But why do you think the crowd was fired up? They weren't when the team went behind in earlier games. Indeed, I remember being struck by comments of how silent the crowd became. What made the difference this time around? I'd be interested to hear the comments of those in the ground, but I suspect something happened with Unsworth on the bench that didn't happen with Koeman there.

Plus, I would disagree with your comment about Unsworth having zero experience. He actually won the league with his young Everton team, and he's been around these players for years. He played how many games at Goodison? These things count for a lot: He's not naive or wet behind the ears at all.

I understand everyone's affinity towards Unsworth and wanting him to do well. I do too! I remember watching Unsworth every week for years and he obviously loves the club. However,  managing a team at Under 23 level is incomparable to managing a Premier League team. There is no pressure, and playing 100s of games in the Premier League counts for nothing as a manager. Managing and playing are 2 different things. Playing with two wingers away at Leicester with a struggling defence is naive, and the proof was not just in the result, but the performance. Again, I dont want to slag him off because I wouldn't expect him to nail this opportunity as he has no experience. He should be trying his best to get a job in the lower divisions. I don't think he has any right to walk in to a top job yet.

I don’t think he thinks he has a right to either. I think he is working his socks off to try to give himself that chance.

He is unlikely to get the job. But it’s easy to see the difference he has made. Pundits, fans and professionals alike have all noticed and commented on the difference on the pitch. That’s nothing to be sniffed at, and respect is due.

This season is most likely a lost cause in terms of achievements. If we can stay up with unsworth in charge then I say give it to him until the end of the season and get a new manager then. We'll have time to assess all options then rather than be tied into an allardyce type character for the long term when that really isn't what is needed.

The only problem would be the Jan transfer window. I'd say get in a new striker, see what defensive bargains there are out there and make the signings a collective decision between Walsh, unsworth and the board. Big money signings without a permanent manager without a long term plan is never a good idea. Also it gives the current players time to gel and by the end of the season we should be seeing the best out of a bunch of players who are quite frankly ten times as good as they're currently showing.

Just for the record- the crowd wasn’t fired up at all until after we scored. The was not quite but not far off a mini mass exodus when the second went in.

Until that point we were all fearing the worst I think.

the team got us back into it, or rather Niasse did. That’s what got the crowd started which then played its part in getting the team to respond.

Goodison stood up at that moment.

And how stupid/sad do those that took part in it feel now?

I know. Couldn't believe it when I heard reports of that after the game.

With fans and atmosphere it's a chicken and egg type question. But the fans really can make a huge difference. But can't say too much as I don't go enough to be fair (no...not sarcasm!).

I doubt they’re overly arsed the way things are right now- we missed the missed penalty as we were attending a bommy night party so left 5 mins early to beat the crowds. of all the games to go in to 12 minutes of injury time when I’d guaranteed we’d be home for 18:45 already knowing that was an out and out lie :shakingfist:

I just don't understand it really, if you pay to watch and support the team why leave early (maybe I'm just a masochist!) Sunday was th classic example, at least 6 people squeezed out past me after the 2nd Watford goal went in, if we had done that, we would have been thrashed, but a combination of the team getting stuck in and then the crown really getting behind them we got the result which could be the vital kick start we need.

Takes me back ten years (mentioned this before more than once) when I was sat in the main stand and Darren Bent equalised Lescott's goal v Charlton in the last minute. Cue mass exodus and loads of people miss McFadden's stunning winner. If we're four down with ten minutes left then maybe but two down with half an hour left? Insane.

I didn't realise the Royal Family were Everton supporters 😁

As an American, I think he'd be a good fit for our job. Defense was shambolic this qualifying cycle and needs sorting out, and his blood and thunder persona would do well over here.

no way in hell he gets the US job.  It's an american or if it is a foreigner it's a worldie like JK was.  they're not hiring a mid table relegation specialist.  Gulati if re elected will need to make a bang, if it's someone else they'll want to put their stamp on it.  He's neither of those.

Gonna be Tab Ramos, Caleb Porter, peter Vermes, David Wagner, Tata Martino, or someone like that.

Give me Allardyce over any of those bar Martino, though the U.S. doesn't have the players to play the way Martino likes.

MLS hires underwhelming.

Wouldn't like him for Everton, but sadly... he would be a good fit for the USA given our talent pool. I don't think it would benefit Pulisic in any way though (who is our best player).

Yeah, my big concern would be how would he fit Pulisic into that style. It obviously wouldn't affect Pulisic's development, since that happens at the club level, but rather stylistically.
