating to be Scotland manager and have two really good left backs and then a void on the right.

Kyle John maybe, hopefully they can get him out on loan in the Championship next season and see what he is all about

Stan Mills (Danny Mills’ son) too - often plays on the wing but talk that he’ll end up as an attacking right back. Supposedly a very good prospect.

He has turned down the contact and is leaving

Ahead of the release of the Premier League retained lists, Everton have taken up the option to extend Asmir Begovic’s deal for a further year – and offered a new contract to fellow goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

Jonjoe Kenny was also offered fresh terms but has decided to move on in pursuit of a new opportunity elsewhere.

Full-back Kenny, who made 50 Premier League appearances, joined Everton aged nine and spent 16 years with the Club, skippering the Under-23s to Premier League 2 glory in 2017.

In professional age groups, Joe Anderson, Jack Barrett, Elijah Campbell, Liam Higgins, Mackenzie Hunt, Einar Iversen, Mathew Mallon, Sean McAllister and Patrick Nash have all been offered new contracts.

The Club is also in negotiations with Lewis Gibson over a new deal.

Everton wishes to thank all departing players for their contribution throughout their time at the Club.

good on him.  At 25 if he wants to make something of his career he needs to go somewhere where he will be first choice.

in England i'd say that would be a top championship team or possibly a newly promoted type EPL side.

Good luck to him, he had his moments and took his chance well when Lampard put him in the team but ultimately not good enough to get a regular place.

Good luck to him. Could've just taken a wage but wants to play, gotta respect that.

True though it means we have a problem to solve at RB. Once Seamus leaves we will have Patterson who is promising but a question mark and now true cover. So either we bring someone in or we continue to just play Holgate or Godfrey out of position which isn’t ideal. If Patterson doesn’t develop then we’d be in a bind there.

That's for next season then I guess, IF Patterson doesn't progress.

Passionate Blue and always tries his hardest so never an issue with commitment, just an issue of his ability (or lack of)

Play elsewhere, will get plenty of games and have a decent career. At 25 should be playing week in, week out.

Didn’t just take the money and waste another 3 (?) years here.
So can’t fault him on that.
