if the 3 go before 3 come in we'll have fun trying to make 2 teams on Saturday!  I'm available if needed but am older than our only signing

I was going to suggest Mike, Cornish, Bill, and myself as subs for the current back 4, probably not that much more In combined age difference and we don’t want 100k each a week, can’t speak for the other’s but I’d be happy with 10k a week😂

Can I be the one barking instructions? It might make up for my lack of ability if I can appear to blame others.

Alan Myers says we’re currently working on three incomings and three possible outgoings.

Strangest thing I've read in a while.  We're already 6 short of a proper squad and we plan to let 3 more go???  Even if we miraculously brought 3 back in we'd still be 6 short.  Madness.

Pickford/Virginia/Lonergan

Patterson/Coleman/Young

Mykolenko

Tarkowski/Keane/Holgate

Branthwaite/Godfrey

Iwobi/Gray

McNeill

Gueye/ Garner/ Onana/ Gomes/ Gbamin

Doucoure/ Dele

Calvert-Lewin/ Maupay

Add in Warrington, Dobbin and Cannon as players who have played league football and, no doubt, I’ve forgotten someone.

It’s a very poor squad, short on quality but I understand why it’s 3 out and 3 in as adding another 6 players to this squad before it’s trimmed could be a big mistake in itself.

Shockingly, Maupay’s one of our better striking investments in recent years… try ranking these since Lukaku left:

Sandro

Rooney

Tosun

Kean

King

Rondon

Maupay

I’d actually say Kean was our best signing there on the basis that he actually brought money in! We simply can’t survive another season with DCL as our only option!

Proof that we are officially crap at signing strikers?

lets hope this season our luck turns a bit -

- Patterson and Garner cement places in our starting line up,

- DCL simply stays fit for the lion's share of games,

- Dele becomes a player reborn,

- Onana kicks on and becomes more consistent and

- left back position improves simply due to better competition.

I think it is reasonable for any or all these to happen, even half of these happen it makes us instantly a better team. We must be due a bit of good luck!!!

As Rooney scored way more than the others I’d say he was best of the bunch. I’m pretty sure he scored more goals against West Ham in one night than the rest of them scored in their whole time at the club.

If you ask me, it should still be more than three out. Maupay, Holgate, and Gbamin are three givens, but I'd add Gomes to the list. What would we lose? Keep players who, realistically, we expect to play, and bring in only players who, realistically, we expect to play.

100% in Maupay, Holgate, Gbamin and Gomes you’ve got some high wages and not a lot of quality - we’d probably get little in transfer fees but we need the wages off the books. My point about needing to sell first is because of the 90% or whatever of our spend going on wages - it’s far too high and the reason we can’t compete until we get more lucrative deals and financial benefits the new stadium will bring. We don’t have the extra millions we had when we were consistently in Europe and started paying silly wages under Koeman and we don’t have the Russian sponsorship deals which were bridging this. We’ve trimmed loads off the wage bill but we need every high paid 1st team squad player to at least useful! Gbamin on £120k per week and Holgate on £80k is horrendous when you look at players you could bring in on a fraction - we need to bring costs down and the best way to do it is youngsters and rough diamonds from abroad.

The Saudis are certainly going for it with signings - mahrez, Henderson, Fabinho.

I'd read some analysis on how it is working. Essentialisy PIF are giving 4-5 clubs a transfer budget but then restricting each club to a certain number of players in each class bracket to try and keep some sense of parity (2-3 world class players only etc). PIF do the contact and negotiations for all Clubs...the club just gets involved at the very end.

they are trying to target what we would call average players so that the squads are built out - so it's not just a couple of world class players and a bunch of locals.

wonder if they'll take Maupay 😂😂😂

What do players know or not like about us, plenty seem happy to leave behind not many seem happy to come. I’m starting to get a little concerned it’s not long till we entertain Fulham in the first game of the season, and so far like last Jans window we’ve only managed to become as a squad weaker than before the window opened.
