And its basically the team that was always here, no Stekkers, Bolasie, Gana or Valencia.Robles has proved himself along with Mori, Davies and Holgate, will he change them to fit in his own signings of Gana and Schneiderlin, interesting times a head in the next couple of weeks. What Koeman deserves credit for is bringing in the right players to fill the gaps and a change of formation. I've not liked him much so far, but I've got a lot of respect for how he's adapted. If even Macca was fit he would have played ahead of Davies who has been one of our main men. What else could Koeman have done? He hasn't shaped the team with the signings he has made this window. They have been a minimalistic contribution to our wins. He's been forced to make changes and has done accordingly. We've done really well. He tactically played 5 at the back though., which negates 4 at the back. Macca was injured and Davies played against Southampton before Schneiderlin signed, and kept his place over a player who wasn't match fit, because he was in form. Not to mention he has to drop Jagielka who has been one of our worst players this season, who came back from being dropped and was still awful. Many options? What options? Why would he play 1 defensive midfielder? Your theory of playing Barry as a lone sitter almost wants to make me disregard everything you've said so far! Utter lunacy! The question still stands. Play out the back when it works, kick when it doesn't. Hustle the whole match not when it's comfortable or you'll be dropped. Lastly the ability to be flexible and play multiple formations. He's keeping form players in. Missing players may have given others a chance but those players could have still fitted into 4-2-3-1 with Geri on the wing, Mori and Williams at centre back, Cleverley in mid. I expect we'll sign another 2 players before the window closes which will strengthen us further. He probably has gone about establishing what is best for the team in a scattered fashion buy non the less he has. Stek is fit again but robles remains number 1. He gave Cleverley a chance and has got rid, mirallas is now playing and looks in better form. Tom Davies is playing - looks a gem. Holgate is playing. Barry has been dropped at times. Barkley has been dropped and reinstalled - looks great. He can play whatever system or personel he wants to play, he could have played Gibson or Cleverley he doesn't have to play Holgate he could play Jagielka He's dropped Stekls, he's dropped Barry at times, Barkley also and has them all playing better. He could olay a different formation. It has fuck all to do with injuries and the AFCON. If Gana stays he plays him over Barry or so what difference does that make to the side? Steks would have stayed if he didn't get injured. What we can't be sure of, is would these have made any difference? Bailey Posted January 22, 2017 Report Share Posted January 22, 2017 It helps that he has stopped asking Barry to get box to box and that we have stopped lumping the ball up to Lukaku with no support. The players are the same, the set up is different and does stop the issues I mentioned above but it has taken plenty of time to get there, especially as we played in a similar fashion week 1 against Spurs. We got over the line against Palace but it could have been another story had Benteke scored that early chance. We ground it out really well which is a characteristic we have lacked in the last 12-18 months so that is a massive plus but we only just beat relegation fodder so let's see what happens when we have to play a similar team but in slightly better form.
