Didn't think he looked disinterested, just not match fit. Showed some good touches, had a decent effort on goal and showed our pedestrian team how to look forward. If he does go I won’t be particularly bothered, but if he stays we will have an upgrade on what left. Kind of passive either way here. I read they wouldn't let him go unless they aquired Dendoncker from Villa on loan which didn't happen. So will he be back on squad? Could be useful as a sub now and then? I’ve no idea whether he’ll be here. But the squad is awfully thin in numbers. Gomes does have strengths: ball control, ball protection, passing. But he’s so slow and thus is a first-half yellow card waiting to happen as opponents glide past him. So don’t start him, ever. But he can help at 65-70 minutes, when opponents tire a bit, thus rendering Gomes only a little, rather than a whole lot, slower. The Everton attack (pardon the exaggeration) can go through him. His "heart" is clear to me, but a serious injury like that plays on your mind even when you feel fully fit. Speaking from experience. Prior to that, it's form. Ups and downs, mostly downs admittedly. Here he found a home & yes his form dipped but that injury was horrific. Seems a genuine good guy & if he can find even 70% of his best self he can contribute here in some part.
