That would upset the balance of the entire team, particularly the midfield, which has been superb recently. I would prefer to see Coleman (or Holgate) as a RB in a back four but (if Coleman) told not to get too far forward.

                       Pickford

Coleman  Coady  Tarkowski  Mykolenko

                Iwobi  Gueye  Onana

      Gordon  DCL/Maupay  Gray/Mcneil

The problem with Coleman and Mykolenko being our full-backs is that neither one of them adds much to the attack, and we need at least one of them to do that.

I do agree. Perhaps it's time to concentrate on being solid and hard to beat for a few games. Stan Mills is another option of course but I'm not sure how ready he is. He looked solid enough in the pre season games he featured in. Tom Davies has also played RB for us before.

What I am worried about is disrupting the balance of our midfield three. I think any RB solution must leave the midfield unchanged.

As much as I wouldn’t want to see us change to midfield I can see Doucoure coming in and Iwobi to RB.

Doesn’t really matter what we do though it’s not going to be ideal.

Everton defender Nathan Patterson is expected to be out for around four to five weeks with an ankle injury.

The 20-year-old Blues right-back was forced off while on international duty during Scotland’s Nations League win over Ukraine at Hampden Park last Wednesday.

Following a consultation with a specialist in London, Patterson will now undergo treatment under the care of Everton’s medical team at Finch Farm.

Unless Frank does something outside of the box and plays either Mykolenko or Vinagre on the right hand side as opposed to the left, it'll be Coleman coming in for all of the games that Pattinson is set to miss.

I'm comfortable with him returning, and the abuse that is being posted around social media regarding Seamus is quite frankly disgraceful.

Agreed, Coleman will surprise quite a few people he is more than capable of standing in for Patterson, what he might lack in overall fitness he more than makes up in experience and knowledge.

Coleman was past his best 2 years ago as a full back.  When far better right backs like Gary Neville become a fraction of the player they were when legs have gone it really doesn’t hold much hope for Coleman.

I admire his longevity and desire to stay in the game but he is a liability. Great to have found the team clearly but I’d sooner play mills

I’ve never seen Mills play apart from a couple of cameos in preseason so no idea whether or not he is ready tbh but I do know that Coleman has proved his doubters wrong many times before and I’m sure he will do again

Personally I thought Coleman more than played his part in keeping us up last season so I have no worries whatsoever about him stepping in for a few games while Patterson is out

Maybe he will do ok, I hope so.  He did show great tenacity at the end of last season but seemingly made a few glaring errors, the palace game being one.

I recall Peter Reid at the end of his Everton career, not great and sad to see. I hope he somehow rolls back the years.

Given how we’re building from the back, Lampard will go with the least risky option. My guess is that it will be Coleman for 60 minutes and then Vinagre.

Coleman for 60 minutes and then Vinagre? What’s that based on Steve? Not trying to be funny, just genuinely curious.

I think theres a few options we can take but each option has its question marks.

Everything in my heart says Coleman will be fine but my head points out to some of the mistakes he has made prior. Also if his legs have gone even more from last season then I really fear for him.

Vinagre to LB & Myko to rb? Myko doesn’t offer a great deal going forward so him playing as a RB doesn’t concern me, Vinagre is meant to be an attacking fullback but didn’t have a great game in the cup. So it’s begs the question if he would be better than Coleman.

Two experienced defenders. Coleman’s principal weakness appears to be stamina, so ask of him 60 minutes rather than 90. That’s my reasoning.

I get the bit about Coleman, just not why he would bring in Vinagre. He’s a left back, and has played as many games as Coleman in the last few months.

Which mistakes Coleman has made are coming into your head? 😂

Fucked up the first two times the ball came to him but he grew into the game and looked less rusty as it went on.

That's about all I can say about him today.

Definitely thought I was responding to the Coleman thread with this.

Should have realised with TT that you should always check where you are!

I think overall we won’t miss Patterson too much. They are on about the same level for me in this moment in time. Two ships passing in the night as Seamus winds down his career at this level and Nathan ascends. You’d always want to play the kid so he can develop but for this season we have solid cover there. I assume you look for a solid RB in the summer. Obviously this is why we wanted to keep Kenny, though I don’t blame him for declining.
